En- 9 Connecting the Receiver Disconne ct the power cord from the electrical outlet before making any connections. The receiv er allo ws you to c onnect two sets of speakers. When two sets of speakers are connected, you can select which speaker set outputs s ound or use both sets to output sound simultaneously .
En- 10 Connecting the Receiver —Continued Using a suitable cable, conn ect the recei ver’ s PRE OUT : SUBWOOFER to the input on your powered subw oofer . If your subwoofer is unpow ered and you’ re using an external amplif ier , connect the PRE OUT : SUBWOOFER to the amp’ s input.
En- 11 Connecting the Receiver —Continued On the recei ver , the factory default for speak er impedance is “6 Ω ”. If you n eed to change the speaker impeda nce setting, read “Speaker Connection Precaution s” on page 9 ca refully before performing the procedure belo w .
En- 12 Connecting Antennas This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The receiv er won’ t pick up any radio signals if no antenna is connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
En- 13 Connecting Y our Components Connecting A V components • Before making any A V con nections, read th e manuals supplied with your A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve comp leted and double-checked all A V con nections.

En- 17 T urning On the Receiver Press the [ ON/ST ANDBY] button. Alternativ ely , press the remo te contr oller’ s [ ] button. The receiver comes on, and the display lights up. T o turn the recei ver off, press the [ ON/ST ANDBY] butto n, or press the remote controller’ s [ ] button.

En- 19 Enjoying A udio Sources —Continued Y ou can adjust the brightness of the display . Press the remote controller’ s [DIMMER] button repeatedly to select: dim, dimmer , or normal brightness. W ith the sleep timer , you can se t the receiv er so that it turns off automatically after a specified period.
En- 20 Enjoying A udio Sources —Con tinued Press the remote controller’ s [A UDIO] button repeatedly to select DIRECT . The setting will change as follo ws each time you press the [A UDIO] button. When the DIRECT functi on is off, the tone controls can be used to adjust the sound, and the DIRECT indicator goes off.
En- 21 Recor ding Unless y ou have the full consent of the copyright ho lder , copyright laws pr ohibit using your recordings for an ything other than personal enj oyment! This section explains ho w to record th e selected input source to a component with recording capability , and how to record audio and video from dif ferent sources.
En- 22 Listening to the Radio W ith the b uilt-in tuner , you can enjoy AM and FM radio stations. 1 Use the receiver’ s [INP UT] selector , or the remote contr oller’ s INPUT SELECTOR buttons to select AM or FM. In this example, FM has been selected .

En- 25 Listening to the Radio —Continued RDS only works in ar eas where RDS broadcasts are av ailable. When tuned into an RDS station, the RDS indicator appears. ■ What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data em bedded in FM radio signals.

Can’t turn on the receiver • Make sure that the power cord is plugged into the electric outlet properly . • Unplug the po wer cord from the electric outlet, wait 5 seconds or more, then plug it in ag ain.
