ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 8 1 Introduction 1.1 Purpose of this Manual This manual describe s how to operat e the ASI to IP Gateway, hereafter referred to as the ASI-IP-GTW. It also describes how to install and maintain the unit. A detailed technical descrip tion of the functionality of the unit is given as part of this docu ment.

ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 12 1.5 Guided Tour 1.5.1 The User Interface All connectors are provided at th e rear panel. Configuration and monitoring of the unit is perfo rmed via a FLASH-based WEB interface using a standard WEB browser such a s Internet Explorer.

ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 15 2 Installing the Equipment 2.1 Introduction 2.1.1 Read this first! The ASI-IP-GTW must be hand led carefully and thoughtfully to p revent safety hazards and damage. Ensure that the perso nnel designated to install the unit have the approp riate skills and knowledge.

Alternati vely, during a lightning storm or whenever it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the supp ly outlet and disconnect the ou tput equipment.

The ASI-IP-GTW is designed to be stacked in 19"racks without ventilation pa nels between. In systems with stacked units, it may be required to use forced-air cooling to reduce the operating ambient temperature.

For detailed specifications of the different interfaces, please refer to Chapter 0. The only application requir ed on the computer to use this interface is a WEB browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Opera) and FLASH player 7.

ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 36 3.5.5 Ping The ping page can be used to check for connectivity be tween devices. It is especially useful to ping the receiving data port from the IP transmitter to see if the receiver can be reached. Figure 14 shows the Ping page with its parameters.

ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 40 Keep 204 bytes: Tick this box to transparently transmit all 204 b ytes of the incoming ASI transport stream, if present. When only 188 byte packets are received or the box is un checked, only 188 bytes of each transport stream packet is transmitted.
ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 41 Type of service (TOS): Enter Type of Service pa rameter as a byte value to be set in the Type-of-Service (T OS) field in the IP header as specified in RFC-791. This parameter is used for Class-of-Service p rioritization.

Latency required: This field is calculated from the ‘Max frames delay’ field and the current total bitrate to show the minimum d elay needed by the FEC engine to fully utilize the incoming FEC streams.

Rate Mode: This parameter is used to select the preferred algorithm to use to find an initial bitrate for a received data stream.

Pad with NULL packets: Checking this means that the unit, when in VBR rate mode, will pad the output stream with NULL packets up to the entered max bitrate.

ASI-IP-GTW User's Manual Page 58 4 Options This chapter describes functionality and operating instructions for various addit ional product opti ons. 4.1 1PPS/10MHz interface modules In order to achieve exact bitrate contro l for use in SFN networks, the ASI-IP-GTW may be equipped with 1PPS/1 0MHz interface modules.
