7 Getting started Bat t ery installation and char ging Batt ery charging Once you have inst alled the batt ery , the screen indicates the battery st atus (see the table below). If nec essary , place the handset in the charger t o charge the batt ery. For best performanc e, keep the handset in the charger when not in use.
8 Getting started NOTES: If you are on a call in low bat tery mode, you hear four short beeps every 50 seconds. When you place the handset in the charger , if no battery is installed in that handset, the CHARGE light is off and the screen shows NO BA TTERY .
9 Adding the handset to your telephone base Adding and r egist ering a handset About expansion handset s Befor e using a new TL30100 handset, you must regist er it with the A T&T TL32100/TL32200/TL32300 telephone system (purchased separat ely), the telephone system can ac commodate up to five handsets.
10 Adding the handset to your telephone base T o register a handset to your t elephone base: Make sur e the handset is out of the telephone base or char ger and alternat ely shows 1.Pr ess HS L OC on base 4 sec and 2. Then press # on handset bef ore you begin the registr ation.
11 Adding the handset to your telephone base Y ou can deregister handsets. Y ou may need to der egister your handsets if: Y ou have five regist ered handsets and need t o replac e a handset. -OR- Y ou wish to change the designated handset number of your register ed handsets.
12 Adding the handset to your telephone base T o register the handset(s) to the t elephone base again, follow the registration instructions in R egistering a handset on page 9. NOT E S: If the deregistration pr ocess is not successful, you might need to reset the system and try again.

15 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cor dless handset isn’t performing normall y . Make sur e the power cord is securely plugged int o the telephone base. Plug the power adapter int o a different, working electrical outlet not contr olled by a wall switch.

19 Appendix Do not install this telephone near a micr owave oven or on the same electrical outlet. Y ou may experience decr eased performance while the micr owave oven is operating. If your telephone is plugged in with a modem or sur ge protect or, plug the t elephone (or modem/surge pr otector) into a different l ocation.
20 Appendix Charge the bat tery in the cor dless handset for at least 16 hours. For optimum dail y performance, r eturn the cordless handset to the telephone base or char ger when not in use. Y ou may have too many e xtension tel ephones on your telephone line to all ow all of them to ring simult aneously .
21 Appendix Y our ca ll er mu st be ca lli ng fr om a n a rea th at sup ports call er ID . Both your and your caller’s tel ephone service pr oviders must use caller ID compatible equipment. Make sur e the home area code is set correctl y in the telephone (see Home ar ea code in the TL32100/TL32200/ TL32300 user’s manual).
22 Appendix In a few rar e instances, the USB port on your computer may not have enough power . In these instances, try using a USB hub with its own ext ernal power supply . If you are using a fir ewall, it may prevent access t o your nontraditional tel ephone service.
23 Appendix Maint enance T aking care of y our tel ephone Y our cordless tel ephone contains sophisticat ed electronic parts, so it must be treat ed with care. Avoid r ough treatment. Place the handset down gently . Save the original packing materials t o protect your telephone if you ever need to ship it.
