Introduction 1 Intr oduction This user’s guide describes how to install and conf igure the Internet Fax and network prin ter/scanner kit into a f ax machine. After instal ling this kit, the following fun ctions are available for use: • Print through a local area network (LAN).

Internet Fax 3 Internet F ax Internet fax settings General Before us ing Internet Fax, cons ult with the netw ork administrator about correct netwo rk settings. There are two types of setting values fo r Internet Fax, which ar e as fol- low s: • Data stored on the fax mach ine.
4 Internet Fax and Network Print/Network Scanner Settings Internet Fax settings can be viewed by selecti ng MENU, then 11:SETUP and then 7:LAN OPTIONS. When 7:LAN OPTIONS is selected, t he display shows user func tions 80 to 93. User functions 80 to 82 are for network printing.
Internet Fax 5 User functions 83:POP INTERVAL - Intervals when the fax machine polls the server for any incoming e-mail (POP reception). 0 to 60 minutes, adjustable by the minute. If set to 0, no automatic polling is carried out. 84:DELETE POP MSG - Whether or n ot to delete received e -mail from the mail server.

Internet Fax 7 87:HEADER PRINT - E-mail header print setting. OFF: Do not print header TYPE1: Prin t SUBJECT/FR OM/TO TYPE2: Print all header information This setting is only vali d when the TEXT Print setting is ON. 88:CODING MOD E - Coding mode for TIFF file images sent by I nternet Fax.

Maximum leng th: 64 characters. • 12:DSN (Deli very Status Notif icati on) - If a m ail server that has a DSN function recei ves a message, it will send a deli very conf irmation to the sender of the message.

Internet Fax 17 Tiff im ages InternetFAX converts scanned documents into a si ngle TIFF-format fi le and sends it by e-mail. Th is machine can transmit at a resolution o f 200 x 100 dpi in STD mode, 200 x 200 dpi in FI N E mode, 30 0 x 300 dpi or 600 x 600 dpi in EX-F INE and 200 x 200 dp i in PHOTO mode.
18 Internet Fax and Network Print/Network Scanner Internet fax reception This fax machine automatically connects to the s erver to receive mail according to the POP INTERVAL TIME setting. If there is mail on the server, reception will start auto matically.

20 Internet Fax and Network Print/Network Scanner Receiving Tiff file This fax machine receives mail messages with Tiff format attachmen ts in the mail server and prints out the attached files. This fax machine can print out Tiff files i n the Simple Mode defi ned in ITU-T T.
Internet Fax 21 To print out the information in t he mail header, set TEXT PRINT to ON. This fax machine can print only plain format text that has not been encoded by Base6 4 etc. If e-mail messages or text-file attachments have been encode d, printout s may be garb l ed.

Internet Fax 23 E-mail to fax Images received by e-mail can be f o rwarded by Intern et F ax to any G3/ G4 fax machine. Intern et Fax carries out this operation using SMTP reception.

Internet Fax 29 The LCD shows message OPTION BOARD ERROR. • A netw ork card I/F error has occurred - tu rn the power of f and on again to reco ver . A communication error o ccurs during reception , and a report is printed out. • The recei ved f ile is not of a format sup ported b y this machine.

Network Printing 31 Netw ork Printing Printi ng documents To print docume nts on this fax m achine via the LAN, the app ropriate soft- ware needs to be installed from the supplied CD-ROM and make th e cor- rect settings for the environment.

Network Printing 33 3. Conf igure network card. When pri nting fr om Window s 3.1, a NetWare S erver is required as Win- dows 3. 1 is not a network operatin g system. Printin g via LPR from Wi n- dows 3.1 conn ected to the net work with other commercial TCP/IP protocols , is not assured.

Network Printing 35 T r oublesh ooting Option boar d error When OPTION BOAR D ERROR is displayed on the fax machine LCD, an error may have been caused at the interface with the network card . In this case, turn off the fax mac hine, check that the ne twork card is correctly installed and power up ag ain.

Appendix A - Operating Instructions 37 Appendix A - Operating Instructi ons General cond itions To use Internet Fax, a networ k card must be installed in this machine and connected to a LAN. Th e network card f or this machine can b e connected to a 10BaseT or 10/ 100baseTX LAN .
