6 POWERING THE CD PLA YER You can power your CD pla yer from any o f these s ources: • T wo AA alkaline batteries (not supplied) • T wo r echargea ble AA nick el- cadmium batteries (not supplied) .
7 Cautio ns : • If you will not be using the CD player with battery power for sev- eral months, remove the ba tteries. • Dispose of ol d batteries promptly and properly .
8 Imp o rt an t : Your CD pl ayer is capable of using nickel-cadm ium batte r ies . At the end of the batteries’ us eful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your lo ca l, coun ty, or state hazardous waste manag e- ment authorities for information on re- cycling or disposal p r o grams in your area.

10 CONNECTIONS You can l isten to your CD pla yer by connecting earph ones/headphon es or amplified speakers to the player’s PHONES ja ck, or b y connect ing a home audio or autosound system to the CD player’s LINE OUT jack .
11 CONNECTING AMPLIFIED SPEAKERS You can listen to y o ur CD pl ayer through optional ampli fied speakers (such as Cat. No. 40-1387). Plug the speaker cable’ s 1 / 8 -inch plug into the CD player’s PH O NE S ja ck.
12 • If your autosound system has a cassette deck , connect the sup- plied CD-to-cas sette adapter ’s plug to t he CD player ’ s PHONES jack. Then insert the adapter ’s other end into you r cassette deck just like a standard cassette . Note: You ca n mount your CD play er in your car using an optional mount ing bracket.
13 OPE RATION LOADING A CD Cautio n: To help prevent dust from entering the CD playe r , alwa ys keep t he CD c omp art me n t c ov er cl os ed ex - cept when loading or unloading CDs. 1. Set OFF/RESUME/HOLD to OFF . 2. Slide OPEN i n the direction of t he arrow and lift the CD compa rtment cover .
14 If you conn ected an exte rnal power source, the CD play er’s but tons li ght until you s t op t h e CD and turn t he CD player off, or t he CD player t urns itself off automatically. To temporarily s top play, press PLA Y/ P AUSE . flashes. To resume play, press PLA Y/P AUSE again.
15 To turn off the anti-sh ock syste m, set DAS OUT/IN to OUT . The sound b riefly stops, then disappears from the display. LOCKING THE CONTROL S You can protect your CD pl ayer from accidental program chan ges by lock- ing all controls ex cept OPEN , VOL- UME , DAS OUT/IN (and OFF/RESUME/ HOLD itse l f ) .
16 AUDIBLE SEARCH To searc h forward or backw ard during play, hol d down or . The CD plays rapidly and you hea r the m usic at a high speed and lo w volume. The cur- rent track’s elapsed time ap pears on the d i sp la y. Release t he but ton to resume no rmal play.
17 To repeat all tracks on a CD or in a pro- grammed seque nce, press PLA Y MODE twice. appears o n the display. When the C D player reaches t he end of the CD or the prog rammed se- quence, it continuou sly returns to the fir st track an d rep lays al l the tracks.
18 While the program med sequen ce plays, you can use t o move f o rw ar d o r to mo ve ba ckw a rd in the sequence. 6. After the last programm ed track ends, the CD p layer stops.

21 REPLACING THE DC ADAPTER ’ S FUSE If the CD player stops op erating, check the fuse i n the DC adapte r’s cigarette-lighter plug. If it has bl own, follow these steps to rep lace it with a 3-amp, 5 × 20 mm, fas t-acting fuse such as Ca t. No. 270 -1054 (not s u p- plie d).
