12 C2681M (2/08) Site Preparation Before you install the EW 5001, complete the following items: • Select a site fo r the EW5001. • Install a mount for the EW50 01. • Wire the site f or power and n etwork acc ess. The EW500 1 supports Po wer -over-Ethernet (PoE).
C2681M (2/08 ) 13 POWER AND NETWORK WIRING The EW5001 s upports two me thods for s upplying powe r and netwo rk access to the unit: separate powe r and netwo rk cables or a sing le network cable using Power -over -Ethernet (PoE) technology . The following sections describe bot h methods.
14 C2681M (2/08) T o install the power cable (refer to Figure 6 on pa ge 13): 1. Run power line s from the powe r supply to the mount site (refer t o the power specificatio ns at the st art of this s ection).
C2681M (2/08 ) 15 T o install the network cable (refer to Fig ure 6 on page 13): 1. Run the ne twork cable from a network sw itch inside the bu ilding to the mou nt site. The equipment must sup port Gigabit Ether ne t operatio n. NOTE: If you use a junction box or pat ch panel, make su re the connection is pr otected from the we ather .
16 C2681M (2/08) POWER -OVER -ETHERNET (POE) Power -over-Ethernet (PoE) lets you su pply both power and network connectiv ity over a singl e cable. This simplifie s installation and decreases the potential f or unit fa ilure. The EW5001 supports Po E from ei ther a PoE injector or a PoE -enabled ne twork switc h.
C2681M (2/08 ) 17 T o install PoE fo r the EW500 1 (refer to Figure 8) : 1. Install the PoE equipm ent (refer to the equip ment docume ntation). 2. Run the n etwork cable from the Po E equipment to the mount site. The equip ment must support Gigabit Ethernet operation.
18 C2681M (2/08) ANTENNA INSTALLATION Pelco offer s a planar an tenna with in tegrated mou nt (EW-ANTP-2-9 or EW-ANTP-5-8) for use with t he EW5001. The se are the o nly an te nnas that can be mounted dir ectly to the EW5001. A ny other antenn a must be mounted se parately .

NOTES: • It is easier to attach the in tegrated antenn a to the unit on the ground before carrying it up to the mount .
20 C2681M (2/08) 2. Install the mount (refer to the moun t documentation fo r more information). 3. Orient the J- box so that the arrows and the wo rd “UP” ar e pointed up (refer to Figure 12). Figure 12. J-Box Orientation 4. Secure the J-box to the mount (refer to Figure 13).
