GB - 8 T OWING T ow only with a machine that has a hitch designed f or towing. Do not attach tow ed equipment e xcept at the hitch point. F ollow the man uf acturer ’ s recommendations for w eight limits f or tow ed equipment and towing on slopes . NE V ER allow children or others in or on to wed equipment.
GB - 9 Stop and inspect equipment if you strik e an object. Repair , if necessar y , before restarting. Ne ver make adjustments or repairs with the engine running. Mow er blades are sharp and can cut you. Wrap the blade(s) or w ear glov es, and use extr a caution when ser vicing them.
GB - 10 T ravel Speed Selector The Speed Selector controls the unit tra v el in a f orward or re v erse direction when positioned in notch of speed. Speed Selector le v er is used to select neutral (N) or tra v el speeds that pro vide six f orward speeds with one re verse speed.
GB - 11 STARTING AND SHUT OFF Electric Start See Figure 1 f or all Controls and F eatures locations. 1. Place mower unit on le vel ground. 2. Place Speed Selector in neutral (N). 3. Place Mower Clutch Le ver in disengaged (OUT) position. 4. Depress both Brak e and Clutch P edals to prev ent rolling.

GB - 13 ENGINE See Figure 4. For further information on the engines, ref er to the enclosed Engine Manual. Cooling Engine is air cooled. Air must circulate freely around engine from Air Intake to cooling fi ns on cylinder head and bloc k, to pre vent ov erheating.
GB - 14 4. Saturate with engine oil and squeeze (do not twist) to distribute oil and remov e excess oil. P aper Filter Do not attempt to clean or oil fi lter . Replace once a year or e very 100 operating hours, more often if used in e xtremely dusty conditions.
GB - 15 MOWER BLADE See fi gure 8. Regularly check mow er blades f or wear and that lock washer is fully compressed b y hardware . 28" and 32" decks: torque cap screw to 25-30 lbf-ft (34-47 N • m). 30" decks: torque nut to 50-60 lbf-ft (68-81 N • m).

GB - 17 3. Connect the positive (+) jumper cab le to the positive terminal of the discharged batter y . 4. Connect the other end of the same jumper cable to the positiv e (+) ter minal of the booster battery . 5. Connect one end of the second jumper cable to the negative ( – ) ter minal of the booster battery .
GB - 18 MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE The char t below sho ws the recommended maintenance schedule that should be perf ormed on a regular basis. More frequent service may be required due to working conditions (heavy loads , high ambient temperatures , dusty conditions, or airborne debr is).
GB - 19 • Adjust double n uts on clutch rod until carrier yok e clears neutral stop b y 1/8 to 1/4 inch (3 – 6 mm). • Release P arking Brak e and turn both rear wheels by hand. They should rotate freely in neutral (N) b ut not rotate with Speed Selector in any other position.
GB - 20 NO TE: A w ood bloc k (about 1" square b y 5" long) ma y be used under pan f or blade measurement. Wr ap bloc k with masking tape, mark tape with cutting edge of blade and measure distance from end of b loc k to mark(s). This method av oids errors by having to read any measurements under pan.
GB - 21 Anti-Scalp Rollers See fi gure 1 f or Controls and F eatures. Secure rollers in middle position f or av erage lawn mowing. 1. Use low est roller position when mowing in higher cutting heights and rough terrain to guard against most scalping. 2.
