1 Intr oduction This quick start guide provides y ou with basic installation and use instructions. A limited set of features ar e described in abbreviated form.
2 P arts checklist Y our telephone package contains the foll owing items. Save your sales receipt and original packaging in the event warranty servic e is necessary.
3 Installation Install the telephone base and char ger as shown below. If you subscribe to high-speed Internet service (DSL - digit al subscriber line) through your telephone line, you must install a DSL filt er on the DSL line.
4 Batt ery installation Install the battery as shown bel ow. IMPORT ANT INFORMA TION: Use only the supplied rechar geable battery or replacement batt ery (model BT166342). To or der, visit our website at www .tel ephones.att.c om , or call 1 (866) 288-4268 .
5 Batt ery charging Once you have inst alled the battery , the screen indicates the battery stat us (see the table below). If necessary, plac e the handset in the telephone base or char ger to charge the battery . For best performance, k eep the handset in the telephone base or charger when not in use.
6 Handset overview INT Press to initiat e an intercom conversation or trans fer a call. REDIAL/P AUSE Press repeat edly to view the last 20 numbers dialed. While entering numbers, press and hold to insert a dialing pause. PHONE/FLASH Pres s to mak e or answer a call.
7 T elephone base overview HANDSET L OCA TOR Press to mak e handsets beep so you can locate them..
8 Menu overview Use the menu to change the telephone set tings. Press MENU/ SELE CT in idle mode (when the handset is not in use) to enter the main menu. Press DIR or CID to scroll until the > is ne xt to the feature you want to select. Press MENU /SELE CT to select or save the indicat ed item.
9 T elephone set tings Use Menu structur e on page 8 to find and set features. Many ar e simple yes/no questions. The following are a f ew examples of common featur es to set. Refer to Handset settings in the on-line user’s manual for det ailed instructions on setting all telephone featur es.
10 Making, answering and ending a call Making a call Press PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER and then dial a telephone number , or predial by first dialing the number and then pressing PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER .

12 Handset locat or Use the handset locator to find misplac ed handsets. T o start the paging tone: Press HANDSET L OCA TOR at the telephone base t o start the paging tone on all handsets for 60 sec onds.
13 Inter com T o mak e and answer an inter com call Y ou can intercom between handsets. Press INT on your handset when not in use. If you have two handsets, your scr een shows CALLING HANDSET X . If you have mor e than two handsets, your screen shows INTERC OM TO: Use the dial pad keys t o select the other handset.
14 Dir ectory Dir ectory overview The directory is st ored in the telephone base, and is shared by all handset s. It stores up to 100 entries. Changes made to the dir ectory on any one handset apply to all. Only one handset can review the dir ectory at a time.
15 T o dial a dir ectory number When you see the desired dir ectory number, pr ess PHONE/ FLASH or SPEAKER . T o edit a dir ectory entry When the desired dir ectory number is on the screen, press MENU /SELECT . Edit the telephone number (page 14). Pr ess MENU /SELECT .
16 Caller ID ov erview This product supports caller ID servic es offered by most telephone service pr oviders. Caller ID allows you to see the name, number , date and time of calls. The availabl e caller ID information will appear aft er the first or second ring.

18 Check that all the telephones connect ed to the same telephone line are hung up. Make sur e to set the dial mode to the correct setting (pulse dialing or t one dialing) for the service in your ar ea (see the DIAL MODE menu on page 8). Eliminate any back ground noise.
19 If the battery is deplet ed, it ma y take appro ximately 30 minut es to char ge the h andset befo re it sh ows L OW BA TTER Y . Ref er to Ba tter y char ging o n page 5 f or details . Y ou may need to purchase a new batt ery. Please re fer to Batt ery installation on page 4.
20 I experienc e poor sound quality when using the speakerphone. For incr eased sound quality while using the speakerphone, place the handset on a flat surface with the dial pad f acing up. When using a speakerphone, contr olling background noise in your envir onment is essential.

22 Electrical power: The telephone base of this c ordless telephone must be connected t o a working electrical outlet which is not contr olled by a wall switch. Calls cannot be made fr om the handset if the telephone base is unplugged, swit ched off or if the electrical power is interrupted .
