7 En • This player can playback A VCHD format discs. These discs are normally recorded and used in camcorders. • The A VCHD format is a high definition digital video camera format. • The MPEG-4 A VC/H.264 format is capable of com- pressing images at higher efficiency than that of the con- ventional image compressing format.

12 En ■ Ad ditional Inf ormation for HDMI • When you connect a HDMI or D VI compatible de vice, make sure of the follo wing: - T ry switching of f the HDMI/D VI de vice and this player . Ne xt, switch on the HDMI/D VI de vice and leav e it for around 30 seconds, then switch on this player .
13 En Connect the VIDEO OUTPUT (VIDEO) jack on the player to the video in jack on the TV using a video cable. Connect the left and right ANALOG A UDIO OUTPUT jacks of the player to the audio left and right IN jacks on the TV using the audio cables.

15 En Connect the player’ s DIGIT AL A UDIO OUTPUT jack to the corresponding in jack (CO AXIAL) on your A V receiv er . Use an optional digi tal audio cable. Y ou will need to activ ate the player’ s digital output. See “ A UDIO Menu” ( ➔ 20 – 21 ).
16 En Connecting to y our Home Network This player can be connected to a local area networ k (LAN) via the ETHERNET port on the rear panel. By connecting the unit to a broadband home netw ork, you hav e access t o services such as BD-LIVE interactivity .
17 En Notes on Netw ork Connection: • Many netw ork connection problems during set up can often be f ixed b y re-setting the router or modem. After connecting the player to the home network, quickly power of f and/or di sconnect the power cable of the home network router or cable m odem.
18 En USB device connection This unit can play movie, mu sic and photo files contained in the USB de vice. Note • This unit suppo rts USB flash memory formatted in F A T16, F A T32 and NTFS when accessing files (music, photo, movie). Howe ver , for BD-LIVE, only F A T16 an d F A T32 formats ar e supported.
19 En Settings Y ou can change the settings of the player in the “ Setup ” menu. TV Aspect Ratio Select a TV aspect ratio opti on according to your TV type. ` 4:3 Letter Box : Select when a standard 4:3 TV is connected. Displays theatrical images with masking bar s above and below the picture.
20 En 1080p Displa y Mod e When the resolution is set to 1080p, select “ 24 Hz ” for smooth presentation of film ma terial (1080p/24 Hz) with a HDMI-equipped display compatible with 1080p/24 Hz input. Note • When you select “ 24 H z ”, you may experience so me picture dis- turbance when the video switches video and film material.
21 En DRC (Dynamic Range Control) When a titl e encoded in Dolb y Digital or Dolby Digi tal Plus is playing back, you ma y wish to compress the dynamic range of the audio out put (the dif ference between the loudest sounds and the qui etest ones). This allo ws you to listen to a movie at a lo wer volume without losing clar- ity of sound.

26 En On-Screen displa y Y ou can display and adjust various information an d set- tings about the content. W E R Y Note • If no b utton is pressed for a few seco nds, the on-screen display disappears. • A title number cannot be selected on some discs.
27 En W E R Y Note • Some discs allow you to change subtitle selections only via the disc menu. If this is the case, press POP UP MENU/MENU or TO P M E N U button and choose the appropriate subtitle from the selections on the disc menu.
28 En Enjo ying BD-LIVE This unit allows you to enjoy f unctions such as picture-in- picture, secondary audio and V irtual pa ckages, etc., with BD-V ideo supporting BONUSVIEW (BD-R OM version 2 Profile 1 v ersion 1.1/ Final Standard Profile). Secondary video and audio can be play ed from a disc com patible with the picture-in-picture function.
29 En Pla ying a mo vie file Y ou can play movie files contain ed in a disc/USB device. Note • The file requirements are described on page 6 . • Y ou can use various playback fu nctions ( ➔ 23 – 25 ). Y If a movie f ile name an d the subtitle f ile name are the same, subtitle f ile is pl ayed automatically when playing the movie file.

32 En Maintenance Notes on Discs Handling Discs Do not touch the playback side of the disc. Hold the disc by the edges so that f ingerprints do not get on the surface. Nev er stick paper or tape on the disc. Storing Discs After playing, store the disc in its case.
