Black plate (15,1) q Seat Recline WARNING Do not drive with the seats reclined: Sitting in a reclined position while the vehicle is moving is dangerous because you don't get the full protection from sea t belts. Du ring sudden braking or a collisi on, you can slide under the lap belt and suffer serious inte rnal injuries.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returning a rear -reclined seatback to its upright position, make sure you hold on to the seatback with you r other hand whi le operating the lever. If the seatback is not supported, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury.
Black plate (17,1) NOTE The seat temperature is r egulated automatically by a thermostat. Other than turning it on or off, it cannot be adjusted. Front Seats (Electrically Operated Seats) WARNING Do not modify or replace the front seats: Modifying or replacing the front seats such as replacing the upholst ery or loosening any bolts is da ngerous.
Black plate (18,1) CAUTION Ø The seat-bottom power adjustment is operated by motors. Avoid extended operation becaus e excessive use can damage the motors. Ø To prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the power adjustment when th e engine is stoppe d.

Release the switch at the desired position. q Height Adjustment The seat height can be adjusted by moving the switch up or down. q Lumbar Support Adjustment T o increase the seat firmness , pull the lever forward.
Black plate (20,1) Height adjustmen t T o raise a head restraint, pull it up to the desired position. T o lower the head restraint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the top is even with the top of the passenger's ears, never the passenger's neck to prevent injury .
Black plate (21,1) Rear Seat WARNING Do not stack car go higher than the seatbacks: Stacking luggage or other cargo higher than the seatbacks, and placing articles on the rear seat is dangerous. During sudden braki ng or a collision, objects ca n fly around and become projectiles that may hit and injure passengers.

Black plate (23,1) When using the rear seatback knobs: CAUTION When operating th e rear seatbac k knob, make sure you support the seatback with you r hand. If the seatback is not supported with you r hand, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury to the finger that pushes the rear seatback knob down.
Black plate (24,1) q Head Restraint WARNING Always drive with the head restraints installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted: Driving with the head restr aints adjusted too low or removed is dangerous. With no support behind your head, your neck could be seriously injured in a collision.
Black plate (25,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to decrease the possibility of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belts. All of the seat belt retractors are designed to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (26,1) WARNING Always wear your seat belt and make sure all occu pants are properly restrained: Not wearing a seat belt is extremely danger ous. During a collision, occupants not wearing seat belts could hit someone or things ins ide the vehicle or even be thrown out of the vehicle.
Black plate (27,1) CAUTION Belt retraction may become difficult if the belt s and rings are soiled, so try to keep them clean. For more details about cleaning the seat belts, refer to “ Cleaning the Lap/Shoulder Belt Webbin g ” (page 8-56).
Black plate (28,1) q Automatic Locking Mode Always use the automatic locki ng mode to keep the child-restraint system from shifting to an unsafe position in the event of an acciden t. T o enable seat belt automatic locki ng mode, pull it all the way out and connect it as instruct ed on the child-restraint syst em.
Black plate (29,1) Seat Belt (Except Center - Rear Position) NOTE When using the center-r ear seat belt, refer to “ Center-Rear Position Seat Belt ” (page 2-22). q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the tongue. 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoulder belt.
Black plate (30,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twist s. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retr acts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully r etract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (31,1) Front Seat Belt Pretensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these systems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (32,1) Have your seat belts changed immediately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expende d: One or both front air bags may deploy, and the corresponding pretensioner(s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (33,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner System W arning Light If the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system is working properly , the warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position or after the engine is cranked.

Black plate (37,1) WARNING Do not use a seat belt extender unless it is necessar y: Using a seat belt extender when not necessary is danger ous. The sea t belt will be too long and not fit properly. In an accident, the seat belt will not provide adequate protec tion and you could be seriously injur ed.
Black plate (38,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/Beep The seat belt war ning light illuminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turned to the ON position.

Black plate (40,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restraint syst ems for children smal l enough to use them. Y ou are required by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (41,1) WARNING Use the correct size child-restraint system: For effective protection in vehicle accident s and sudden stops, a child must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restraint system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injured or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (42,1) Do not install a front-facing child-restraint system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the fo rce of a deployin g air bag could cause serious injury or death to the child.

Black plate (44,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statistics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passenger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clearly unsafe due to air bags.

Clicking from the retractor will be heard during retraction if the system is in the automatic locking mode. If the belt does not lock the seat down tight, repeat this step.

Black plate (59,1) Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Precautions The front and side supplementa l restraint systems (SRS) include up to 6 air bags. Please verify which kinds of air bags are equipped on your vehicle by locating the “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indicators.

Black plate (103,1) q Locking, Unlocking with Key The driver's door can be locked /unlocked with the key . T urn the key toward the front to unlock, toward the back to lock.
Black plate (104,1) NOTE l (W ith advanced key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob fr om the outside. l (W ith retractable type key) The driver's door cannot be locked using the door-lock knob fr om the outside if the key is in the ignition switch.
Black plate (105,1) Locking, unlocking with door-lock switch All doors and the liftgate lock automatically when lock side is pushed. They all unlock when unlock side is pushed.

Remove the cap on the interior surface of the liftgate with a flathead scr ewdriver .
Black plate (108,1) Luggage compartment cover í Installing the cover 1. Insert the left end of the retractor bar into the notch. 2. Squeeze the spring ho lder on right end of the retractor b ar inward, then inser t it into the notch. 3. Slowly pull out the cover and insert it into the retainers.

WARNING Make sure the opening is clear befor e closing a window: Closing power windo ws are dangerous. A perso n's hands, head, or even neck could be caught by the window and resul t in serious injur y or even death.
Black plate (1 10,1) Manual opening/closi ng T o open a power window to the desired position, lightly hold down the switch. T o close the power window to the desired position, lightly pull up the switch .
Black plate (11 1,1) NOTE Pr essing the power window switch once when the window is fully closed will only open it about 3 cm (1 in) to allow convenient ventilation of the cabin.
Black plate (1 12,1) NOTE l Depending on driving conditions, a closing power window could stop and start opening when the window feels a shock that is similar to something blocking it.
