9 Congratulations on purchasing the Meade ® CaptureVie w ® CV -5. CV -5 is an 8 x 42mm full-featured binocular . It is integrated with a digital camera that requires no film to capture pictures or video . This manual is designed to quic kly guide you through the operation of your CaptureVie w CV -5.
Adjust Eye Relief Adjust the Barrels Y ou need to adjust the barrels, as the distance between y our e yes is usually different than the distance betw een another person’ s eyes . • If you wear e yeglasses, f old down the rubber ey ecups and hold the ey epieces up against your glasses.
11 How to Use Y our Binocular Focus the Binocular 1. Set the Diopter Scale on underside of CaptureView at its center point between “+” and “-. ” 2. Choose an object (such as a telephone pole) that is at least 50 feet (15m.) a way . 3. Looking with only your left e ye , rotate the Focus Knob until the object y ou are vie wing is focused.

Use the Preview mode Select the Menu mode Select the Playbac k mode When you first turn on the camera or when you e xit the Menu mode, the Preview mode is operational and the LCD screen displays a liv e image .

Playbac k Images Note: A counter appears at the upper left. If the counter reads 3/5, for e xample, it means the third of five items . A movie counts as one item.
18 Other Menu Options If you w ant to ... Do this... For e xample, you ma y want to record a baseball pitcher throwing a pitch: 1. Select the Settings menu and press the Menu button. 2. Select the Flashback P er iod submen u and press the Menu button.
Other Menu Options Some suggestions f or using Flashback Let’ s say y our daughter is on the varsity bask etball team. And right now , she’ s dr ibbling down the court. Y ou’ d like to capture her patented hook shot on video. This is a job f or Flashbac k.
20 Use Other Playbac k Options Besides playing bac k images and video , the Playback men u provide other options: Delete Last Image, Delete All Images and Format. Delete Last Ima ge Delete All Images Format Storage Media • While in Playbac k mode, press the Menu button once to displa y Playbac k setting submenus.
Other Menu Options Change Resolution 1. Use the Right or Left button to mov e the selection box ov er the Resolution menu (the "2M" icon) and press the Menu button to dis- pla y. 2. Use the Right or Left button to mo v e the selection box to the desired Resolution option.
22 • Select Auto to allo w CaptureView to automatically select dark-light expo- sure of the image. Normally , you will use this setting. • Select Backlight to choose an e xpo- sure that has less contrast than the A uto setting. Note: Experiment with these setting to find the exposure that w or ks f or you.
23 • Mov e the selection box ov er the Settings Menu icon and press the Menu button to displa y the Settings submenus. 1. Choose the Time and Date icon to set the current time and date . Use the Right and Left buttons to scroll through the settings on each line of the clock men u.
24 • Choose this icon to turn the beep on or off. • Choose the Info Displa y icon and select On to display the icons of the menu options you ha ve chosen on the LCD when in viewing mode . • Choose the Info Displa y icon and select Off to turn off menu icons on the LCD (giving you a more unob- str ucted view on the LCD).
25 • Choose the Flick er icon and then select the flick er rate setting (50Hz or 60Hz) for y our countr y . The flicker rate f or the United States is 60Hz. • Choose the Flashbac k P er iod icon and then select the length of time you wish the Flashbac k feature to record: 5, 10, 15 or 20 seconds.
26 • Y ou are downloading pictures or video to a PC. • An SD card is in the camera. T o load or eject memor y card: Press the card in and release when you hear a clic k. The card ma y be read by an y flash card reader . By using a flash card reader , you can also download y our images to a Macintosh using an OS earlier than 9.
27 Installing Software If you w ant to ... Do this... 1. Inser t supplied CD Rom into your PC’ s dr iv e. 2. A splash screen displays. Click on “Ulead Photo Express. ” 3. Follow on-screen instructions. 4. After you clic k “Finish, ” the Ulead Photo Express icon appears on your desktop .
The included CD ROM contains other softw are programs b y Ulead that will assist you in editing your images , allow y ou to transf er images to email, and provide you with other useful functions.
29 Care of Y our CaptureView 1. Nev er immerse CaptureView in liquid. Remove dust or stains with a soft cloth dampened with water or neutral detergent. K eep in a dr y , cool dust-free environment or a container when it is not being used. Do not spra y liquid cleaners directly onto LCD .
