5 PREP ARA TION ACCESSORIES Your VCP includes the following connec- tion access ories. Be sure to unpack all of them bef ore you throw away the packing mate ria l. 300-to-75-ohm Adapter — conn ects a 300-ohm antenna wire to the VCP’s ANT .IN term inal.
6 MAKING CO NNECTIONS You can connec t your VC P to a T V/mon- itor, a VCR (v ideo c ass e t te recorder), or both. To help you make the right connec- tions: • If your TV/ monitor does n ot have separate aud io an d video input jacks, use the connections de- scribed in “Connect ing a S tandard TV .
7 Con necting a Sta ndard TV Follo w these s teps to connect the V CP to a standard TV th at has a 75-ohm cable jack, but does not have separate audio and video i n put jacks. 1. Discon nect the antenna or cable wi re from your TV’s VHF antenna te r min al and conn ect it t o the VCP’s ANT .
8 Co nnecti ng a TV/Mo nit or Follow these in structions to connect your VCP to either a T V monitor or a s tandard TV that has separate audio and video input jacks. Connect the V CP’s A UDIO and VI DEO OUT ja cks to the TV/moni tor’s audio an d v ideo input jacks using vide o-quality shielded cabl es (not s up plied).

10 Co nnectin g a Vid eo Pr oc essor To improve the quality of copied tapes, you can c onnect a video processor (not sup- plied), suc h as Radio Shac k C at. No. 15-1962, to the VCP. Note : Mo st video processors are equi p ped with separate audio and video jacks.
11 SETTING THE CHANNEL SWITCH CHANNEL , l ocated o n the back of the VCP , determines on w hich chann el (3 or 4) a s tandard T V receives t he VCP ’s sig- na l. Set it to 3 f or c hannel 3, or 4 fo r cha n- nel 4 . Notes : • If possibl e, set CHANNEL to a cha n - nel on which you do not receive re g- ular t elevision b roadcasts.
12 • Always plug the AC adapt er into the recorder before you plug it into the AC outlet. Always unplug the AC adapter from the outlet before y ou unplug it f rom the recorder . Usin g V eh icle Batter y Pow er The supplied DC adapter lets you power your VCP and a portable TV (not sup- plied) from your vehicle’s cigarette lighter sock et.
13 Caution : T o avoid da mag ing the VCP mechani sm, do not try to load a tape while the DEW indicator is on. If DEW turns on, disconnect the VCP’s power for about 2 hours, then plug it back in. If DEW turns off, you can proceed with normal operation of your VCP.
14 OPE RA TION USING THE R EMOTE CONTROL The control bu ttons on the remote con- trol are identic al to those on t he front of the VCP. To use the remote control, be sure that the front end of it is pointing with a cl ear path toward the front of t he VCP, then press the desired button(s).
15 5. T o eject the t ape, press EJECT . T APE I N turns off and the V CP ejects the tape. 6. Press PO WER to t u rn off t he VC P . The red POWE R indicator turns of f . F AST-FORW ARD/REWIND To fas t-forward or rew ind the tape at high-speed, with the tape stopped, press FA S T - F or REW (rew ind).
16 To us e visual se arch, p ress PLA Y(x2) to begin norma l play, then press FA S T - F to search forward or REW to se a rch ba ck - ward. The F AST-F or REW indicator lights steadily along with the P LAY i ndi- cator, and t h e tape begins t o play either forward or backward at a faster spee d.
17 Auto Repeat Playba ck You can set the VCP to continuou sly play, rewind, then repeat a tape. To set the VCP for auto repeat playba ck, b efore or during norm al playbac k, press AUTO REPEA T so the AUTO REPE AT indi ca to r lights steadily. The tape auto matically rewinds when it reache s the e nd, then begins to play again.
18 W A TCHING BRO ADCAST TV To watch broadcast TV o n a st andard TV connected t o the VC P, s imply press POWER t o turn of f the VCP, t hen tune t o the de sired station on the TV . COPYING A VIDEO T APE If yo u connec ted a VCR to t he VCP , you can use your V CP t o play back a vi deo cassette tape whi le the V CR records it.

21 CLEANING THE VIDEO HEADS Dirty vid eo he ads can cause t he VCP’s picture to b e blurred during playback , even when the v ideo signal is clear. We recomm end that you cle an the hea ds only when such p roblem s occur. F or proper head cleaning, follow the instruc- tions i n a head-c lean ing ki t, suc h as R a- dio S hack Cat.
22 Warning : To prevent a shock hazard when yo u replace the fuse, be sure t he VCP is t urned off and its power i s discon- nected. Follow these steps to r eplace the fuse. 1. Unscrew the fuse com partment cap ( FUSE ) on the back of the VCP , then remove the cap.
