26 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Using the F lash The flash has a range of 0.5-6.3 m (19.7 in.-20 ft. 8.0 in.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum op tical zoom applied, the range is 0.5- 3.7 m (19.7 in.-12 ft. 1.7 in.
27 Using the Flash Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode B The W (Off) Indicator Note the following when lighting is poor and the flash is off ( W ): • Place the camera on a flat, level surface or use a tripod (recommended). Turn vibration re duction ( A 86) off when using a tripod.
28 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode T ak ing Pictures with the S elf-timer The camera is equipped with a ten-second timer for self-portrait s. When using the self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Turn vibr ation reduction ( A 86) off when using a tripod.
29 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as clo se as 15 cm (5.9 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light enti re subject at distances of less than 50 cm (19.7 in.). 1 Press p (macro mode).
30 Basic Photography and Playback: Easy Auto Mode Exposure C ompensation Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value suggested by the camera to make pictures brighter or darker. 1 Press o (exposure compensation). The exposure compensa tion menu is displayed.
31 Auto Mode Auto Mode Shooting in the Auto Mode In the A (auto) mode, you can set image mode, white balance, continuous shooting and color opti ons in the shooting menu , and take pictures. 1 Press the shooting mode button in shooting mode. The shooting-mode selection menu will be displayed.

B Panorama Assist Flash mode ( A 26), self-timer ( A 28 ), macro mode ( A 29) and exposure compensation ( A 30) settings cannot be adjusted after the first picture is taken.
40 One-touc h Portra it Mode One-touch Portrait Mode Shooting in the One - T ouch Portrait Mode Choosing H from the shoot ing-mode selection menu enters the one-touch portrait mode for portrait shots. The follo wing features are automatically activated: • Portrait: The portrait subject stands out clearly.

43 More on Playbac k T ak ing a Clos er Look: Pla yback Zoom Pressing g ( i ) during full-frame playback mode ( A 24) zooms the current picture. While the image is zoomed in, the zoom ratio is display ed in the m onitor . The following operations can be performed while pictures are zoomed in.
44 More on Playbac k Editing Pic tures Use the COOLPIX L15 to e dit pictures in-camera and store them as separate files ( A 96). The editing features described below are available. C Picture Editing • Pictures taken at an image mode setting of [16:9] ( A 67) can not be edited .
45 Editing Pictures More on Playbac k Enhancing Brightness and Contrast: D-Lighting D-Lighting can be used to create copies with enhanced brightness and contrast, brightening dark portions of a picture.
46 Editing Pictures More on Playbac k Creating a Cropped Copy: Crop This function is only available when u is displayed in the moni tor with playbac k zoom ( A 43) enabled. Cropped copies are stor ed as separate files. 1 Press g ( i ) in full-frame playback mode to zoom in on the image.
47 Editing Pictures More on Playbac k g Resizing Pictures: Small Picture Create a small copy of the cu rrent picture. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. The following sizes are available. 1 Select the desired picture from full-frame ( A 24) or thumbnail ( A 42) playback mode and pre ss d .
48 Movies Movies Recor ding Movies To shoot movies with s ound recorded via the built-in micropho ne, select shooting mode and follow the steps below. 1 Press the shooting mode button in shooting mode to display the shooting-mode selection menu and use the multi se lector to choose D and press k .
49 Movies The Movie Menu [Movie options] setting can be ch anged from the movie menu. Press d in movie mode to display the movie menu and us e the multi selector to modify and apply settings. Selecting Movie Options The movie menu offers the options shown below.
50 The Movie Menu Movies Stop-Motion Movies Take a number of still pictures, at no specified interval, and join them for recording as a movie. Use to create a mo vie that simulates claymation. 1 Use the multi selector to choose [Movie options] > [Stop-motion movie] and press k .
51 Movies Movie Pla yback In full-frame playback mode ( A 24), movies are recognized by the movie mode icon. To play a movie, display it in full-frame playba ck mode and press k . The icon for the movie mode differs according to t he movie option ( A 49) selected in shooting.
52 Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Connecting to Televisions, Computers and Printers Connecting to a TV Connect the camera to a television usin g the supplied A/V cable to play back pictures on the television. 1 Turn the camera off.
53 Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Connecting to a Computer When the camera is connected to a co mputer using the supp lied USB cable, pictures recorded with the camera can be copied (transferred) to the computer for storage u sing the Niko n Transf er software .
54 Connect ing to a Comp uter Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Transferring Pictur es from the Camera to a Computer 1 Start the computer to which Nikon Transfer was installed. 2 Turn off the camera. 3 Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
55 Connect ing to a Comp uter Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers 5 Transfer pictures when Nikon Transfer has finished loading. Click [Start Transfer] in Nikon T ransfer. At the default setting, all pict ures are transfe rred to the co mputer.

58 Connecting to a Printer Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Connecting the Camera a nd Printer 1 Turn off the camera. 2 Turn on the printer. Check printer settings. 3 Connect the camera to the printer using the supplied USB cable. 4 Turn on the camera.
59 Connecting to a Printer Connecting to Televi sion s, Computers and Printers Printing Pictures One at a Time After connecting the camera to the printer correctly ( A 58), print pictures by following the procedure below. 1 Use the multi selector to choose the desired picture and press k .

67 Shooting Options: The Shooting Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus A Image Mode Pictures taken with a digital camera are re corded as image files. The size of th e files, and with it the number of i mages that can be recorded, depends on the size and quality of the images.
68 Shooting Options: The Shooting Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus C Number of Exposure s Remaining The followin g table lists the approxima te number of pictures that ca n be stored in internal memory and on a 256 MB memory card.

70 Shooting Options: The Shooting Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus Preset Manual Preset manual is used with mixed lighting or to compensate for light sources with a strong color ca st (for example, to make pictures taken under a lamp with a red shade look as though they had been taken under white light).

84 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus e Monitor Settings Choose whether or not to di splay informat ion in the monitor, and set the monitor brightness. Photo Info The following display options are available. See “The Monitor” ( A 6) for information on indicat ors in the monitor.
85 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus f Date Imprint Date and time are imprinted on pictures. Da te can be pri nted from printers that do not support the date imprinting ( A 64) . At settings other than [Off], the icon for the current setting is displayed in the monitor ( A 6).
86 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus g Vibration Reduction Vibration reduction effectively corrects blur, caused by slight hand movement known as camera shake, that commonly o ccurs when shooting with zoom applied or at slow shutter speeds.
87 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus h AF Assist Enable or disable AF-assist illumination. i Sound Settings Adjust the following sound settings. Auto (defaul t setting) AF-assist illumination will be u sed to assist the focus opera tion when the subject is poorly lit.
88 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus k Auto Off To reduce the drain on the batteries, t he monitor turns off and the camera enters standby mode ( A 13), if no operat ions are performe d for a certain period of time.
89 Basic Camera Setup: The Setup Menu Shooting, Playback and Setup Menus l Format Mem ory/ m Format Card Use this option to format the in ternal memory or a memory card. Formatting the Internal Memory To format the internal memory, remove the me mory card from the camera.

Pop-up Menu * For the default se ttings for the scene mo de ( A 32) and one-touch portrait mode ( A 40), see the description for each mode.
