GB - 5 1. DANGER! TO A VOID SERIOUS INJURY OR DEA TH Read Owner/O perator Manual. Keep children and others away from unit while o perating. Never direct discharge toward other people. Thrown objects can cause injury . Remove objects that could be thrown by the blade.
GB - 6 NO STEP! A lways keep feet away from rotating part s. 3. W ARNING! Do not operate mower unless guards are in operating position or bagger is attached. Always stand clear of discharge area. Do not operate mower unless bagger is attached or guards are in operating position.
GB - 7 Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields wh en operating mower. Moving parts can cut or amputate fi ngers or a hand. Wrap bl ade(s) or wear gloves to service. On m ultiblade mowers, rotation of one blade will cause all blades to rotate.
GB - 8 Always wear a seat belt when operat ing unit using a Rollover Pr otection System (RO PS). Keep all movements on the slope slow and gradual . Do not mak e sudden changes in speed or direction. Avoid st arting or stopping on the slope. If tires lose traction, disengage the blades and proceed slowly st raight down the slope.
GB - 9 NEVER attempt to make any adjustments to unit while engine i s running (except where specifically recommended). St op engine, remove key or spark plug wire and wait for all moving parts to stop before servicing or cleaning. Check parking brake ope ration frequently .
GB - 10 7. Check Engine Crankcase - Check and add oil if needed. See Engine Manual for specifications. 8. Fill Engine Fuel T ank - A dd clean fuel to the fuel tank. IMPORT ANT : Refer to Engine Manual for fuel type. 9. Hardware - Check for loose hardware.

GB - 12 CONTROLS AND FEATURES See Figure 4 for Controls and Features locations. Safety Interlock Syste m Perform the f ollowing tests to ensure the safety interlock system is working properly . If the unit does not perform as stat ed , contact your Ariens dealer for repairs.
GB - 13 Choke Contr ol Push the c hoke lever forward to start a cold engine. Pull the choke lever to the rear when the engine gets warm. Throttle Lever The throttle lever changes the engine speed. Move the throttle lever to F ast (1) to increase engine speed.
GB - 14 Hou r M eter Records total number of hours the engine has been run. IMPORT ANT : Keep a record of Hour Meter readings for recommended Lubrication and Maintenance intervals. NOTE: For accurate readings be sure Ignition Switch is OFF when unit i s not in operation.
GB - 15 3. Bring the steering lever s to neutral. 4. Slow the engine down to about 3/4 speed. 5. T urn ON the P TO switch to engage t he mowe r . IMPORT ANT : Never engage the PTO if the mower is plugged w ith grass or other material. This may cause damage to the electric clutch.
GB - 16 FOR BEST PERFORMANCE Cut grass when it is dry . Keep mow er blades sharp. Keep mower deck properly levelled. Adjust anti-sca lp rollers to prev ent scalping. Do not set height of cut too low . For very tall grass, mow twice. Do not travel too f ast.
GB - 17 Ari en s Dealers will provi de an y servic e which ma y be required t o keep your unit operating at peak efficiency . Should engine serv ice be required, it can be obt ained from a Ariens Dealer or the en gine manufacturer ’s authorized service cent er .
GB - 18 HYDRAULIC FLUID Check Hyd r aulic Flu id Level Check the system with the unit cold and parked on a flat, level surface. Then run the unit for about one minute and recheck the levels . T o Add Hy draulic Fluid: 1. Rem ove the cap from the expansion tank.
GB - 19 5. S pin new oil fi lter onto filter housing until it makes contact. Tighten oil filter another 3/4 turn. 6. Install the filter guards removed in step 2. T ight en the mounting screws to 65 lbf-in (7.3 N•m). 7. Repeat steps 1–6 for the other transaxle.
GB - 20 Sharpen the Mowe r Blades 1. Remove m ower blade from unit. Discard mower blade if: • More than 1/2 in. (1.27 cm) of metal is removed. • Air lift s become eroded. • Blade is bent or bro ken. 2. Sharpen mower blade by removing an equal amount of mat erial from each end of mower blade.
GB - 21 BATTERY Unit comes equipped with a maintenance- free battery that requires no regular maintenance except cleaning the terminals. Remove Battery 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Place seat in the service pos ition (See Maintenance Schedule on page 16).
GB - 22 2. Place battery on be nch or other well- ventilated place. 3. Connect positive (+) lead of charger to positive (+) terminal, and negative (–) lead to negative (–) terminal. 4. Charge battery accordin g to charger and battery manufactu rers ’ instructions.
GB - 23 Aligning the Steering Leve rs (Figure 14) 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Place seat in the service pos ition (See Serv ice Posit ion on page 17). 3. Loosen brake interlock on the same side as steering lever to be adjusted.
GB - 24 ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE STEERING LEVER HANDLES The handles have three height positions (Figure 16). 1. Shut OFF engine. Engage parking brake. Remove the ignition key . 2. Remove the spacer, handle, and eccentric spacer from the steering lever .
GB - 25 PTO Belt Access 1. Properly stop and park unit (See Operation on page 12). 2. Lower the mower. 3. Place seat in m ost rearward position. 4. Remove belt covers. 5. Place foot board in open position (Figure 18). Replacing Mow er Belt s NOTE: Long mower belt must be removed to remove short mower belt.
GB - 26 5. Install new hydro pump belt by positioning belt on sheav es. Put belt onto right hand h ydrostat sheave las t. 6. Replace long mowe r belt on mowe r clutch sheave.
GB - 27 4. Remove the m ower mount ing pins connecting the mower mou nting arms to the deck. 5. Slide mower deck out from under unit. Inst alling the Mower Deck (Fig ure 22) 1. Slide mower deck under unit. 2. Connect mower mounting arms to deck with mower mounting pins.
GB - 28 Adjust Blade Height Level and pitch the mower wi th the height adjusters on each deck lift bracket (Figure 24). Loosen the jam nut on the deck lift bracket bolt about 1/4 turn to reduce clamp load on t he height adjusters.
GB - 29 When storing unit for extended periods of time, remove all fuel from tank and carburetor (run dry). Refer to Engine Manual. Clean and charge the battery .
