10 Getting started Install ation options The telephone base is set for desktop use. It is possible to change to wall mounting position by installing the wall mount bracket provided. Wall mounting requir es a telephone outlet wall mounting plate with mounting studs that may require prof essional installation.

Bluetooth 16 Gl oss ar y o f t erm s Below are some terms used in this user’s manual to help you become familiar with using your Bluetooth devices and your new AT&T telephone system. Bluetooth cell phone - Refers to a mobile Bluetooth enabled cellular telephone.

23 Handset settings Handset set tings Visual message waiting (voic email) indicator If you subscribe to a voic email service offered by your local t elephone company, the v oicemail waiting indicator featur e will provide a visual indication when you have new voic email messages.
24 Handset settings Handset set tings Home ar ea code If you dial seven digits to mak e a local call (no area code r equired), progr am your area code into the telephone as the home ar ea code. After setting, if you r eceive a call from within your home area code, the call er ID history will only display the seven digits of the t elephone number.

To end a HOME call: • Press OFF /CLEAR or return the handset to the telephone base or charger. The screen displays the elapsed time as you talk (in hours, minutes and seconds).

27 T elephone operation Handset oper ation Making a CELL ULAR call To make a CELLULAR call: • Enter the telephone number (predial mode), then press CELLULAR . Press DELETE /MUTE or OFF/ CLEAR to make corrections when entering the phone number. To end a CELLULAR call: • Press OFF /CLEAR or return the handset to the telephone base or charger.

31 T elephone operation Options while on calls V olume contr ol T o adjust the listening volume on a handset: Press DIR / CID to adjust the listening to adjust the listening volume when on a call. Each press of the but ton increases or decr eases the volume level by one increment.
32 T elephone operation Options while on calls Mute The mute function allows you t o turn off the microphone. Y ou can hear the caller, but the caller will not be able to hear you.
33 T elephone operation Options while on calls Hold Y ou can place a HOME or CELL ULAR call on hold. Y ou will hear an alert tone if you hav e not taken the call off of hold after 14 minut es. Y ou will hear another alert tone 30 seconds lat er. A t 15 minutes on hold, the call will automatically disc onnect.
34 T elephone operation Chain dialing This featur e allows you to initiate a dialing sequence from number s stored in the direct ory, caller ID history or r edial list while you are on a call. This featur e is available only when you are making a HOME call.
35 T elephone operation Int er com Use the intercom feature for conversations between handsets. You can buy additional expansion handsets (model AT&T TL90078) for this telephone base. Up to 12 handsets can be registered to the telephone base. The first nine handsets that you register will be named Handsets 1-9.

44 Directory T o dial, delete or edit entries To dial, delete or edit a directory entry (name and number), the entry must be displayed on the handset. Use the directory review or search (pages 42-43) to display an entry.
45 Caller ID Caller ID oper ation This product supports caller ID servic es provided by most local telephone servic e companies. Depending on your service subscription, you may see the caller’s number , or the caller’s name and number which are sent by the t elephone company after the first or sec ond ring.

50 Caller ID T o r eview the caller ID hist ory Other options • Press DELETE /MUTE to delete the displayed entry from the caller ID history. • When an entry from the caller ID history is displayed, press and hold DELETE /MUTE to delete all entries from the caller ID history.
51 Answering system A bo ut t he a ns we r i ng s y st em Answering sys tem and voicemail Y our telephone has both a digital answering system and voic email indication. Voicemail is offered b y your telephone service pro vider (fees may apply). Y our telephone’s answering system and voicemail indication ar e independent features.
52 Answering system A bo ut t he a ns we r i ng s y st em The answering system can r ecord up to 99 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes, and the maximum r ecording time is 14 minutes. The actual r ecording time depends on individual message characteristics.
53 Answering system Day & time announcement Before playing each message, the answering system announces the day and time the message was received. If you subscribe to caller ID service from your local telephone company, the time will automatically be set with every incoming call.

