It is iden tical to the MAC ID (Media Access C ontrol ID). It allows each InstantWave product to b e identified on th e wireless network.

InstantWave 11-Mbps Wireless Access Poin t 15 Planning the Netw or k Infrastructu re Net work Types An infrastructure n etwork is formed by s everal stations and one or m ore access points (APs), wi th the stations w ithin a set di stance from the A P or APs.

This tim e th e AP is c onnected to a w ired Ethernet network as a node. In th is configuration the AP operates as a bridg e betw een the wired E ther net ne twor k and t he wire l ess ne twor ks (Fi gure 2 ).

18 InstantWave 11-Mbps W ireless Access Poin t Plannin g an Infrast ructure Network This section explains s ome of the factors you need to cons ider wh en planning an infrastructure network. Settin g up is a two-step process: 1. Install and config ure the I nstantW a ve wireless products.

InstantWave 11-Mbps Wireless Access Poin t 23 Using the AP COMFig T ool The AP COMFig T o o l is a Windows-based utility used to config ure the AP via a COM port conn ection between th e AP and a PC. It provi des the following functions: • Sets AP param eters (e.

26 InstantWave 11-Mbps W ireless Access Poin t AP Alias Nam e Assigns the AP a u nique human -friendly name that allows the AP to be easil y identified. Domain Name (SSID) This is co mmonly called the domain name but is def ined in the IEEE 802. 1 1b wireless standard as SSID.

Encryption: Data encryption provides more secure wireless data communications.
28 InstantWave 11-Mbps W ireless Access Poin t Key Generation - There are two ways to g enerate a security key . The first is by entering any text in the Passphr ase field. Click the Generate button. For 40-bit WEP , it w ill ge nerate four keys, Key 1 , Key 2 , Key 3, an d Key 4 .

Obtain IP from DHCP Automatical ly retrieves an IP address for th e NWH660 from a Dy namic Host Configuration Protocol (DH CP) server .

The Upload button will then beco me enabled. Click Upload . The new firmware will be load ed into the AP’ s flash memory area.

It will automatically ask the DHCP server to assign it an IP address . An ad minis trator can assign a fixed IP to an NWH660 by unchecking the Obtain IP fr om DHCP box (Figure 26).

Y ou can list up to 1000 stations that are to be granted or den ied access. A drop- down box lets you select the method of access control: • Disabled : Disable MAC-address access control.

Si vous n'avez pas encore acheté NDC comm NWH660 c'est un bon moment pour vous familiariser avec les données de base sur le produit. Consulter d'abord les pages initiales du manuel d'utilisation, que vous trouverez ci-dessus. Vous devriez y trouver les données techniques les plus importants du NDC comm NWH660 - de cette manière, vous pouvez vérifier si l'équipement répond à vos besoins. Explorant les pages suivantes du manuel d'utilisation NDC comm NWH660, vous apprendrez toutes les caractéristiques du produit et des informations sur son fonctionnement.
