12 Camera Features In addition to basic picture-taking , the Optio Z10 has a variety of shoot ing modes to suit d ifferent situations. This section describ es how to make th e most of the key featu res of your came ra. Together with the explanati ons of camera operat ions, it will enable you to enj oy your camera to the full.
13 The user-friendly design of the Op tio Z10 enab les easy operation with only a few buttons. Simply by choosing th e appropriate icon, you can select Shooting mode (p.53) and choose the optimal settings for the situation, or Playback mode (p. 116, p.

19 Histogram + Info Display in Still Picture Captur e Mode About the Bright and Dark Portions When there is an area in the frame that is so bright it appears white, the indicated area blinks red as a warning. Similarly, when there i s an area that is so dark it appears black, the indicate d area blinks yellow as a warning.

25 1 Getting Started Use of the AC adapter kit K-AC63 (optional) is recommended if you intend to use th e camera for a long time or con nect it to a PC. 1 Make sure that the ca mera is turned off and open the terminal cover. 2 Connect the DC terminal of the AC adapt er to DC input terminal of the camera wit h the 2 marks fa cing the same direction.
26 1 Getting Started Installing the SD Memory Card This camera uses an SD M emory Card. Captured images an d sound files are saved on the SD Memory Card if a card is insert ed in the camera. They are saved in the built-in mem ory if a card is not inserted.

28 1 Getting Started Precaution s When Usin g an SD M emory Car d • The SD Memory Card is equipped with a write- protect switch . Setting the switch to LOCK protects the existing data by prohibiting recording of new dat a, deletion of existing data or formatting of the card.

32 1 Getting Started Turning the Camera On and Off 1 Open the lens cover. The camera turns on and th e power indicator turns on. If the Ini tial Setting screen appears when y ou turn the camera on, follow the procedure o n p.34 to set the display language a nd/or current date and time.
33 1 Getting Started Use this mode when you want to play back an image or sound file straightaway without taking any more pictures. 1 Press and hold the playbac k button for two second s. The LCD monitor turns on and the camera starts in Playback mode.

62 4 Taking Pictures Taking Pictures Taking Pictures In 5 (Auto Picture mode), when you press the shutter release button, the camera selects the most appropria te mode from four shooting modes: - (Standard mode), A (Night Scen e mode), q (Landscape mode) and e (Portrait mod e).

69 4 Taking Pictures • If the camera cannot recognize t he location of the subject’s face, the camera f ocuses using th e normal Focusing Area (Multip le).
70 4 Taking Pictures C (Kids mode) is ideal for taking pictur es of moving children. Also gives them a healthy look. “Face Recognition AF” and. “F ace Recognition AE” are activated. When you point the came ra at your subject’s face, the camera automatically recognizes it, adjusting both focus and exposure.
71 4 Taking Pictures • Continuous Shooti ng and High Speed Continuo us Shooting cannot be used in C mode. • Face Recognition AE may not work if the sub ject is wearing sunglasses or has part of t he face covered or if the subj ect is not looking toward the camera.
