1 Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The CE252 offers local and remote access to your KVM installation. Both (local and remote) KVM extenders support PS/2 consoles and can be located up to 300 m (1000 feet) apart. Y ou can reliabl y manage a large numbe r of computers vi a a KVM switch.

7 Chapter 2 Hardware Setup Rack Mounting For convenience and flexibility, the CE252L and CE252R can be mounted on system racks. To rack mount a unit do th e following: 1. Unscrew either the two front screws or two rear screws from the bottom panel. 2.

2. Hardware Setup 9 Inst allation Grounding To prevent damage to your installatio n it is important that all devices are properly grounded. 1. Use the two grounding wires supplied with this package to ground both units by connecting one en d of the wire to the ground ing terminal, and th e other end of the wire to a suitable grounded object.
CE252 User Manual 10 4. For increased groundi ng protection, us e STP (shielded twisted pair) cable to connect the local and remote units. There are two methods that can be used: a) In addition to the eight paired wires, STP cable also contains a grounding wire.

13 Chapter 3 Operation Access Methods By default, the Remote Console allows you to access comput ers connected to the Local Unit (via the KVM switch). Moreover, the Remote Console offers access to computers connected to the Remo te Unit. For example, an additional computer or KVM switch conn ected to the Remote Unit.
CE252 User Manual 14 Auto Scan Mode (ASM) The Auto Scan feature automatic all y toggles the KVM focus between the Local and Remote Units at reg ular in tervals. As a result, any computers connected to each can be m onitored without user interv ention.
3. Operation 15 Using Gain Controls After installing the CE252 R/L, you can adjust the strength of the video signal (Gain). There are two available Gain controls: Au tomatic and Manual . Select the Aut omatic Gain slide switch on the Remote U nit to let CE252R/L adjust the vid eo signal strengt h.
