CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 8 The MM-10XP Subwoofer The MM-10XP is power ed by an external 48 V DC power supply , eliminating the need for wiring conduits while still preserving the ad vantages of self-powered loudspeaker systems.
9 CHAPTER 2: THE MM-10XP SUBWOOFER The MM-10XP is power ed by an external 48 V DC power supply , eliminating the need for wiring conduits while still preserving the ad vantages of self-powered loudspeaker systems.
CHAPTER 2: THE MM-10XP SUBWOOFER 10 THE MM-10XP INPUT POLARITY SWITCH The Input Polarity switch swaps the polarity of the audio source signal, which is sometimes necessary to acoustically align the subwoofer with other loudspeakers in the system.
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 11 MM-10XP T emperatur e and Limiting The Limit LED turns solid yellow when its heat sink tempera- ture r eaches 65° C (145° F), indicating the unit is reaching its maximum heat dissipation and a r eduction in SPL is recom- mended.
CHAPTER 2: THE MM-10XP SUBWOOFER 12 WIRING MM-10XP LOUDSPEAKER CABLES WITH BELDEN 1502 CABLE When wiring MM-10XP loudspeaker cables with Belden 1502 or an equivalent cable, use the conventions in T able 3. The red and black w ires in the Belden 1502 cable have a thicker gauge than the other thr ee wires and should be used for DC power .
13 CHAPTER 3: POWERING MM-10XP SUBWOOFERS WITH THE MPS-488HP The MPS-488HP power supply delivers DC power and bal- anced audio to Meyer Sound loudspeakers that r equire a 48 V DC external power supply . The MPS-488HP is a multi- channel, switched-mode, r egulated power supply that occu- pies one space in a standar d 19-inch rack.
CHAPTER 3: POWERING MM-10XP SUBWOOFERS WITH THE MPS-488HP 14 THE MPS-488HP REAR PANEL The MPS-488HP r ear panel incl udes an AC Input connector , eight Channel Inputs for r eceiving source audio, eight Chan- nel Outputs for delivering DC power and b alanced audio, and seven Link switches for r outing audio from inputs to outputs.
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 15 Routing T wo Inputs to Four Outputs Each T o route two Channel Inputs to fou r Channel Outputs each: 1. Set the Link 4 switch to OFF and all other Link switches to ON.
CHAPTER 3: POWERING MM-10XP SUBWOOFERS WITH THE MPS-488HP 16 MPS-488HPp Channel Outputs The MPS-488HPp Channel Outputs use Phoenix 5-pin male connectors with thre e pins for balanced audio (positive, neg- ative, and shield) and two for DC Power (positive and neg a- tive).
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 17 SAFETY ISSUES Pay close attention to these important electrical and safety issues. ■ The MPS-488HP requir es a grounded outlet. ■ Do not use a ground-lifting adap ter or cut the AC cable ground pin. ■ Keep all liquids away from the MPS-48 8HP to avoid haz- ards fr om electrical shock.
CHAPTER 3: POWERING MM-10XP SUBWOOFERS WITH THE MPS-488HP 18 a lar ger gauge for the DC cable so you can achieve longer cable runs (see “Cable Lengths and Cable Gauges for MM-10XPs” on page 11). ■ When connecting MM-10XP subwoofers equipped with EN3 connectors to the MPS-488HPe power supply , use EN3 5-pin male to EN3 5-pin female cables.

CHAPTER 4: THE MM-10AC SUBWOOFER 20 Each MM-10AC ships with one AC looping connector for making AC looping cables. Assembled AC looping cables are available fr om Meyer Sound. CAUTION: Do not exceed the current capabil- ity of the 20-amp Input connector for the MM-10AC.
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 21 ■ Ultimate Short -T erm Peak Current — A rating for fast- reacting magnetic b reakers. ■ Inrush Curr ent — The spike of initial curr ent encoun- tered when po wering on. Y ou can use the following table as a guide for selecting cable gauges and circuit br eaker ratings for the system’ s operating voltage.
CHAPTER 4: THE MM-10AC SUBWOOFER 22 ■ Pin 3 — Signal (–) ■ Case — Earth (AC) ground and chassis Pins 2 and 3 carry the input as a differ ential signal.
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 23 Powering On (Green) When powering up the MM-10AC subwoofer , the following startup events occur and are indicated by the Limit LED: 1. The LED flashes green and t hen yellow during power up. 2. The LED turns solid green indicating the subwoofer is ready to r eproduce audio.
CHAPTER 4: THE MM-10AC SUBWOOFER 24.
25 CHAPTER 5: THE MM-10ACX SUBWOOFER The MM-10ACX subwoofer includes onboar d DC power and audio r outing for driving satellite loudspeakers: up to two MM-4XPs, or a single UP-4XP (due to its higher power requir ements and current draw). Thr ee independent XLR female Audio In connectors ar e provided for the subwoofe r and satellite loudspeakers.
CHAPTER 5: THE MM-10ACX SUBWOOFER 26 AC Loop Output Connector (Gray) The gray AC Loop Output connector allows multiple MM-10ACX subwoofers to be looped and power ed from a single power source . Connect the AC Loop Output of the first MM-10ACX to the AC Input of the second MM-10ACX, and so forth.
MM-10 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 27 CAUTION: The power source for the MM-10ACX should always operate within the requir ed voltage range, at least a few volts from the upper and lower ranges.
