1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The CE800 B USB KV M Extender with on-b oa rd audio allows access to a computer system from a remote console (USB keyboard and m ouse, monitor, stereo speakers, and microphone).

9 Chapter 2 Hardware Setup Before Y ou Begin Rack Mounting For convenience and fl exibility, the CE800 B can be moun ted on a system rack. To rack mount th e unit do the following: 1. Using the screws provided with the Mount ing Kit, screw the mounting bracket into the bottom of the unit as shown in the diagram bel ow .
CE800 B User Manual 10 2. Screw the bracket into any convenient locatio n on th e rack. Note: The rack screws are not provided. W e recommend that you use M5 x 12 Phillips T ype I cross, recessed type screws.
2. Hardware Setup 11 Inst allation Grounding To prevent damage to your installatio n it is im portant that all devices are properly grounded. 1. Use two grounding wires to ground both uni ts by connecting one end of the wire to the grounding term inal, and the other end of the wire to a suitable grounded object.
CE800 B User Manual 12 4. For increased groundi ng protecti on, us e STP (shielded twisted pair) cable to connect the local and remote units. There are two methods that can be used: a) In addition to the eight paired wires, STP cable also contains a grounding wire.
2. Hardware Setup 13 Setting Up Setting up the USB KVM Extender System is simp ly a matter of plugging in the cables. Refer to the diagrams on th e following pages as you perform the following steps (the diagram numbers correspond to the numb ers of the steps): 1.

17 Chapter 3 Operation Basic Operation Operating Modes The CE800 B USB KVM Extender utili zes three operating modes: Au to, Local, and Remote, as described in the table below: Mode Selection The Operating Mode Selection Switch , located on each unit’s front panel, controls the operating mode of the CE800 B USB K VM Extender sy stem.
CE800 B User Manual 18 Likewise, if the system is in Remote Mode, the Lo cal unit’s selection switch is inactive – the Local operator cannot take over control. The Local selection switch only becomes active after the Remo te sel ection switch is pressed to put the system back into Auto Mode.
3. Operation 19 CE800 BR (Remote Unit) USB Mass Storage Both the CE800 BL and the CE800 BR have a built-in USB port that complies with the USB Mass Storage specificat ion and supports USB Mass Storage compliant flash drives, allowing easy and convenient file transfer.
CE800 B User Manual 20 OSD Operation Overview The CE800 B USB KVM Exten der provides a convenient menu driven On Screen Display (OSD) to handle its config uration parameters. All procedures start from the OSD Main Screen . To pop up the Main Screen: 1.

CE800 B User Manual 24 User Configuration The CE800 B USB KVM Extender supports up to four user accounts in additio n to the administrator. When users in voke th e OSD, they get an OSD Main screen allows them to modify som e of the con fig urat ion settings made by the administrator.
3. Operation 25 Hotkey Setting Mode In addition to the OSD, the administ rat or and users can also use hotkey combinations to configure a number of the CE800 B USB KVM Extender’s working environment param e ters. All Hot key op erations begin by invoking Hotkey Setting Mode (HSM).
CE800 B User Manual 26 Alternate HSM Invocation Keys An alternate set of HSM invocation keys is provided in case the default set conflicts wi th programs running on the computers. To switch to the alternate HSM invocati on set, do the fo llowing: 1. Invoke HSM (see page 25).
3. Operation 27 Enable / Disable Hotkeys In case a conflict occurs with programs running on the computer, you may wish to disable the hotkey function. To disable the hot key function do the following: 1. Invoke HSM (see page 25). 2. Press and release [X] [Enter] .
CE800 B User Manual 28 USB Reset Sometimes the USB keyboard and mouse conn ect ion to the CE800 B needs to be reset. Instead of unplu gging and replugging t hem, a hotkey combinat ion can perform the reset, as follows: 1. Invoke HSM (see page 25). 2. Press and release [F5] .
29 Chapter 4 Keyboard Emulation Mac Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emu late the functions of the Mac keyboard. The emulation mappings are listed in the table below. Note: When using key combinations, press and release the first key (Ctrl), then press and release the activation key .
CE800 B User Manual 30 Sun Keyboard The PC compatible (101/104 key) keyboard can emul ate the fu ncti ons of the Sun keyboard when t he Control key [Ctrl] is used in conjunction with other keys. The corresponding function s are shown in the table below.
31 Chapter 5 The Firmware Upgrade Utility The Windows-based Firmware Upgrade Uti lit y (FWUpg rade.exe) provides a smooth, automated process for u pgrading the KVM switch's firmware. The Utility comes as part of a Firmware Upgrade Package th at is specific for each device.
CE800 B User Manual 32 5. Make sure both units are connected by the Cat 5e cable, then plug in th e Remote unit’ s power adapter . 6. Press and hold the Local unit’ s Sel ection button, then plug in the Local unit’ s power adapter .
5. The Firmware Upgrade Utility 33 S t arting the Upgrade To upgrade your firmware: 1. Run the downloaded Firm ware Upgrade Package file – either by doub le clicking the file icon, o r by openin g a command line and entering the full path to it.

All the devices capable of being upgraded by the package are listed in the Device List panel. 4. As you select a device in the li st, its description ap pears in the Device Description panel.

The Firmware Upgrade Utility 35 Upgrade Succeeded After the upgrade has completed, a screen appears to inform you that the procedure was successful: Click Finish to close the Firmwa re Upgrade Utility. After successfully upgrading the firmware , the switches automatically exit Firmware Upgrade Mode.
