20 1 Getting Started Instal ling the SD Memory Card This ca mera uses a n SD Memory Card. Capture d images , movies an d voice re cordings can be s aved on the SD Memo ry Card if a card is inserted in the cam era. They are saved in the bu ilt-in memory if a ca rd is not inse rted.

27 1 Getting Started Using the Camera This ca mera is designed so that t he lens a nd LCD m onitor swi vel to al low you to ta ke pictu res from a variety o f angles (free style ). The foll owing describ es the bas ic way to hold the camera and h ow to use it.
28 1 Getting Started Make use of this feature to take pictur es of yourself or to take pictures in a crowd by extendi ng your arm . You can t ake pictu res with the camera while it is still in the USB c radle. The U SB cra dle makes a s tab le bas e fo r posi tioni ng th e cam era on a table or s helf or ot her flat su rface.
29 1 Getting Started By conn ecting the camera to a v ideo recorde r, DVD rec order or o ther AV equipme nt, you c an record ima ges capt ured by the c amera. ( 1 p.11 0) As the trip od sock et is loc ated on th e side of the lens section, pictures are taken in the ve rtical position unless you adju st the cam era after attachin g it to the tripod.

On e involves takin g pictur es one afte r the other and saving ea ch one s eparately (C ontinuou s Shooting mode), and the other i nvolves jo ining a series of pictures i nto a singl e image (M ultiple Shoo ting mode).

The shap e of the h istogram tells you w hether the e x posure of the ima ge is corr ect or not.
