2 Getting Started CHAN MUTE REDIAL MUTE During a call, press to mute microphone (see page 14). PHONE/FLASH Press to make or answer a call. During a call, press to receive an incom- ing call, if Call Waiting is activated (see page 14). MENU/SELECT Press to display menu, or to store a pragramming option (see pages 10-11).

5 Getting Started Getting Started Befor e you begin Caller ID and Call W aiting Caller ID with Call W aiting features in this telephone let you see who's call- ing befor e you answ er the phone, ev en when you'r e on another call. These featur es require services provided b y your local telephone compan y .
6 Getting Started T elephone base installation Install the telephone base as shown below . Choose a location in a central location within the home and: • Awa y from an y other cordless (wireless) de vice such as cordless telephones, 802.11 wireless r outer (for example, WiFi).
7 Getting Started Batter y installation & charging After batter y installation, place the cordless handset in the base and allow to charge for at least 16 hours befor e use . Y ou can k eep the batter y charged by returning the cordless handset to the base after each use.
Getting Started 8 W all mounting The base can be installed on any standar d phone outlet as shown below . Choose a loca- tion in a central location within the home, a way fr om electronic equipment such as per - sonal computers, computer routers, television sets or micr owa ve ov ens.
Getting Started Belt clip & optional headset Install belt clip as shown below if desir ed. Snap belt clip into notches on side of cordless handset. Rotate and pull to remove. Plug 2.5 mm headset into jack on side of cord- less handset (beneath small rubber cap).

CHAN MUTE REDIAL 15 Directory Memor y capacity The directory can store up to 30 entries (including nine speed dial locations). Each entr y can contain a number up to 24 digits, and a name up to 15 letters long. A con- venient sear ch feature can help y ou find and dial num- bers quickly (see page 19).

14 Answering System Operation Messag e capacity The answ ering system can record up to 99 messages, depending on the length of each message. Individual messages can be up to four minutes long, and the maximum r ecording time is 15 minutes. Messages will remain a vailable for r eplay until the y are deleted.

39 Appendix CAN’T CONNECT displays on my cordless hand- set. • Move the cordless handset closer to the base. Y ou might have moved out of range. • Ensure that the base is power ed up. • Place the cordless handset in base cradle for 1 minute to allow the cordless handset and base to r esynchronize channels.
40 Appendix T r oubleshooting I get noise, static, or weak signal even when I’m near the base. • Other cordless phones and 802.11 wir eless routers that are used for home computer networks both use internal radios to communicate. The radios may interfere with one another .
41 Appendix T r oubleshooting My cordless handset does not ring when I receive a call. • Make sure that the ringer is not turned off. Refer to the section(s) on ringer selection in this user’ s manual. • Make sure the telephone line cord is plugged secur ely into the base unit and the telephone jack.
42 Appendix T r oubleshooting • If your phone is plugged in with a modem or surge protector , plug the phone (or modem/surge protector) into a dif ferent location. If this solves the problem, r e-locate your phone or modem farther apart from one another , or use a differ ent surge protector .
43 Appendix Incomplete messages. • If a caller leaves a very long message, part of it may be lost when the system disconnects the call after 4 minutes. • If the caller pauses for more than 7 seconds, the system stops recor ding and disconnects the call.
