THE RANCH STYLE HOUSE Here the power unit is mounted in the garage. The intake and e xhaust tubing, the only e xposed tubing in the installation, runs up the garage wall and into the attic. The trunk line runs horizontally through the attic from the power unit to the f ar thest inlet location.
THE SPLIT -LEVEL HOUSE Like the tw o-stor y house , the split le vel installation commonly calls f or a two-le v el trunk line. Here, the power unit is located in the garage. The intake tubing runs e xposed up the garage wall and into the g round le vel section's attic.
5 W ORKING WITH PLASTIC TUBING Cutting the T ubing Bef ore you cut a length of tube , accurately measure the length you need. Allow 5/8” of tubing for inserting into fittings and 1 ½” f or placing into fle xible tubing. Cut the plastic tubing with a hacksa w , making sure that the cut is e xactly square.
6 Making a Joint Inser t the tube into the fitting, aligning the two parts as they will be installed. Mar k the tube and the fitting so that y ou can quickly realign the joint. See Figure 7. Apply cement only to the outside of the tube. Dab the cement generously in an inch-wide band.
7 MODEL CF361 & CF361F (For Use with CI370 and 360 Inlets) 3. Ref er to Figure 10. Nail brack et to the side of the stud so that the front edge of the brac ket is flush to the front of the stud. (The brack et ma y also be nailed to the front edge of the stud.
INST ALLING THE TUBING Use the f ollowing installation guidelines when installing tubing. 1. Start tubing installation at far thest inlet and work tow ard the power unit.
9 W ALL INLET INST ALLA TION Model CI370 W all Inlet (CF361 and CF361F Rough-In) 1. Remove the cardboard plaster guard. 2. Ref er to Figure 20. For some drywall or panel construction, the plaster frame will extend be y ond the finished wall. In this case, remo ve plaster fr ame from mounting brac ket b y removing mounting scre ws.

LOCA TING A CCESS KEYS IN EXISTING CONSTR UCTION Unless your home is a r anch-style house where a single trunk line can r un directly through the attic or basement, y ou should first inv estigate y our house to find the ke y to running your tubing from le vel to le vel.
INST ALLING THE INLET TUBING When your planning is complete , you will ha v e to determine where all the inlets and the power unit will be located. Y ou hav e also mapped out the location of y our trunk line and f ound the access you need to run vertical tubing from one le vel of y our house to another le v el.
Drilling the Access Holes Once you are certain that you’ve located the center of the wall directly abo ve the inlet location, use a 2½” hole saw to cut the access hole through the wall plate or header and into the wall ca vity . (A 1/2” drill is recommended.
Whate ver the case , inser t the completed inlet line into the access hole and thread it down inside the w all. The inlet line should be long enough so that it e xtends abov e the joists in the attic; at this height, it can be easily connected to the branch and truck lines .
Use an awl or icepic k to punch pilot holes where you mark ed the two hole locations. Now , dr ill tw o 3⁄8” diameter holes, using the pilot holes as the centers. Locate and drill these holes e xactly as marked with the template. Also drill four pilot holes in the f our corners of the marked area.
Hold the assembly in place f or a fe w minutes as the cement sets; allow 5 minutes f or the cement to completely dr y . Now , strip the ends of the two low v oltage wires, and then connect the wires to the screw terminals on the back of the inlet cov er .
Inser t the bottom scre w into the inlet cov er and through the other par ts . Give the screw a few tu rn s un til it f ir mly engages in the mounting plate.
5. Attach the lo w v oltage wires to terminal screws on back of wall inlet (Figure 35). If using 361 Rough-in with CI370 Series Inlets, ref er to instructions on page 7, step 3, shown in Figure 10. 6. Inser t w all inlet into brack et and secure with the two screws pro vided (Figure 36).
FLOOR INLET INST ALLA TION IN NEW & EXISTING CONSTR UCTION Model CI370 or 360 Series Inlets (361 Rough-In) 1. Ref er to Figures 41 and 42. After floor inlet location has been selected, cut a 3 1 ⁄ 16 " x 2 9 ⁄ 16 " square hole in floor .
21 ORIGINAL V A CP AN ™ INST ALLA TION INSTR UCTIONS NO TE: Please read instr uctions prior to installation. INST ALLA TION TIPS • Plan the location of your ORIGINAL V ACP AN to be conv eniently located f or s weeping clean-ups . • Also consider ease of access of vacuum tube piping connections during installation.
IN W ALL INST ALLA TIONS Ref er to Figure 47. • ORIGINAL V ACP AN can be installed between wall studs in side walls . • ORIGINAL V ACP AN should be located tight to one side in stud space. • Once the ORIGINAL V ACP AN location is determined, cut a 6¾” long x 1¾” high slot in the wall and baseboard to accept the ORIGINAL V ACP AN.
23 ORIGINAL V A CUSWEEP ® INLET V AL VE INST ALLA TION INSTR UCTIONS CONNECTION FR OM B ELO W Ref er to Figure 48. 1. T ur n the po wer to the v acuum unit OFF . Measure distance (X) between the kic kplate f ace and the inside edge of the cabinet. Then, add 2¾” to the measured distance.
24 CONNECTION FR OM BEHIND Ref er to Figure 49. 1. T ur n the po wer to the v acuum unit OFF . Choose a location under the cabinet f or the V acuSweep ® Inlet V alve so that it can be connected to the centr al vacuum pipe. Measure distance (X) between the kic kplate f ace and the inside edge of the cabinet.
25 wire/string to temporarily hold the pipe and elbow in place, insert the V acuSweep ® Inlet V alv e into the opening at the base of the wall and elbo w . DO NO T glue this connection (Designed f or friction fit). See Figure 50-5. 6. Remov e the wire/string.
Once you ha v e installed all your inlets , y ou can complete the network of tubing that connects your inlets to the power unit. This network consists of the f ollowing parts: 90° Elbows – Used for connecting the inlet lines to the branch lines. Also used f or making smooth 90° turns in branch lines or tr unk lines .
Joining Straight Lengths of T ubing Both branch lines and the trunk lines may require lengths of tubing longer than those 8´ sections supplied. Use stop couplings to join two straight lengths of tubing. Inser t one end of the tubing into the stop coupling; join the second length of tubing into the other end of the stop coupling.
Circumventing an Obstac le Where ver possib le the branch lines should connect to the trunk line in straight paths. The f e wer turns in a tubing system, the more efficient air flow . Accordingly , you should locate the inlets to av oid zig-zags in the branch lines .
Connecting the Low V oltage Wiring Ideally , you will run the wiring and make all the wiring connections after you ha v e completed the tubing system. Of course, the inlet wiring must be run at the time the inlet tubing is threaded through the walls .
Attach the tubing to the joists or ceiling with either perf orated metal or suppor t str apping (suppor t strapping is av ailab le from NuT one). Make all br anch line connections in the same wa y y ou would an attic installation. Make sure that all branch lines enter the trunk line at an angle that is at least lev elled with the trunk line.
