7 Getting started W all mount installation The telephone base comes r eady for tabletop use. If you want t o mount your telephone on a wall, use the pr ovided wall mount bracket t o connect with a standard dual-stud t elephone wall mounting plate.

14 T elephone settings Home ar ea code If you dial seven digits to mak e a local call (no area code r equired), enter your area c ode into the telephone as the home area code. When y ou receiv e a call from within your home ar ea code, the caller ID history only displays the seven digits of the telephone number .
15 T elephone settings When the telephone is not in use, pr ess VOL UME on the telephone base to set the ringer v olume level (1-5), or turn the ringer off. A sampl e of the ringer sounds as you adjust the volume. The telephone base announc es, “ Base ringer is off ” when you set the volume to 0.
16 Making, answering and ending a call Making a call T o mak e a call: Press PHONE/ FLASH , then wait for the dial tone. -OR- Press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone, then wait for the dial tone.
17 T elephone operation Answering a call Press any dial pad k ey (known as Any Key Answer) or PHONE/ FLASH . -OR- Press SPEAKER to use the speak erphone. Speak erphone During a call, press SPEAKER to switch between speakerphone and normal handset use.
18 T elephone operation R edial Each handset stores the 20 most r ecently called numbers in the r edial list. T o r eview numbers in the redial list Press REDIAL/ P AUSE in idle mode. Press DIR or CID, or press REDIAL/ P AUSE repeatedl y to scroll thr ough the 20 recently called number s (up to 30 digits each).

21 T elephone operation Options while on calls T emporary t one dialing If you have dial-pulse (r otary) dialing service only , you can temporarily switch from dial-pulse to t ouch-tone dialing during a call. During a call, press T ONE . Buttons pressed a fter this send touch-tone signals.

34 Caller ID How caller ID his tory (call l og) works The telephone stor es caller ID information about the last 50 incoming calls in the telephone base. Each entry may ha ve up to 24 digits for the telephone number and 15 characters f or the name. Entries are stored in r everse chronological or der.

39 Use the answering system menu of a syst em handset to turn on or off the answering system, r ecord your announcement, activat e the call screening, change the number of rings, set the remot e access code and activ ate the message alert tone. Answering on/off Unless you change it, the answering syst em is on and ready t o recor d messages.
40 Answering system settings Announcement The announcement is the greeting call ers hear when calls are answered by the answering system. The telephone has a def ault announcement, “ Hello. Please leave a message after the t one. ” Y ou can use this announcement, or recor d your own announcement.

43 Answering syst em and voicemail About answering sys tem and voic email Y our telephone has separate indicat ors for two different types of voic e messages: those left on its built-in answering s ystem and those left at your service pr ovider’s voicemail (fees may apply).
44 Answering system operation Answering syst em overview V oice pr ompts The system pr ovides voice prompts t o guide you through recor ding announcements and r emote access. Message capacity The answering system can r ecord up to 99 messages, depending on the length of each message.
45 Answering system operation Call inter cept While call screening, you can pr ess PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER on the handset to stop r ecording and speak to the caller .
46 Answering system operation Message playback T o list en to messages Y ou can use either a handset or the telephone base to play messages. If there ar e new messages, the system plays back only the new messages (oldest first). If ther e are no new messages, the syst em plays back all old messages (oldest first).
47 Answering system operation Options during playback When a message is playing, you can adjust the playback v olume, skip, repeat, or delete the message. When messages ar e pl aying on the tel ephone base: Press VOL UME to adjust the message playback volume (1-8).
