Depending on your service , you ma y see the caller’ s number , or the caller’ s name and number . This product can pr ovide information onl y if both you and the caller ar e in areas offering Caller ID service , and if both telephone companies use compatible equipment.

2 Getting Started CID V (volume down) When phone is idle, press CID V to dis- play Caller ID information (see page 31). While entering names or phone numbers, press to delete last character entered. While programming, press to change menu item or value (see page 10).

Getting Started 5 Befor e y ou begin About Caller Identification Caller ID with Call W aiting featur es in this telephone let you see who’ s call- ing befor e you answ er the phone, ev en when you’ re on another call. These featur es requir e ser vices pr ovided by your local telephone compan y .
6 Getting Started T elephone base installation Install the telephone base as shown below . Choose a location within the home: • A wa y fr om any other cor dless (wireless) de vice such as cordless telephones, 802.11 wireless r outer (for example, WiFi).
7 Getting Started Batter y installation & charging After batter y installation, place the cordless handset in the charger and allow to charge for at least 16 hours befor e use. Y ou can k eep the batter y charged by r eturning the cord- less handset to the charger after each use.
8 Getting Started W all mounting The telephone base can be installed on any standar d wall-phone outlet as shown below . Choose a location a wa y fr om electronic equipment such as personal computers, com- puter routers, television sets or micro wa ve o vens.
9 Getting Started Belt clip & optional headset Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. Snap belt clip into notches on side of handset. Rotate and pull to remove. Plug 2.5 mm headset into jack on side of handset (beneath small rubber flap). For hands-fr ee telephone conv ersations, you can use any industry standard 2.
10 T elephone Operation Handset settings Y ou can change settings to program ho w the cordless handset works. Each cordless handset operates as an individual unit. The ringer sound, ringer volume, date/ time and language must be pr ogrammed separately for each cordless handset.
11 T elephone Operation Handset settings Set handset date and time The handset displa ys the date and time when you ar e not using it. Y ou can set the time manually , or y ou can allow it to be set automatically with incoming Caller ID information.
12 T elephone Operation Handset settings Set handset ringer tone This featur e allows you to choose one of 4 ringing tones, (1-4) or turn the ringer off ( 0 ). Use the CID V or ^ DIR button to hear an example of each ringer tone, then press SELECT / TRANSFER to select the one y ou pr e- fer .
13 T elephone Operation Base settings Y ou can change settings to program ho w the telephone base works. Follow the steps belo w to program the telephone base. T o stop at any time, press CLEAR . If the phone rings, pro- gramming stops automatically so y ou can answer the call.
14 T elephone Operation Basic cordless handset operation Making and answ ering calls T o answ er an incoming call, press PHONE/ FLASH (or any k e y except OFF/ CLEAR , CID V or ^ DIR ).
Basic base operation Making and answ ering calls T o answ er a call, lift the corded handset or pr ess SPEAKER . If you ha ve Caller ID service , the caller’ s number and/or name will appear on the displa y screen after the first ring (see page 29 for Caller ID featur es and options).
16 T elephone Operation Options while on calls T o adjust volume Press CID V or ^ DIR buttons on the handset or the VOLUME button on the base to adjust listening volume. Call waiting If you subscribe to a Call W aiting ser vice with your local telephone ser vice pr ovider , you will hear a beep if someone calls while you ar e alr eady on a call.
17 T elephone Operation Options while on calls T emporar y tone dialing If you ha v e dial pulse (r otar y) ser vice, you can s witch to touch tone dialing during a call by pr essing * . This can be useful if you need to send tone signals f or access to answ ering systems or long-distance ser vices.
18 T elephone Operation Call transfer Call transfer T o mov e an outside call from one cor dless handset to the other cordless handset: 1. Press SELECT / TRANSFER . Y our cordless handset will displa y CALL TRANSFERRED and the destination handset will begin ringing.
19 T elephone Operation Inter com calls Intercom calls Y ou can use the intercom f eature to ha v e conv ersa- tions between one cor dless handset and the base. Press the INT/DELETE button on a cor dless handset or INTERCOM/CID DEL at the base. T o answ er an intercom page on a cor dless handset, press INT/DELETE .

22 22 Directories Directories (handset and base) Each cordless handset or the base has its own and separate directory . Each directory can store up to 30 entries. Each entr y can contain a number up to 24 dig- its, and a name up to 15 letters. A convenient sear ch featur e can help you find and dial numbers quickl y (see page 27).
23 Directories 23 Directories Speed dialing (cordless handset onl y) On the cordless handset, numbers called most frequentl y can be stored in so that the y can be dialed with only two button presses. Y ou can enter 9 Speed Dial numbers up to 24 digits.

