1. Charge the lithium-ion batter y . The batter y can be charged when installed in the camera or by itself . 2. Open the batter y-chamber door as shown. 3. Inser t the batter y into the batter y chamber. Read the safety warn- ings in page 3 in the Xt manual.

7 Using the custom recording men u The custom recording menu is the gatew ay to annotation and te xt recording. This menu accesses three custom recording modes: image annotation, audio annotation, and text recording. Tu rn the camera on b y pressing the main switch near the shutter-release button (1).
Still images and audio tracks can be link ed by the camera. This section explains the procedure, and introduces how to mak e an .mdm file and send it with the DiMAGE Biz Software . 8 F ROM ANNOT A TION TO MAILING FR OM ANNO T A TION T O MAILING Record main image (p .
: enter : custom Main-image indicator - audio annotations are linked to this image. 9 Images are linked to a main image in the image-annotation mode . Up to ten images can be attached. The main image must be recorded bef ore being annotated. Continuous adv ance or voice memo can- not be used in the image-annotation mode.
:enter :size A linked image can be selected as a main image f or an annotation series; the linked-image indicator changes to a main-image indicator . The link to the first annotation series is not lost. The image will be used as a linked image in the first annotation series and the main image f or the second series.
:enter The main image is display ed again. The yello w marquee indicates the previ- ous marquee position. The red marquee is f or the next link ed image. Repeat the procedure to capture subsequent images. See page 9 for an e xplanation of thumbnail indicators.
:enter :size 12 F ROM ANNOT A TION TO MAILING Press the center of the controller to select the area. The audio stand-by screen is display ed. In the stand-by screen, press the shutter-release b utton to begin recording. The frame counter displa ys the elapsed time; during the last ten seconds, the counter will turn red and count down the time.
13 Annotation controls Only linked audio trac ks can be play ed back in Quic k View from the audio-annotation screen. Press the center of the controller to begin the playbac k. T o pause, press the con- troller again. A linked audio tr ack cannot be deleted.
Connect the camera to the computer . Inser t the small plug of the USB cable into the camera, and attach the other end of the USB cable to the computer’ s USB por t. Make sure the plugs are firmly attached. If “initializing USB connection” mes- sage does not disappear from the LCD monitor , the cable ma y hav e not been attached properly .

17 Adding te xt comments Te xt comments can be added to the main image in the annotation window . Click and drag the mouse to place a red marquee o ver the area to be described with a comment (2). Click the te xt tab . Click on the comment te xt box to place the cursor and enter a comment (3).
18 F ROM ANNOT A TION TO MAILING After adding or editing comments, sa ve the .mdm file. Saving .mdm files DiMAGE Biz Softw are - Saving .mdm files , 44-45. Save To sav e the .mdm file overwriting the original data, click the sav e button or select the sav e option from the file menu.
DiMAGE Biz Softw are - Printing, 46-48. 19 Printing .mdm files The print routine automatically lays out the images and text. In the annotation window , clic k the print button or select the print option from the file menu. The print-previe w window opens.
20 F ROM ANNOT A TION TO MAILING DiMAGE Biz Softw are - Sending by e-mail, 49-50. Set print options, and click the OK b utton to star t printing. Sending .mdm files by e-mail .mdm files can be sent by e-mail. Only MAPI compatible e-mail applications can be used and must be installed on your computer .
When this is check ed, the main image is resized to 1024 x 768 (XGA), and image comments are resized to 640 x 480 (V GA). Click the OK b utton. 21 The MAPI-compatible e-mail appli- cation will star t up. The .mdm file is attached automatically . Enter the address, subject, main te xt etc.

23 Processing te xt images The text image files can be processed to impro ve the appearance and legibility of images of tw o- dimensional in the DiMAGE Biz Softw are. Connect the camera to the computer and start up the DiMAGE Biz Software (p . 14). Select the folder containing the te xt image from the folder tree in the main windo w .
P erspective is adjusted with the rub ber band (2). The rubber band should line up with the hor- izontal and v er tical image ele- ments in the image. Click and drag on the blac k squares at the corner of the r ubber band to adjust the shape. The area out- side the rubber band will be deleted when processing is applied.
25 The result of the processing is applied immediately . The illustration on the left shows the results of perspectiv e control. If the result is not satisfactory , click the undo bu tton or select the undo option from the edit menu. Processing is additive .
26 T EXT RECORDING AND PROCESSING / V ALID A TION Printing text ima ges In the text windo w , click the print button on the tool bar , or select the print option from the file menu. Set the print size. Choose either radio button: Resolution: Enter one of the three values; the other two v alues change automatically .
