The key to good wash results is finding the correct combination of detergent and temperature, and then allowing the washing machine to optimize their us - age through its pr ogramming. Program lengths can vary for this reason. The fully electronic contr ols offer a com - bination of simple operation with many optional features.
The headings numbered (1,2,3,...) show the operating sequence and can be used as a brief guide. Before washing A Prepare the wash load ^ Empty all pockets. Foreign objects accidentally left in pockets (e.g. nails, coins, paper clips, etc.) can damage clothes and the machine.
B Press the "Door" button to open the door C Load the machine Unfold the laundry and place it in the drum. For best results we r ecommend washing mixed loads consisting of both large and small items. This improves washing effectiveness and helps dis - tribute the load evenly to keep the ma - chine stable and reduce noise during spinning.
After washing K T urn the program selector switch to "Finish/Start" L Press the "ON/OFF" button. M Press the "Door" button. Do not attempt to remove laundry from the mac hine if the drum is turning. Y ou may seriously injure your self.
T o cancel a pr ogram: ^ T ur n the program selector to "Finish/Start". T o interrupt a pr ogram: ^ Press the "ON/OFF" buttton. T o continue the program, turn the ma - chine back on. T o change an incorrectl y selected program: ^ T ur n the program selector switch to "Finish/Start".
Powder detergent should be added to compartment j (main wash) and compartment i (pre wash, if selected) at the beginning of each wash cycle. Due to the design of the Miele 1 / 3 to 1 / 2 the manufacturer’s r ecommended amount of detergent is plenty for excel - lent wash results.
If fabric softener is desired, it will work more ef fectively and be gentler on the clothes if it is dispensed in the final rinse cycle of the wash, rather than in the dryer with softener sheets. T o auto - matically dispense fabric softener: ^ Open the lid of compartment p .

By using the pushbuttons to select one or more additional options, basic pr o - grams can be tailored to the type of laundry being washed. When the "Door" button is pressed, the other buttons will spring out, cancelling any additional options.
Time display "H:min" The Time display has a dual function. – It shows the time remaining in the wash program, and – it shows the programmed "Start de - lay" remaining befor e the program begins. Delay Start Upon turning on the machine, the "De - lay start" lamp will be blinking.
T o clean the washing machine: ^ Clean the casing using a mild non - abrasive detergent or soap and water , and wipe dr y with a soft cloth. ^ Clean the control panel with a damp cloth. ^ If necessary , the drum can be cleaned using a stainless steel cleaner according to the manufac - turer’s instructions.
Cleaning the drain pump and lint trap Occasionally small objects, (buttons, coins, etc.), may find their way into the lint trap. If the machine does not drain completely , the lint trap should be checked to ensure that it is fr ee of for - eign objects.
^ Once the flow of water stops, remove the lint trap and clean it. ^ Remove any foreign objects or lint. ^ T ur n the drain pump impeller (in the back of the chamber) by hand to check that it rotates fr eely . ^ Clean the inside of the lint trap hous- ing.
Cleaning the water inlet filters The washing machine has two water in - take filters to protect the intake valves. – one in the open end of the intake hose. – and one where the hose is con - nected to the machine only to be cleaned by a technician.
Any w ork done on the electrical components of this appliance should only be performed b y a qualified technician in accor dance with all local and na - tional codes and regulations. Unauthorized repairs may result in per sonal injury and machine damage.

Insufficient detergent was used to break down the particles of grease in heavily soiled laundry . – Add more detergent. – Before washing the next load run a COT - TONS 120°F program with detergent but with - out a load to clean the machine.
Opening the drum door in the event of a po wer failure If the drain outlet is clogged, more water will be retained in the machine (up to 6.5 gal/25l) . Caution: If laundry has been washed at a high temperature, the water draining out of the machine will still be hot! Stop and allow it to cool be - fore pr oceeding.
Never reach into a r otating drum! Al - ways make sure the drum is station - ary before reaching in to r emove laundry . Reaching into a moving drum is extremely danger ous. Door hinged right ^ Using a spoon handle or similar im- plement, pull down the emergency door latch (see illustration).

Installation surface A concrete floor is the most suitable surface for a washing machine. Con - crete floors ar e less prone to vibration during the spin cycle than wooden floors. Please note the following points: ^ The machine must be level and se - curely positioned.
2 . T urn the right shipping strut 90° clockwise. 3 . Withdraw the two struts together with the support plate. 4 . Plug the two holes with the plastic caps provided. Movement of the machine without the shipping struts in place should be kept to a minimum.
Leveling the mac hine T o ensure smooth operation, it is es - sential that the machine is level. Failure to level the machine can r esult in the machine "banging" in the spin cy- cle or "walking" across the floor during operation. Energy and water use will also increase.
Building in This machine can be installed under a countertop either with or without a lid. If the lid is removed, the pr otective cover located underneath must be left in place. An optional UBS spacer kit (Part #1542631) can also be used to raise the machine an additional 2", if neces - sary .
Replacing the decor panel ^ Keep the door closed when replacing the decor panel. ^ Remove the edge strip from the hinged side of the door by unscrew - ing the 4 screws shown in the illustra - tion. Three ar e on the side of the door and one is on the bottom.
Installing a cabinet matching toekick A cabinet matching toekick can be in - stalled over the machine toekick if so desired. The height and depth of the machine toekick however , can not be altered. The toekick must be installed so that it can be removed if servicing be - comes necessary .
Any residual water left in the machine fr om the factory test - ing process can be flushed out as follo ws: ^ Do not put any laundry in the ma - chine. ^ Place 1 / 4 of the recommended amount of detergent in compartment j . ^ T ur n on the machine. ^ Press the "Rapid wash" button.
Connect the cold water intake hose (blue mark) to the cold water valve and the hot water intake hose (red mark) to the hot water valve. T ur n on the valves and check for leaks. The water pressur e must be within 15-145 psi (1-10 bar). If the water pres - sure is gr eater than 145 psi (10 bar), a pressur e reducer must be installed.
GROUNDING INSTR UCTIONS This appliance must be grounded. In the event of a malfunction or break - down, grounding will r educe the risk of electric shock by providing a path of least resistance for the electric curr ent. This appliance is equipped with a cord having an equipment grounding con - ductor and plug.

Step 1: T ur n off the machine, close the door , and release all pushbuttons. Set the Progam Selector Switch to "Finish/Start". Step 2: 4 seconds. ^ Press the "ON/OFF" button Step 3: ^ Press the "W ater plus" button 4 times (i.
Step 4: Desired function: High water level ^ Set the Program Se - lector to "Fine rinse". Continue with Step 5 to activate. 5th rinse cyc le ^ Set the Program Se - lector to "Drain". Con - tinue with Step 5 to activate. W ater intake through compart- ment i ^ Set the Program Se- lector to "Starch".
Additional rinse in Rapid wash ^ Set the Program Selec - tor to "WOOLENS 85°". Continue with Step 5 to activate. Step 5: ^ Press the "W ater plus" button twice (i.e. in and out once) to tog - gle the function "ON/OFF". The "Rinse 1-2" lamp will illuminate when the func- tion is activated.
T o check if the function has been stored: ^ Perfor m Steps 1 to 4. If the "Rinse 1-2" lamp lights, the pro - grammable function is active. ^ Press the "ON/OFF" button.