56 Answering system Out going announcements Outgoing announcements ar e the messages callers hear when calls ar e answered by the answering system. The telephone has a pr erecorded out going announcement, “ Hello. Please lea ve a message after the t one.
57 Answering system Out going announcements T o delet e your outgoing announcement 1. Press ANNC. Y ou will hear “ Announcement. Press PLA Y or press RECORD ." 2. Press PLA Y /STOP t o begin playback. 3. Press DELETE during playback to delet e your announcement.
58 Answering system NOTE: To adjust the voice prompt volume, press VOLUME . Answering syst em setup You can change the number of rings, telephone base ringer volume, remote access code and message alert tone. 1. When the phone is idle, press SETUP repeatedly to hear the featur e settings.

Y ou can also select toll sav er, which is e xplained below. Unless you change it, the answering syst em answers an incoming call aft er four rings.

61 Answering system Answering syst em setup Message alert tone When the message alert tone is set to On , and there is at least one new message, the telephone base will beep every 10 seconds. Unless you change it, the message alert tone is set to off.
62 Answering system Message playback Press PLAY /STOP to listen to the messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins playback. If you have new messages, you will hear only the new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system will play back all the messages (oldest first).
63 Answering system Message playback To delete all old messages You can only delete old (reviewed) messages. New messages must be played before you can delete them. Deleted messages cannot be retrieved again. To delete all old messages: 1. Press DELETE when the telephone is in idle mode.

66 Answering system R emote ac cess You can access your answering system remotely by dialing your home telephone number from any touch-tone telephone. To remotely access your answering system: 1. Dial your telephone number from any touch- tone telephone.

74 R eplacing a handset Y ou may need to der egist er your handsets if: Y ou have twelve r egistered handsets and need to r eplace a unit. -OR- Y ou wish to change the designated handset number of your r egistered handsets. Y ou must first deregist er ALL the handsets, and then re-regist er each handset you wish to use.

I can not hear any s ound on my t elephon e syst em when on a C ELL ULAR call. • Reset the telephone base. Unplug the unit’s electrical power . Wait for appr oximately 15 sec onds, then plug it back in. • Turn off your c ell phone, then turn it on again.
T r oubleshooting My cordl ess handset isn’t performing normally . • Make sure the power cor d is securely plugged into the telephone base. Plug the unit into a diff erent, working electrical outlet not contr olled by a wall switch. • Move the cordless handset closer t o the telephone base.
T r oubleshooting The batteries will not hold a charge. • If the cordless handset is in the telephone base or charger and the char ge light does not come on, ref er to The charge light is off on page 82 in this T r oubleshooting guide. • Charge the battery in the cor dless handset for at least 16 hours.
T r oubleshooting • Relocate your phone to a higher l ocation. The phone will likely ha ve better rec eption when installed in a high area. • If the other phones in your home are having the same problem, the pr oblem is in your wiring or local service.
T r oubleshooting I hear other calls while using my phone. • Disconnect the telephone base from the t elephone jack, and plug in a different t elephone. If you still hear other calls, the problem is pr obably in your wiring or local service. Call your local t elephone company .
The charge light is off. • Make sure the power and line cor ds are plugged in correctl y and securely . • Unplug the unit’s electrical power. W ait for 15 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow up to one minute f or the cordl ess handset and telephone base to reset.
Incomplete messages. • If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disc onnects the call after four minutes. • If the caller pauses for longer than seven seconds, the system st ops recording and disc onnects the call.
Common cure for electr onic equipment. If the unit does not seem to be responding normall y, try putting the cor dless handset in the telephone base or charger . If it does not seem to r espond, do the following (in the order list ed): • Disconnect the power to the telephone base.
T aking car e of your tel ephone Y our cordless t elephone contains sophisticated electr onic parts, so it must be treated with car e. Avoid r ough treatment. Place the handset down gently . Save the original packing materials t o protect your tel ephone if you ever need to ship it.
