AXIS 8 ® AXIS 8 PREMIUM TABLETOP CD PLAYER Congratulations, you are now the ow ner of one of the most tech nically advanced pieces of DJ equipment ever developed. The AXIS 8 is the result of many years of development a nd se veral NUMARK exclusive patents.
AXIS 8 SETUP AND CONNECTIONS Typical connection with a mixer is illustrated below . 1. Find a level sur face free of excess ive vibration to place your equipment 2. Connect the lin e output connections us ing the supplied audio cable from t he CD Player t o the line inputs of your mix er.
AXIS 8 FEATURES 1. PLAY/STUTTER- To start the mus ic from the initial cue point. 2. PAUSE- To pause the music. 3. CUE- To move the mus ic to the cue point and preview the selection. 4. WHEEL- Used for various fu nctions such as cueing, scratching, pitc h bend, searc hing, and eff ect control 5.

Typically it is recommended that the CD player is powered on before amp lifiers and off after amplifiers to avoid an audio spike to be sent throu gh your equipme nt.
AXIS 8 BASIC OPERATIONS Open/Close: Press to load or eject the disc. The drawer will aut omatically close to protect the tray from accidental damage while open. NOTE: Tray will not open if the disc is in play. In order to program the automatic close time press and hold followed by .
AXIS 8 SETTING CUE POINTS PLAY and CUE Pressing the “PLAY” button starts the disc. Pressing the “CUE” button will reset the disc to the last place where the disc was started.
AXIS 8 ADJUSTING PITCH Pitch Range: actives the pitch slider and adjusts the amount of control the pitch slider has on the overall speed of music. On depression of will toggle the slid er on and off. Range adjustments of 6, 12, 25, and 100% can be achieved by holding down and then pressing to cycle through the range options.
AXIS 8 BPM: This button is used for resetting the downbeat and also re-calibrating the BPM. The Beatkeeper is considered by many to be the most accurate automatic beat counter on the market today , however, it occasionally may have t rouble determining the correct BPM.
AXIS 8 LOOPING OPERATIONS LOOPING A loop is any area of a CD that you choose to repeat with no breaks. On the AXIS 8 two seamless loops are possible. LOOP IN The “LOOP IN” point is where you wish for t he loop to start. The initial “CUE” point of the CD is also the default “LOOP IN” point for both loops or “Hot Start” point.
AXIS 8 MOVING LOOP POINTS The “ LOOP IN ” point can be moved while the music is playing just by pressing at the new desired point. The next time “LOOP OUT” is reached the CD will return to this new “LOOP IN” point. If “LOOP IN” is press after the “LOOP OUT” point it will cl ear the “LOOP OUT” point.
AXIS 8 SPECIAL EFFECTS Your AXIS 8 is equip ped with some of m ost advanced effec ts on the market today. To fully take advant age of these effects it’s help ful to practice and un derstand their use.
AXIS 8 A.D. (Artificial-Disseminatio n) – Reduces the bit r ate of the mus ic creating inc reasing distor tion with intens ity. CHOP – This effect works best when the Beatkee per™ is properly aligned. Chop breaks up the music by t urning the volume on and off based upon t he BPM of the Be atkeeper™.
AXIS 8 PROGRAM FUNCTIONS PLEASE READ!!!! This button provides several programmable functions depending upon the combination of buttons used. Track Sequence Programming - Depress while the unit is stopped and “ ” will light. Select each track to be programmed then press between selections.
AXIS 8 RELAY PLAY This mode will be operational only when 2 units are connected via a relay cable. 1. Insert CDs into both of the units. 2. We recommend putting both sides in SINGLE play mode while learning this function. 3. Press the “RELAY” button on one unit to activate.
AXIS 8 CUE/LOOP POINT STORAGE AND RECALL To SAVE Cue and Loop points on the c urrent CD: • CD should still in the drawer with cue and loop points set. • Press + . • Cue points are stored and LCD shows "CUE STORE" for 1 second. • If MIDI OUT goes to another CD player’s MIDI IN, th e cue point is stored on the other CD player.
AXIS 8 UPGRADING YOUR UNIT This unit contains the latest software available at the time of manufacturing. Our engineering staff will be working hard to c onstantly improve and offer additional features in the future. The unit software has been designed to be easily updateable by you throug h supplied CD updates from Numark.
AXIS 8 MIDI IN-OUT MIDI – stands for musical instrument digital interface. Basicall y this means you can hook up 2 MIDI compatible devices and they wi ll talk to ea ch other.
AXIS 8 HOOKING UP A MIDI KEYBOA RD: attach the MIDI output of the keyboard to the MIDI input of the CD Player. Set your keyboard to transmit on Channel 6. AXIS 8 BEFORE SWITCHING OFF THE POWER: When you have fin ished using th e CD player, be sure t hat the disc tray is closed wit h the “OPEN/CLOSE” button before switchin g off the power.
