14 Fi rs t Ste ps Basic Setup The first tim e the camera is tur ne d on, a language-selection dialog will be displayed in the monitor. Follow the steps below to c hoose a language and set t he time and date.

19 St ep 2 - Fram e th e Pi ctu re Basic P hotography Digital Zoom In digital zoom, data from the camera's image sensor ar e processed digitally, enlarging the cente r portion of the picture to fill the frame. U nlike opt ical z oom, digital zoom does not increase the amount of detail visible in the picture .
20 Basic P hotography Step 3 - Focus and Shoot Focus Press t he shutter-re lease button halfw ay to set focus a nd exposure. In P mode, the camer a will automa tic ally foc us on the subjec t at the cent er of th e fram e. Focus and exposure will lock while th e shutter-re lease button is pre ssed halfway.

Sensitivity ( ISO Equivalenc y) "Sensitivity" is a m ea sure of how quickly the camera responds to light. Your Nikon digital camera normally has a s ens itivity roughly equivalent to film with an ISO 50 rating.
