En-11 Connections Connecting the AV Receiver Connecting the Speaker Ca bles The following illustration sh ows how to connect the speakers to each pair of terminals. ■ Push-type speaker terminals Strip 3/8" to 1/2" (10 to 12 mm) of insulation from the ends of the speaker cables, and twist the bar e wires tightly, as shown.
Connections En-12 Speaker Configuration The following table indicates the channels you should use depending on the number of speakers that you have. No matter how many speakers you use, a powered subwoofer is recommended for a really p owerful and solid bass.
Connections En-13 Speaker Connecti on Precautions Read the following before connecting your speakers: • You can connect speakers with an impedance of between 6 and 16 ohms. If you use speakers with a lowe r impedance, and use the amplif ier at high volume levels for a long period of time, the built-in am p protection circuit may be activated.
Connections En-14 Connecting AV components a • Before making any AV connections, read the manuals supplied with your AV components. • Don’t connect the power cord until you’ve completed and double-checked all AV connections. • Push plugs in all the way to make good connections (l oose connections can cause noise or malfunctions).

Connections En-18 This section explains how to connect the s upplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna. The AV receiver won’t pick up any radio signals without any antenna connected, so you must c onnect the antenna to use the tuner.

Advanced Operations En-37 Menu HDMI Input If you connect a video compone nt to an HDMI input, you must assign that input to an i nput selector. For example, if you connect your Blu-ray Disc/DVD player to HDMI IN 2 , you must assign “ HDMI2 ” to the “ BD/DVD ” input selector.

En-46 Controlling Other Components iPod/iPhone Playback via Onkyo Dock RI Dock With the RI Dock, you can easily play the music of your iPod/iPhone, or watch the sl ideshows and videos of your iPod/iPhone on a TV.
Controlling Other Components En-47 By pressing the REMOTE MODE button that’s been programmed with the remote control code for your Dock, you can control your iPod/iPhone in the Dock with the buttons described further in this section. See “Entering Remote Control Codes” for details on entering a remote control code ( ➔ page 48 ).

Appendix En-58 Using an RIHD- compatible TV, Player, or Recorder p , which stands for Re mote Interactiv e over HDMI, is the name of the system control function found on Onkyo components. The AV rece iver can be used with CEC (Consumer Elec tronics Control), which allows system control over HDMI and is part of the HDMI standard.
