5 Getting started T elephone base installation Choose a central location close t o a telephone jack and a power outlet not controlled t o a wall switch. The telephone base can be plac ed on a flat sur- face or mount ed on a standard wall plat e. For optimum r ange and better reception, plac e the telephone base in a high and open location.

8 Getting started W all mounting The telephone base can be installed on any standar d wall-phone outlet as shown below. Choose a location awa y from electr onic equipment such as per- sonal computers, comput er rout ers, tel evision sets or micr owave ovens.
9 Getting started Belt clip & optional headset t Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. Plug 2.5mm head- set into jack on side of handset (beneath small rubber flap). NOTE: If the sound quality of the headset is not good, try unplugging it, and firmly plugging it in again.
10 T elephone operation Handset set tings Y ou can change settings to program how the cordless handset works. Each c ordless handset operates individuall y from the other handsets. The ringer sound, ringer volume, date & time dial mode and language must be programmed sepa- ratel y for each cor dless handset.
11 T elephone operation Handset set tings Set handset date & time The handset displays the date & time when idle. Y ou can set the time manually, or you can allow it to be set automaticall y with incoming caller ID information.
12 T elephone operation Handset set tings Set handset ringer tone This feature allows you t o choose one of 4 ringing tones (1-4) or turn the ringer off . Use CID/-VOL UME or DIR /VOL UME+ button to hear an example of each ringer tone, then press SELE CT/ TRANSFER to select the one you prefer .
13 T elephone operation Base set tings Y ou can change settings to program how the t ele- phone base works. Follow the steps below t o progr am the telephone base. T o stop at any time, pr ess CLEAR . If the telephone rings, progr amming stops aut omatically so you can answer the call.
14 T elephone operation Base set tings Choose base ringer volume The base ringer volume can be set to OFF , LO W , or HI , by adjusting the switch on the left side of the telephone base. This switch a ffects only the telephone base ringer volume, the handset ringer volume remains unchanged.
15 T elephone operation Basic cor dless handset oper ation Making and answering calls T o answer an incoming call, press PHONE/ FLASH (or any key e xcept OFF /CLEAR , CID/-VOL UME or DIR /VOL UME+ ).
16 T elephone operation Basic base oper ation Making and answering calls T o answer a call, lift the corded handset, or press SPEAKER . If you have caller ID service, the call- er’s number and name will appear on the display screen aft er the first ring (see page 30 for caller ID features and options).
17 T elephone operation Options while on calls T o adjust volume Press CID/-VOLUME or DIR /V OL UME+ buttons on the cordless handset or the VOL UME but- ton on the telephone base t o adjust listening volume.
18 T elephone operation Options while on calls Channel (cor dless handset only) If a call is noisy , unclear or if words fade out, press MENU/ CHAN on the cor dless handset to scan for a bett er communication channel between the handset and the telephone base.
19 T elephone operation Call tr ansf er Call trans fer T o move an outside call from one c ordless hand- set to the other cor dless handset: • Press SELECT /TR ANSFER . Y our cordless handset will display CALL TR ANSFERRED and the desti- nation handset will begin ringing.
20 T elephone operation Int er com calls Inter com calls Y ou can use the intercom featur e to have con- versations between the handset and the tele- phone base. Press the INT/ DELETE butt on on the cordless handset or INTER C OM/ CID DEL at the telephone base.
21 T elephone operation Int er com calls Inter com calls During a telephone conversation, you can move the call to the telephone base fr om a cor dless handset, or to a cor dless handset from the t el- ephone base.
22 T elephone operation Int er com calls Inter com calls T o move a call from the t elephone base to the cordless handset: • Press HOLD (If you ar e on the base Speakerphone, this step is optional since the outside call will automatically be put on HOLD ).
23 T elephone operation 23 Dir ectories Dir ectories (handset and base) Each cordless handset or the t elephone base has its own and separate dir ectory . Each directory can store up t o 30 entries. Each entry can contain a number up to 24 digits, and a name up to 15 let- ters.
24 T elephone operation Speed dialing (cor dless handset onl y) On the cordless handset, numbers called most fr e- quently can be stor ed in so that they can be dialed with only two butt on presses. Y ou can enter nine speed dial numbers up to 24 digits.

Y ou can also change names, numbers and the distinctive ringing settings, or erase entries, that ar e stored in the cor dless handset or the tele- phone base.

31 Caller ID operation Caller ID oper ation How caller ID works If you subscribe to caller ID service pr ovided by your local telephone company , information about each caller will be displayed between the first and second ring. Information about the last 30 incoming calls is stored in the call log.

33 Caller ID operation Caller ID memory Memory capacity Each cordless handset or the t elephone base has its own directory . Each directory can stor e up to 30 caller ID rec ords r espectively . These numbers are available for subsequent r etrieval or for saving into the internal dir ectory for long-t erm storage until they are deleted.

37 Caller ID operation Call waiting If you have subscribed to the call waiting service from your local telephone c ompany , you will hear a beep if there is an incoming call while you ar e already on the phone. The telephone number of the new incoming call will also be displayed on the screen.
38 Answering syst em oper ation Message capacity The answering system can rec ord up t o 95 mes- sages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minut es long, and total maximum r ecor ding time is 15 minutes. Messages will remain available f or replay until you delete them.
39 Answering system operation Day & time announcements T o set day & time Before pla ying each message, the answering sys- tem announces the day & time the message was received. Before using the answering syst em, follow the steps on left to set the da y & time, so messages are dated c orrectly .

42 Answering system operation Message playback Press PLA Y/ STOP to hear messages. The system announces the number of messages, then begins playback. If you have new messages waiting, you will hear only the n ew messages (oldest first). If ther e are no new messages, the system will playback all mes- sages (oldest first).
43 Answering system operation R ec or ding & playing memos Memos are messages you r ecord yourself . They are saved, played back and delet ed exactl y like incoming messages. Y ou can record a memo as a reminder to yourself , or leave a message for someone else if other members of your household are using the answering system.

51 Appendix The batteries will not hold a charge • Charge the batt ery in the cordless handset f or at least 16 hours. For optimum daily perf ormance, return the c ordless handset to its charger when not in use. • Make sur e the handset is placed in the char ger correctl y .
52 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cordless handset does not ring when I receive a call • Make sure that the ringer is turned on. R efer t o the section(s) on ringer selection in this user’s manual. • Make sure the telephone line c ord is plugged secur ely into the telephone base and the t elephone jack.
53 Appendix T r oubleshooting • Other electronic products can cause interf erence with your cordless t elephone. Try inst alling your telephone as far away as possible fr om electronic devices wir e.
54 Appendix T r oubleshooting Incomplete messages • If a caller leaves a very l ong message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call aft er four minutes. • If the caller pauses for more than seven sec onds, the sys- tem stops r ecor ding and disconnects the call.
