17 Handset settings Handset set tings Using the featur e menu, you can customize many of the telephone’s settings. 1. Press MENU/ SELE CT when in idle mode (when the phone is not in use) to enter the f eature menu. 2. Use DIR / CID to scroll t o the feature to be changed.

26 T elephone operation Options while on calls Mute The mute function allows you t o turn off the microphone. Y ou can hear the caller, but the call er will not be able to hear you. T o mute the call: • Press DELETE/ MUTE to turn off the microphone.

32 Directory Robert Brown 888-883-2445 About the dir ect ory Shar ed direct ory The directory is st ored in the tel ephone base, and is shared by all handset s. Changes made to the directory on an y one handset will apply to all. NO TE: Only one handset can review the direct ory at a time.

38 Caller ID Caller ID oper ation This product supports caller ID servic es provided by most telephone servic e providers. Depending on your service subscription, you may see the caller’s number , or the caller’s name and number which are sent by the t elephone service pro vider after the first or sec ond ring.

Review the caller ID hist ory to find out who called, to easil y return the call, or to copy the call er’s name and number into your directory .

42 Answering system A b o u t t h e a n s w e r i n g s y s t e m Answering sys tem and voicemail Y our telephone has separ ate indicators f or two different types of v oice messages: those left on its built-in answering system and those l eft at your service pro vider’s voicemail (fees may appl y).
43 Answering system A b o u t t h e a n s w e r i n g s y s t e m Message capacity The answering system can r ecord and st ore up to 99 messages. Each message can be up to four minut es in length. The total stor age capacity for the announcement, messages and memos is appro ximately 14 minutes.
44 Answering system NOTE: If the clock is not set when a message is recorded, the sy stem will announce "Time and day not set" bef ore the message is played. Day & time announcement Befor e playing each message, the answering system announces the da y and time the message was receiv ed.

51 Answering system Answering syst em set up Message alert tone When the message alert tone is set to On , and there is at least one new message, the telephone base will beep every 10 seconds. Unless you change it, the message alert tone is set to off.
52 Answering system Message playback Press PLAY /STOP to listen to the messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins playback. If you have new messages, you will hear only the new messages (oldest first). If there are no new messages, the system will play back all the messages (oldest first).