29 Caller ID Operation Ho w Caller ID works If you subscribe to Caller ID service provided b y your local phone company , information about each caller will be displa y ed at both the cordless handset and the base after the first or second ring.
30 30 Caller ID Operation Y ou can use this telephone with regular Caller ID ser - vice, and you can use its other f eatures without sub- scribing to either Caller ID or combined Caller ID with Call W aiting ser vice. There ma y be fees f or these ser - vices, and they ma y not be a vailable in all areas.
31 Caller ID Operation 31 CID memor y Memor y Capacity Each cordless handset or the base has its own and separate Call Log memor y . Each can store up to 30 CID recor ds respectiv ely . These numbers ar e a vailable for subsequent r etrieval or for sa ving into the internal directory for long-term storage until they ar e deleted.
32 Caller ID Operation 32 CID memor y Dialing from CID Memory • Press CID V on the base unit or on the cordless handset to activate the CID Memor y . • Press CID V or DIR ^ on the base unit or on the cordless handset to scr oll to the desir ed number to be dialed.
33 Caller ID Operation 33 CID memor y • Press SELECT / TRANSFER to edit the telephone num- ber . Y ou can make an y changes to the number b y using the CID V button to erase characters, or using the dialpad to enter new ones (see pages 25-26 for instructions).
34 Caller ID Operation 34 CID memor y Deleting all CID recor ds • Pr ess and hold INT/DELETE on the cordless hand- set or INTERCOM/CID DEL on the base unit for 2 seconds or longer to clear all entries in the call log memor y .
35 Caller ID Operation 35 Call waiting If you ha v e subscribed to the Call W aiting service from your local phone service provider , you will hear a beep if there is an incoming call while y ou are alr eady on the phone. The telephone number of the new incoming call will also be displa y ed on the screen.
36 36 Answering System Operation Messag e capacity The answ ering system can recor d up to 96 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes long, and total maximum r ecording time is 15 minutes. Messages will remain a vailable f or repla y until y ou delete them.
37 Answering System Operation 37 Da y and time announcements T o set da y and time Befor e pla ying each message, the answ ering system announces the da y and time the message was r eceived. Befor e using the answering system, you should follow the steps at left to set the da y and time, so messages are dated cor rectly .
38 Answering System Operation 38 Outgoing announcements Outgoing announcements ar e the messages callers hear when calls are ans wer ed by the answ ering system. The phone is pre-pr ogrammed with an announcement. If the phone is set up to recor d messages, the phone answ ers calls with “ Hello.

40 Answering System Operation 40 Messag e pla yback Press PLA Y/ STOP to hear messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins pla yback. If you ha v e new messages waiting, you will hear only the new messages (oldest first). If there ar e no new messages, the system will pla y back all messages (oldest first).
41 Answering System Operation 41 Recording and pla ying memos Memos are messages y ou r ecord y ourself. They are sa ved, pla y ed back and deleted exactly lik e incoming mes- sages. Y ou can record a memo as a r eminder to yourself, or lea ve a message f or someone else if other members of your household ar e using the answ ering system.
42 Answering System Operation 42 Messag e counter displa ys The message counter usually displa ys the total number of memos and incoming messages. See the list below for explanations of other displa ys in this counter . Messag e counter displa ys 0 No messages.
43 Answering System Operation 43 1. Remote access A two digit security code is r equir ed to access your answ ering system from an y touch-tone phone. This code is 19 by default; see page 39 to change it. Dial your telephone number from any touch-tone phone.
44 Appendix 44 CONNECTING... The handset is waiting for a dial tone. NEEDS RECHARGING Handset battery is depleted. Place handset in charger to charge the battery. BATTERY LOW Handset battery is low. Place handset in charger to charge the battery. RINGER OFF The handset ringer is turned off.

48 Appendix T r oubleshooting I get noise, static, or weak signal even when I’m near the base. • Other electronic pr oducts can cause interference to your cor dless telephone.
49 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cordless handset does not ring when I receive a call. • Make sure that the ringer is turned on. Refer to the section(s) on ringer selection in this user’ s manual. • Make sure the telephone line cor d is plugged securely into the tele- phone base and the telephone jack.
50 Appendix T r oubleshooting The CHARGING light is off. • Clean the cordless handset and charging contacts on the charger each month using a pencil eraser or cloth. • Make sure the power and line cor ds are plugged in correctly and securely . • Unplug the unit’ s electrical power .
51 Appendix Common cure for electronic equipment. If the unit does not seem to be responding normally , try putting the cordless handset in its charger . If it does not seem to respond, do the following (in the order listed): • Disconnect the power to the telephone base.
