Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus Chapter 2 - Assembly 2.2 Assembly (continued) Inser t your rst drive into the chassis of the Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus. Place the rear of the driv e (the end with the SA T A and power connection) onto the green bridge board as sho wn.
Place the second har d drive into the enclosure and line up the scr ew holes on the side of the chassis. Using 4 of the large screw s that were in the clear packet y ou removed fr om the chassis of the Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus, fasten the hard driv e to the chassis using the upper screw holes.

3.1 IMPORT ANT INFORMA TION IF Y OU PLAN ON USING Y OUR DRIVE T O BOO T ON A G3, G4, OR G5 SY STEM If you purchased a prec ongured Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus, your new external hard drive has been formatt ed for the Macintosh as a Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) volume, using the GUID* P ar tition T able scheme.
3.3 F ormatting your Guar dian MA Ximus on a Macintosh with Mac OS X Click on the “Initialize” butt on. Select the device with no volumes attached to it; in this picture, that w ould be the 640 GB Newer T echnology device. Click on the picture of the drive ic on next to the text.
Once you ’ve selected the Newer T echnology device , you will notice the abov e change in the Disk Utility application. Click on the “Partition” tab in this picture . Y ou then need to choose how many partitions you wish your Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus to have .
Choose a name for the volume . Y ou will need to repeat this step f or each volume if you selected multiple par titions. Click Apply to nish. ➄ ➅ Y ou will be asked to conrm that you wish to.

Chapter 3 - F ormatting 3.5 F ormatting your Guar dian MA Ximus on W indow s 2000 and later Instructions for other operating systems can be found at h ttp://ww w .newertech.com/format . ➀ With the drive c onnected to the computer and power ed on, right click on the “My Computer” icon and selec t “Man - age” from the menu.
➃ Your drive will ap - pear similar to how Disk 1 does below. Notice that the space on the lower right reads as “Unallo - cated.” Right click in this space and choose “New Partition.” ➄ The “New P ar tition Wiz - ard” will launch. Click “Next ” to continue.
➇ If you like, you can specify the driv e letter designation f or your new drive. Other wise, one will automatically be as - signed. Click “Nex t. ” ➈ Before y ou can use the drive, it must be f ormatted. On most systems running W indows 2000 or later , it is advisable to specify the le system as NTFS.
➀➀ Once you have nished with the for - matting wizard, y ou will see that your new drive (represent ed as “Disk E” in this case) will display a message of “F ormatting. ” This should only take a couple of minutes if you chose the quick format option.
