GB - 6 AL WA YS check overhead and side clearances carefully bef ore operation. AL WA YS be aware of traffic when ope rating along streets or curbs. Keep children and people away . Keep children out of work area and under wa tchful care of a responsible adult.
GB - 7 Run unit a few minutes af ter clearing snow to prevent freeze-up of attachment. Disengage attachment when not in use. Disengage all clutches before starting engine. Never leave a running unit unattended. AL WA YS shut off engine before leaving unit.
GB - 8 T ools Required : •T i r e G a u g e • Pliers • 1/2-In. 3/8-In, 7/16-In, and 9/16-In Wrench or Adjustable Wrench Unp acking Unit Unfold Handle bar (Figure 3) 1. Re move the lower and loosen the upper hardware on t he handlebar assem bly .
GB - 9 Check T ire Press ure Check tire pressure and adjust to the pressure listed on tire sidewall. Check Eng ine Crankc ase Oil IMPORT ANT : Engine is s hipped with 5W-30 oil in crankcase. Refer to Engine Manual for detailed instructions. Fill Engine Fu el T ank Refer to Engine Manual for proper type and capacity .

GB - 11 ST ANDARD C ONTROLS See Figure 4 on page 10 for all Controls and Features locations. Dual Handle Interlock When Attachment Clutch and then T raction Drive Clutch are engaged, the Attachment Clutch will remain engaged (leve r down) if released.
GB - 12 Fuel Shut-Off V alve IMPORT ANT : The fuel s hut-off valve MUST be in the closed position prior to transporting the unit. The fuel shut-off valve has t wo positions: Recoil St arter Handle When pulled, handle will turn engine over . IMPORT ANT : DO NOT let handle snap back against starter .
GB - 13 Install spacers on the wheel s pindle above or below the wheel supp ort as shown. Turn the spacers so the slot in the spacer does not align with the flat sides on the wheel spindle. Secure the spacers with the lock pin (Figure 7) . NOTE: Set both whe els at the same height for a level sw eeping pattern.
GB - 14 Fuel S t abilizer Gasoline left in the fuel sy stem for extended periods without a stabilizer w ill deteriorate, resulting in gum deposits in the system.
GB - 15 3. Make sure t hat the traction clutch and attachment drive clutc h levers are fully disengaged. 4. Open fuel shutoff valve. 5. Set th e engine shut off switch to the "On" position to start and operate the engine. 6. If engine is cold, apply choke.
GB - 16 Fuel Syste m Gasoline left in the fuel sy stem for extended periods without a stabilizer w ill deteriorate, resulting in gum deposits in the system. These deposits can dam age the carburetor and the fuel hoses, filter and tank. Prevent deposits from forming in t he fuel system during storage by adding a quality fuel stabilizer to the fuel.
GB - 17 6. R emove attachment drive belt f rom engine sheave ( it may be nec essary to turn engine s heave using recoil starter handle). 7. Support unit frame and brush attachment. 8. R emove cap screws securing attachment to unit fr ame. 9. R emove attachment belt from attachment pulley .
GB - 18 CHECK CLUTCH OPERATION Brush must stop quickly when attachment clutch lever is released. Wheels must st op quickly when traction drive clutch lever is released. If clutches do not engage or disengage properly , adjust or repa ir before operation.
GB - 19 Casters 1. Grease fittings on lef t and right side caster shafts. Drive IMPORT ANT : Wipe each lube fitting clean before and after lubrication. DO NOT allow grease or oil t o get on the friction disc , drive plate or belts. NOTE: Apply Ariens Hi-T em p Grease (see Serv ice P art s on page 29) or equivalent to the lube fittings (Figure 12).

GB - 21 RECOIL GUARD FOAM C OVER INST ALLATION (Figure 13) The recoil foam cover slides over the starter handle and attaches to the recoil guard with Ve l c r o . NOTE: The recoil guard foam cover is not necessary for operation during the non-winter months.
GB - 22 ATT ACHMENT DRIV E BELT REPLACEME NT Remove Att achment Drive Belt (Figures 15 and 16) 1. Shut off engine, disconnect spark plug wire and allow unit to cool completely . 2. R emove the hardware at taching the remote trigger cable to the brush assembly .
GB - 23 T RACTION DRI VE BELT REPLA CEMENT (Figure 16 and 17) NOTE: Brush assem bly and frame m ust be separated and attachment driv e belt removed from engine sheave in order to change traction drive belt (F igure 16). 1. Remove attachment drive belt (See Remove At tachment Drive Belt on page 22).
GB - 24 2. Pull idler aw ay from traction dr ive belt and remove belt from idler , crankshaft pulley and driven pulley (it may be necessary to turn crankshaft pulley using recoil starter hand le). 3. Replace t raction drive belt. 4. Swing dr ive plate toward friction disc to slide finger into stop hol e in frame.
GB - 25 Check Att achment Idler Arm Roller Clearance (Figure 22) 1. R emove the bottom c over . 2. With t he attachment clutch lever engaged, check the clearance between the frame an d plastic roller on the lower end of the at tachment idler arm (Figure 22).
GB - 26 Check Belt Finge r Clear a nce (Figure 24) 1. With at tachment clutch lever engaged, the belt finger located opposite the bel t idler must be less than 1/8 in. (3.18 mm) from belt, but not t ouching the belt. T o adjust belt f inger, loosen the bolts and move the finger to the proper position.
GB - 27 13. Insert new friction disc assembly into frame. Install washers onto carrier bearing and slide into speed selector arm. 14. Slide hex shaft through new friction plate assembly . Install pinion sprocket onto hex shaft and slide sh aft into right bearing.
GB - 28 T ROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE CORRECTION Engine wi ll not crank/ start. 1. Fuel t ank is empty . 2. Fuel shut-off valve closed. 3. Engine shut off switch turne d off. 4. Engine ignition problems. 1. Fill fuel tank. 2. Open fuel shut-off valve.
