W hereas AT command s tell a modem what to do, S- registers tell the modem how or when to do it.
4 S-Regist ers CommPlete Communic ations Se rver 47 S3 defines the carriag e return character b y its decimal AS CII code. The defa ult setting is the ^ M charac ter (decimal 13), which is the code for the E NTER key on most keyboards. S3 may b e set for any AS CII character .

The DTR busy -out feature is disabled w hen S36 is set to 0. Normally, when the DTR s ignal from the computer goes ina ctive, the modem goes on-hook after a time that is set b y S25 .
4 S-Regist ers CommPlete Communic ations Se rver 51 Reading and A ssigning S-Registe r V alues Use the S command t o assign a val ue to an S-regist er and t o read an S-regist er ’ s current valu e.
