Place the handset in the telephone base or char ger when not in use. For optimal performanc e, charge the handset batt ery for at least 16 hours befor e use.

W all mounting r equires a telephone outlet wall mounting plat e with mounting studs that may requir e pr ofessional installation.

Getting started R eplacing a handset Y ou may need to de-regis ter your handset s if: Y ou have twelve r egister ed handsets and need to replac e a unit. -OR- Y ou wish to change the designat ed handset number of your register ed handsets. Y ou must first de-r egister ALL the handsets, and then re-r egister each handset you wish to use.

To end a HOME call: • Press OFF /CLEAR or return the handset to the telephone base or charger. The screen displays the elapsed time as you talk (in hours, minutes and seconds).

29 T elephone operation Handset oper ation Making a CELL ULAR call To make a CELLULAR call: • Enter the telephone number (pre-dial mode), then press CELLULAR . Press DELETE /MUTE or OFF/ CLEAR to make corrections when entering the phone number. To end a CELLULAR call: • Press OFF /CLEAR or return the handset to the telephone base or charger.

33 T elephone operation Options while on calls V olume c ontrol T o adjust the listening volume on a handset: Press DIR / CID to adjust the listening to adjust the listening volume when on a call. Each press of the but ton increases or decr eases the volume level by one increment.
34 T elephone operation Options while on calls Mute The mute function allows you t o turn off the microphone. Y ou can hear the caller, but the caller will not be able to hear you.
35 T elephone operation Options while on calls Hold Y ou can place a HOME or CELL ULAR call on hold. Y ou will hear an alert tone if y ou have not tak en the call off of hold after 14 minut es. Y ou will hear another alert tone 30 seconds lat er . At 15 minutes on hold, the call will automatically disc onnect.
36 T elephone operation �hain dialing This featur e allows you to initiate a dialing sequence from number s stored in the dir ectory , caller ID history or r edial list while you are on a call. This featur e is available only when you ar e making a HOME call.
37 T elephone operation Int er c om Use the intercom feature for conversations between handsets. You can buy additional expansion handsets (model AT&T TL90078) for this telephone base. Up to 12 handsets can be registered to the telephone base. The first nine handsets that you register will be named Handsets 1-9.

46 Directory T o dial, delete or edit entries To dial, delete or edit a directory entry (name and number), the entry must be displayed on the handset. Use the directory review or search (pages 44-45) to display an entry.

Depending on your service subscription, you may see the caller’s number , or the caller’s name and number which are sent by the t elephone company after the first or sec ond ring.

53 Answering system A b o u t t h e a n s w e r i n g s y s t e m Answering sys tem and voicemail Y our telephone has both a digit al answering system and voic email indication. Voic email is offered b y your telephone service pr ovider (fees may apply).
54 Answering system A b o u t t h e a n s w e r i n g s y s t e m The answering system can r ecord up t o 99 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes, and the maximum r ecording time is 14 minutes.
55 Answering system Day & time announcement Before playing each message, the answering system announces the day and time the message was received. If you subscribe to caller ID service from your local telephone company, the time will automatically be set with every incoming call.

Y ou can also select toll sav er , which is explained below . Unless you change it, the answering syst em answers an incoming call aft er four rings.
62 Answering system Answering syst em set up Base ringer You can set the volume to high or low, or turn the base ringer off. Unless you change it, the telephone base ringer volume is set to low.
63 Answering system Answering syst em set up Message alert tone When the message alert tone is set to On , and there is at least one new message, the telephone base will beep every 10 seconds. Unless you change it, the message alert tone is set to off.
64 Answering system Message playback Press PLAY /STOP to listen to the messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins playback. If you have new messages, you will hear only the new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system will play back all the messages (oldest first).
65 Answering system Message playback To delete all old messages You can only delete old (reviewed) messages. New messages must be played before you can delete them. Deleted messages cannot be retrieved again. To delete all old messages: 1. Press DELETE when the telephone is in idle mode.
66 Answering system R ecor ding & playing memos Memos are messages you r ecord y ourself. They are saved, pla yed back and deleted e xactly like incoming messages. Y ou can r ecord a memo as a reminder to y ourself, or lea ve a message for others who use the answering system.
