14 Chapter 1: System Overview 1 . 1 System Features The ASUS AP130-D5 is a stylish barebone server featuring the ASUS P4B533-M motherboard. The server supports the Intel ® Pentium ® 4 478/ Northwood processor , and includes the latest I/O, audio, and video technologies through the chipsets embedded on the motherboard.

The following picture shows the cable connectors and the devices that you connect to the ports. 20 Chapter 2: Hardware Setup 2. 1 Remove the Chassis Cover Unlock the side cover T wo thumbscrews secure the removable side panel cover . T urn these screws counter-clockwise to release the cover . The screws are attached to the cover . Do pull out the screws.

The edge with the external ports goes to the rear part of the chassis. Motherboard Screws Place eight (8) screws in the holes indicated by circles to secure the motherboard to the chassis.
22 Chapter 2: Hardware Setup 2.3 Inst all a CPU The 478-pin Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) socket on the P4B533-M motherboard supports an Intel Pentium 4 processor . This section tells you how to install a CPU. Refer to the motherboard user guide for more information.
ASUS AP130-D5 Pedestal Server 23 Unlock the CPU Socket Unlock the socket by pressing the lever sideways then lifting it up to a 90 ° -100 ° angle. Insert the CPU 1. Position the CPU above the socket such that its marked corner matches the base of the socket lever .
24 Chapter 2: Hardware Setup 1. Align and snap the hooks of a retention bracket into the holes of the retention module base. Make sure that the arrow on the bracket points inward. 2. Follow step 1 to install the other bracket. 3. When attached to the module base, flip the brackets sideways to allow enough room for the fan heatsink assembly .
ASUS AP130-D5 Pedestal Server 25 4. Orient the fan heatsink assembly with the fan cable nearest the CPU fan connector on the motherboard (marked CPU_F AN). 5. Carefully place the fan heatsink assembly on top of the CPU. Make sure that the heatsink perfectly fits the retention module base.
26 Chapter 2: Hardware Setup 2.4 Inst all Sys tem Memor y The motherboard has two Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets that support up to 2GB system memory using PC2100/ PC1600 DDR DIMMs. Install a DIMM 1. Unlock a DIMM socket by pressing the retaining clips outward.

28 Chapter 2: Hardware Setup Install the HDD 1. Insert the HDD into the cage (label side up) until the holes on the HDD align with the holes on the cage. 2. Secure the HDD with four screws (two on each side). 3. Replace the cage into the chassis. Connect the Cables 1.
