1 About Softkeys This telephone has been designed with your conv enience in mind, of fering you man y features whic h you can access using the four “softke ys. ” BEFORE YOU BEGIN By pressing the softkey next to the oper ation indicated on the display screen, you select that oper ation.
2 About Home Area Code and Local Area Codes Alwa ys program your Home Area Code, and, if you need them, up to f our Local Area Codes. (See “Program Home Area Code”on page 7 f or information about the Home Area Code).
3 About Caller Identification (Caller ID) This unit keeps a record of the names and numbers of the last 99 calls, whether you ans wer the phone or not.
4 Batter y Installation Befor e using the telephone, install a 9V batter y (not included). In case of a power f ailure, you will be able to use the phone normally if a fresh 9V batter y is installed, but Caller ID information will not be display ed.

• If you hav e two separate jacks, plug the free end of the cord with the blue plugs into the modular wall jac k for Line 1. Plug the free end of the cord with the c lear plugs into the modular wall jack f or Line 2. Make sure the cor ds snap fir mly into place.
7 INST ALL A TION 9 Program Home Ar ea Code. Y ou must program your ar ea code so your phone can properly recognize and dial calls. If for calls Y ou dial Enter within your 7 digits Y our area own are.

9 5 Connect the power cord to the phone. Fit the pow er cord behind the strain relief tab. Then plug the smaller end of the power cor d into the jack labeled POWER at the back of the system. 6 Connect the line cord(s) to your modular jack(s) and mount the phone onto the wall.
Phone Options T o chang e the Langua g e, Area Code, Pr imar y Line, Automatic Line or A utomatic Mode Selection settings you programmed during installation, press O , then select PHONE and continue to select OK or DONE to reach the setting y ou want to chang e.
11 Voice Message Options V oice mail signals are sent in two different w ays (FSK or Stutter). This phone automatically detects and uses the method used by your v oice mail ser vice. (Y our ser vice pro vider can g iv e you more information about your ser vice.
PROGRAMMING OPTIONS 12 Caller ID Options Y ou can customize how the Caller ID features of this phone w ork. Select DONE or select OK until the screen displa ys the option you want to customize. Options are descr ibed below in the or der the y appear in the phones menu.
13 TELEPHONE OPERA TION Make a Call Press a LINE button and lift the handset — OR — Press K — OR — Press h , then dial the call. Change Time and/or Date Use the softkeys ne xt to the display ed time or date to access the time or date entr y screens.
14 TELEPHONE OPERA TION Mute Press to prev ent the other party from hearing you. Press again to return to conversation. Flash Press F instead of pressing the switc hhook to activate ser vices such as Call W aiting or 3-W ay Calling.
TELEPHONE OPERA TION Automatic Line Selection A utomatic Line Selection is preset to be active. This means the system is preset to select a line f or you when you lift the handset or press S . The system will automatically select a ringing line befor e an idle line, and an idle line befor e the pr imar y line.
Conference Calls Y ou can use both lines at the same time to set up a three-way confer ence call. 1 Make or answ er a call and press H . 2 Establish a call on the other line. 3 Press C . 4 Hang up to end a confer ence call. If one caller hangs up during a conference call, you might hear a dial tone.
17 TELEPHONE MEMOR Y Directory Card Remove the plastic co ver and the director y card. Write your telephone numbers in the spaces provided, and write the telephone number s (or names) that you want to store in eac h memor y location. Replace the card and plastic cov er in the space provided.
18 TELEPHONE MEMOR Y Dialing Memor y Numbers 1 Lift the handset — OR — Press K — OR — Press h and listen for dial tone. 2 Press and release a one-touc h memor y location — OR — Press and release W then a two-touc h memor y location. The system dials the number automatically and the number is display ed on the screen.
19 TELEPHONE MEMOR Y Storing Numbers from Call Histor y in Memory While reviewing Caller ID inf or mation, you can store information from Caller ID call histor y in telephone memor y . 1 Use + or - to scroll through the call histor y . 2 Press O to see choices of how the number can be dialed.
20 CALLER ID OPERA TION NOTE: Y ou must subscribe to Caller ID and Call W aiting service with y our local telephone company f or this system to w ork. Contact y our local telephone compan y f or information a bout ser vice a vailability . Dif fer ent telephone service pro viders may call these services by dif f erent names.
Setting Display Screen Options Y ou can customize how the Caller ID f eatures of this product wor k. See “Caller ID Options” on pa g e 12 for instructions. Display Screen Messages Screen Displays: When: PRIVATE NAME The other party is blocking name inf or mation.
22 CALLER ID OPERA TION Message Waiting and NEW CALL Lights There is a NEW CALL light f or each line. The NEW CALL light will stay on steadily when y ou have new calls in the call log.
23 CALLER ID OPERA TION Call Histor y This telephone assigns each incoming call a number from 1 to 99. The most recent call will have the highest number .
24 CALLER ID OPERA TION Display Dial As you revie w calls in histor y , you can dial a display ed phone number . If the call information came from the Home Area Code you prog rammed at installation, the screen displa ys only the seven-digit number (without an area code).

26 Problems with Line-In-Use Lights Make sure all plugs are connected properl y . Inspect the line cord connections at the modular jack and at the telephone. Also inspect the coiled handset cord connections at both ends. NEW CALL Light Flashes Make sure you hav e reviewed all of the ne w calls in call histor y .
