15 Thread regulator Depending on the stitch type, regulator 41 must be set in position R or N. Position R is for all rolledhem seams. Position N is for all other seams. How to use thread regulator 41: Pull regulator 41 outwards and push it downwards to position R until it snaps n (see ill.
Sewing test After threading, a sewing test should be carried out. Raise the sewing foot with lifting lever 20 as shown in the illustration. Hold the thread ends with your left hand and turn the hand wheel with your right hand in the direction indica ted by the arrow on the wheel.
Points to remember during sewing! Sew the first stitches sIowy. If the machine has been rethreaded, place the fabric under sewing foot 8 and push it up to the needle before starting to sew. Since the fabric is fed automatically, do not pull or push the fabric.
Adjusting the sewing foot pressure: Setting ,,N” of thumbwheel 1 is the standard sewing foot pressure. If very thick fabrics are to be sewn, set the thumbwheel at ,,4’.
Setting the standard thread tension Optimum seam appearance depends on the type of fabric used and on the thread size. The correct tension is set after checking the thread interloop see pages 20 to 24). Set ,,N” on the thread tension thumbwheels at the corresponding colour symbol.
Chainstitch Set regulator 41 at N (see page 1 5). Stitch type 1 sewn with needle A Thread tensions: blue = triangular symbol mauve = triangular symbol Application example: Joining linen- or jeans parts without serging. 5-thread safetystitch seam (narrow) Set regulator 41 at N (see page 15).
4-thread overedge seam Set regulator 41 at N (see page 15> Stitch type 6 sewn with needles B and C Thread tensions: blue = dot symbol pink = dot symbol green = dot symbol yellow = dot symbol Application examples: For sewing and serging all types of fabric, especially suitable for stretch fabrics.
Correcting the Thread tensions: The thread tensions can be set from —5 to +5. The tension is set at the minus range or plus range according to the seam appearance. Towards + = stronger tension Towards — = weaker tension Chainstitch The thread tension of needle A is too weak.
3-thread overedge seam 4-thread overedge seam The left looper thread is too loose (yel low tension) or the right looper thread is too tight (green tension). It is possible that both tensions are incorrectly set. Adjust tensions accordingly. The left looper thread is too tight (yel low tension) or the right looper is too loose (green tension).
4-thread overedge seam The thread tension of needle C is too weak. The pink tension must be turned towards +. 4-thread overedge seam The thread tension of needle B is too weak.

Setting the stitch length Still holding pushlock 39 (see page 29), now turn hand wheel ‘Ii to set the required stitch length at mark A. The stitch length settings range from 1 mm to 4 mm. The numbers on the hand wheel indicate the stitch length in mm.
Adjusting the differential feed The differential feed prevents interply shift. It consists of two feed dogs, arranged one behind the other, which simultaneously take hold of the workpiece and move it. The feed amount of either feed dog can be set separately.
This table indicates possible settings of the differential feed. Carry out a sewing test to find out the correct setting for your fabric. The differential feed can also be set during sewing.
Converting the machine to chain stitch, stitch type 1 Remove waste box 25, see page 14. Open looper cover 1 2 a little and pull off knife guard 10 upwards. Insert needle A (see page 40). Note: For sewing with chainstitch at a hem width greater than 9 mm.
Inserting the workpiece guide plate Open work support 1 5 a little. When inserting the workpiece guide plate, make sure it is level with the needle plate. Close the looper cover and the work support. Now the chain- stitch seam can be sewn! Set the edge guide to the required hem width.
