If you sell you rv ehicle, it is important that you make the buyer aware of this safety information .B es ure to give the buyer this Operator's Manual. If the air bags are deployed, you will hear a bang, and as mall amount of powder may also be released.

You should only use seat cover that have been approved for your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz. The seat covers must have as pecial tear seam for side impact air bags. Otherwise, the side impact air bags cannot deploy correctly and therefore cannot provide the intended protection in the even to fa na ccident.
The pelvis air bags deploy next to and below the outer seat cushions. They are deployed: R on the side on which an impact occurs R at the start of an accident with ah igh rate of lateral vehicle deceleration or acceleration ,e .
or if the front-passenger seat is classified as being empty. When the OCS senses that the front- passenger seat occupant is classified as being up to or less than the weight of at ypical 12-month-old .
Note the following important information if it is necessary to carry ac hild on the front- passenger seat: R Your vehicle is equipped with air bag technology designed to deactivate the front-passenger.
If the SmartKey is removed from the ignition lock or is in position 0 ,P ASSENGER AIR BAG OFF indicator lamp : does not light up. The Occupant Classification System (OCS) categorize st he occupant on the front- passenge rs eat using aw eight sensor .T he front-passenger front air bag is deactivated automatically for certain weight categories.
Cente rb efore seating any child on the front passenger seat. G WARNING Objects between the seat surface and the child restraint system could affect the function of the OCS. This could result in the front-passenger fron ta ir bag not functioning as intended during an accident.
Problems with the Occupant Classification System G WARNING If the 45 indicator lamp illuminates and remains illuminated when the weight of at ypical adult or someone larger than as mall individual has been detected on the passenger seat, do not allow any occupant to use the passenger seat until the system has been repaired.

Special seat belt retractor G WARNING If the seat belt is released while driving, the child restraint system will no longer be secured properly. The special seat belt retractor is disabled and the inertia real draws in ap ortion of the seat belt. The seat belt cannot be immediately refastened.
Secure child restraint systems withou ta LATCH-type (ISOFIX) child seat securing system using the seat belts in the vehicle. When installing child restraint systems, you must observe the manufacturer's installation instructions.
Additionally, children could set the vehicl ei n motion if, for example, they: R release the parking brake. R shifting the automatic transmission ou to f park position P R Start the engine. There is ar isk of an acciden ta nd injury. When leaving the vehicle, always take the SmartKey with you and lock the vehicle.
X To activate/deactivate: press button ; . If indicator lamp : is lit, operatio no ft he rear side windows is disabled. Operation is only possible using the switches in the driver's door. If indicator lamp : is off, operation is possible using the switches in the rear compartment.
ABS works fro mas peed of abou t5m ph (8 km/h )u pwar ds ,r egardless of road-surface conditions .A BS works on slippery surfaces, eve ni fy ou only brake gently. The yellow ! ABS warning lamp in the instrument cluster lights up when the ignition is switched on.
As ar esult, BAS PLUS may not intervene in all critical situations. There is ar isk of an accident. Always pay careful attention to the traffic situation and be ready to brake.
If ESP ® detects that the vehicle is deviating from the direction desire db yt he driver, one or more wheels are braked to stabilize the vehicle .T he engine output is also modified to keep the vehicle on the desired course within physical limits. ESP ® assists the driver when pulling away on wet or slippery roads.
Deactivating/activating ESP ® (AMG vehicles) Activating/deactivating SPORT handling mode G WARNING Whe nS PORT handling mode is activated, there is ag reater risk of skidding and accidents. Only activat eS PORT handling mode in the situations described in the following.
X To deactivate: press button : unti lt he å ESP ® OFF warning lamp lights up in the instrument cluster. The ÷ OFF message appear si nt he multifunctio nd isplay. Deactivate ESP ® when drivin go n designated roads when the vehicle's own oversteerin ga nd understeering characteristics are desired.
ADAPTIVE BRAKE ADAPTIV EB RAKE enhance sb raking safety and offers increased braking comfort .I n addition to th eb raking function ,A DAPT IVE BRAKE also has th eH OL Df unction ( Y page 186) and hill start assist ( Y page 150). In order to maintain the appropri at ed istance to the vehicle in front and thus prevent a collision, you must apply the brakes yourself. Due to the nature of the system, particularly complicated driving condition sm ay cause unnecessar yw arning so rt he unnecessary intervention of PRE-SAFE ® Brake.

