Configuring TCP/IP in a Macintosh computer requir es the following: • Y ou must have Open T ranspor t installed, standar d in MacOS 8 and higher and optional in earlier system versions.

T elnet-Based Management 5-3 • If you connect a PC with Microsoft Windows, you can use a Windows T elnet application or simply r un T elnet from the Star t menu. • If you connect a Macintosh computer r unning Classic Mac OS, you can use the NCSA T elnet program supplied on the Netopia CD.

Easy Setup 6-3 The following steps will get you up and r unning quickly: 1. Open a T elnet session to 192.168.1.1 to bring up the Main Menu. If you don't know how to do this, see “Connecting through a T elnet Session” on page 5-2 . The Main Menu appears.
6-4 Getting Started Guide 1. W AN Ethernet Configuration 1. Enable PPP over Ethernet is Of f by default. If your ser vice pr ovider uses PPPoE authentication toggle this to On . If you toggle this item to On, the remaining items ar e hidden, and your PPP authentication infor mation is entered on the next scr een.
Easy Setup 6-5 2. Easy Setup Pr ofile The Easy Setup Profile scr een is where you configur e the parameters that control the Netopia 3387W-ENT’s connection to a specific remote destination, usually your ISP or a corporate site.

IP Easy Setup The IP Easy Setup screen is wher e you enter infor mation about your Netopia Router’s: • Ethernet IP addr ess • Ethernet Subnet mask • Domain Name • Domain Name Ser ver IP address • Default gateway IP address Consult with your network administrator to obtain the infor mation you will need.
Easy Setup 6-7 5. Type the Primar y Domain Name Ser ver addr ess your ISP gave you. Press Retur n. A new field Secondar y Domain Name Ser ver will appear . If your ISP gave you a secondar y domain name ser ver addr ess, enter it here. Pr ess Retur n until the next field Default IP Gateway is highlighted.
6-8 Getting Started Guide The final step in configuring the Easy Setup T elnet scr eens is to r estar t the Netopia 3387W-ENT, so that the configuration settings take ef fect. 1. Select REST ART DEVICE . A pr ompt asks you to confir m your choice.

7-2 Getting Started Guide Enable Wir eless is set to Ye s by default. When Enable W ireless is disabled ( No ), the Router will not pr ovide or broadcast any wir eless LAN ser vices. • SSID (Wir eless ID): The SSID is pr eset to a number that is unique to your unit.
Wir eless LAN Configuration 7-3 Y ou can then configure: • Channel : (1 through 11) on which the network will br oadcast. This is a frequency range within the 2.4Ghz band. Channel selection depends on government r egulated radio fr equencies that var y from r egion to region.
7-4 Getting Started Guide The pull-down menu for enabling WEP of fers thr ee settings: Of f , On - Automatic , and On - Manual . Y ou are str ongly encouraged to enable WEP encr yption on your wireless LAN. • Of f pr ovides no encr yption on your wir eless LAN data.
Wir eless LAN Configuration 7-5 • On - Manual allows you to enter your own encr yption keys manually . This is a dif ficult process, but only needs to be done once. Avoid the temptation to enter all the same characters. Default Key (#1 – #4): Specifies which key the Router will use to encr ypt transmitted traf fic.
7-6 Getting Started Guide Select Restar t System and press Retur n. Y ou will be pr ompted to confir m this choice. Select CONTINUE and press Retur n. The router will r eboot and your settings will be enabled. This completes your setup. For more advanced featur es, refer to the Fir mware User Guide on your Netopia CD.
