CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 8 degree horizo ntal polar patter n below 500 Hz. The acousti- cal manifold, based on Meyer Sound’ s patented REM™ rib- bon emulation technology , radiates driver output with very low distortion and a focused, well-behaved, narr ow disper- sion, minimizing destructive high-frequen cy interactions between cabinets.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 9 When used in lar ge arrays, typically as a main loudspeaker system, MINA can be flown with the optional MG-MINA grid. MINA’ s end plates include captive GuideALinks™ and quick-release pins that allo w splay angles between cabinets to be readily adjusted .
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 10 The MY A-MINA mounting yoke suspends arrays of up to three MINA cab inets from a single point, or pole-mounts up to two cabinets (pole-mount adapter not include d).
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 11 For most applications, Meyer Sound’ s 500-HP subwoofer is the logical choice for enhancing low fr equencies in MINA loudspeaker systems. The 500-HP can be flown or ground- stacked with MINA arrays using the optional MTF-M’elodie/ MINA transition frame.
CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 12.
13 CHAPTER 2: POWER REQUIR EMENTS Self-powered and ultracompact, MINA loudspeakers com- bine advanced loudspeaker technology with equally advanced power capabilities. Understanding power distri- bution, voltage and curr ent requirements, as well as electri- cal safety issues, is critical to MINA’ s safe operation.
CHAPTER 2: POWER REQUIREMENTS 14 WIRING FOR AC CONNECTIONS MINA loudspeakers requir e a grounded outlet. T o operate safely and effectively , it is extremely important that the entire system be pr operly grounded.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 15 MINA V OLTAGE REQUIREMENTS MINA operates safely and continuously when the AC voltage stays within 100–264 V AC at 50 or 60 Hz. The loudspeaker can withstand continuous voltages up to 275 volts and allows any combination of voltage to GND (neutral-line- ground or line -line-ground).
CHAPTER 2: POWER REQUIREMENTS 16 V pk (drop) = I pk x R (cable total) The Burst Current can also be used to calculate the AC looping capability of MINA. ■ Ultimate Short -T erm Peak Current — A rating for fast- reacting magnetic b reakers. ■ Inrush Curr ent — The spike of initial curr ent encoun- tered when po wering on.
17 CHAPTER 3: AMPLIFICATION AND AUDIO MINA’ s drivers are power ed by an extremely efficient onboard th ree-channel, Class-D amplifier that uses minimal AC power when idle.
CHAPTER 3: AM PLIFICATION AND AUDIO 18 paths, Galileo systems of fer independent inputs and outputs and pr esets for optimizing MINA array perfor- mance and subsystem integration. INTERNAL CONNECTIONS Meyer Sound loudspeakers are tested and shipped from the factory with their drivers in corr ect alignment.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 19 Amplifier Cooling System MINA’ s amplifier relies solely on natural convection for cool- ing from air flowing over its heat sink.
CHAPTER 3: AM PLIFICATION AND AUDIO 20.
21 CHAPTER 4: LINE ARRAYS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION ABOUT LINE ARRAYS Line arrays achieve directivity thr ough constructive and destructive interfer ence.
CHAPTER 4: LINE ARRAYS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION 22 SYSTEM DESIGN PRINCIPLES Line array designs seek to achieve the following: ■ Uniform vertical coverage ■ Uniform SPL ■ Uniform frequency r espons.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 23 High-Frequency Equa liza tion Strategies For far -field coverage, air absorption plays a critical role. The longer the distance, the gr eater the attenuation that occurs for high fr equencies.
CHAPTER 4: LINE ARRAYS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION 24 COMPENSATING FOR LATENCY WHEN INTEGRATING MINA LOUDSPEAKERS Because MINA loudspeakers use onboar d digital amplifica- tion, a very small amount of latency is intr oduced to the audio signal when converting fr om analog to digital and dig- ital to analog.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 25 All system parameters for the Galileo 616 and Galileo 408 can be configured from the extensive Compass™ softwar e running on a Windows or Mac ® computer . The Galileo 616 can also be configure d from its intuitive fr ont panel controls.
CHAPTER 4: LINE ARRAYS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION 26 USING DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSORS NOTE: While Meyer Sound str ongly recom- mends using the Galileo loudspeaker manage- ment system to drive Meyer Sound loudspeakers, the loudspeakers can also be driven fr om third-party dig- ital signal processors.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 27 Integrating 500-HP Subwoofers For most applications, Meyer Sound's 500-HP subwoofer is the logical choice for enhancing low fr equencies in MINA loudspeaker systems. The 500-HP extends the range of the system down to 35 Hz.
CHAPTER 4: LINE ARRAYS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION 28.
29 CHAPTER 5: QUICKFLY RIGGING MINA loudspeakers are compatib le with Meyer Sound’ s QuickFly ® rigging system, a comprehensive collection of rig- ging, flying, and mounting har dware. MINA’ s captive GuideALinks allow cabinets to be linked at various splay angles for flying, gr oundstacking, and transport.
CHAPTER 5: QUICKFLY RIGGING 30 Front GuideAlinks The front GuideALinks act as a pivot p oint between linked MINAs, with the splay angle between the units determined by the rear GuideALink positions. When stowing f ront GuideALinks, the knob is positioned at the top of the slot.
MINA OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 31 above them, whether they are flo wn or ground- stacked, and other factors. MAPP Online Pro is r ec- ommended for determining the optimum splay angles for loudspeakers and coverage pattern of the array .