If you do not open the vehicle within approximately 40 seconds of unlocking: R the vehicle is locked again. R the theft deterrent locking system is armed again.

SmartKey battery Important safety notes G WARNING Batteries contain toxic and corrosive substances. If batteries are swallowed, it can result in severe health problems. There is a risk of fatal injury. Keep batteries out of the reach of children. If ab attery is swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
X Insert the front tabs of battery compartment cover : into the housing first and then press to close it. X Insert mechanical key ; into the SmartKey ( Y page 78).
Problems with the SmartKey Problem Possible causes/consequences and M Solutions You cannot lock or unlock the vehicle using the SmartKey. The SmartKey battery is discharged or nearly discharged. X Try again to lock/unlock the vehicle using the remote control function of the SmartKey.
Problem Possible causes/consequences and M Solutions The engine cannot be started using the SmartKey. The on-board voltage is too low. X Switch off non-essential consumers, e.g. seat heating or interior lighting, and try to start the engine again. If this does not work: X Check the starter battery and charge it if necessary ( Y page 324).

Opening/closing automatically from outside Important safet yn otes G WARNING Combustion engine se mit poisonous exhaust gases such as carbon monoxide. Exhaust gases can enter the vehicle interior if the trun kl id is open when the engin ei sr unning, especially if the vehicle is in motion.

X Make sure that all the side windows and the sliding sunroof are closed. X To interrupt convenience closing: release recessed sensor surface : on the door handle.
Problems with the side windows G WARNING If you close as ide window again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the side window closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process.
Do not allo wa nything to protrude fro mt he sliding sunroof. Otherwise, the seals could be damaged. ! The weather can change abruptly. It could start to rain or snow. Make sure that the sliding sunroof is closed when you leave the vehicle. The vehicle electronic sc an be damaged if water enters the vehicle interior.

Problems with the sliding sunroof G WARNING If you close the sliding sunroof again immediately after it has been blocked or reset, the sliding sunroof closes with increased or maximum force. The reversing feature is then not active. Parts of the body could be trapped in the closing area in the process.

Steering wheel heating Activating/deactivating X Turn the SmartKey to position 2 in the ignition lock ( Y page 147). X To switch on/off: turn the lever in the direction of arrow : or ; .
Problems with the steering wheel heating Problem Possible causes/consequences and M Solutions If the steering wheel heating indicator lamp is flashing, the steering wheel heating has switched off automatically. The on-board voltage is too low because too many electrical consumers are switched on.
Position of the steering wheel for driving The steering wheel is moved to the last selected position when: R the driver's door is closed R with KEYLESS-GO: you press the Start/ Stop button once on vehicles with KEYLESS-GO or R with the SmartKey: you insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock.
The indicator lamp goes out again after some time. You can adjust the selected mirror using adjustmen tb utton = as long as the indicator lamp is lit. X Press adjustmen tb utton = up, down ,o r to th el eft or right until you have adjusted th ee xter io rm irror to th ec orrect position.
Automati ca nti-glar em irrors The rear-view mirror and th ee xter io rm irror on th ed river' ss ide automatically go int oa nti- glar em od ei ft he followin gc ondition sa re met simultaneously: R the ignition is switched on and R incident light from headlamps strikes the sensor in the rear-view mirror.
X Press memory button M ? and one of the arrows on adjustmen tb utton = within three seconds. The parking position is stored if the exterior mirror does not move.
X Adjust the sea t( Y page 100). X On the driver' ss ide, adjust the steering wheel ( Y page 106 )a nd the exterio rm irrors ( Y page 109). X Press memory button M and one of the storage position buttons 1 , 2 or 3 within three seconds. The settings are stored in the selected prese tp osition.
