Black plate (17,1) q Seat W armer í The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Press the switch to turn the seat warmer on or off. When the switch is in the ON position, the indicator light will come on.
Black plate (18,1) CAUTION l The seat-bottom powe r adjustment is operated by motors. A void extended operation because excessive use can damage the motors. l T o prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the powe r adjustment when the engine is stopped.

Release the switch at the desired position. q Height Adjustment Front of seat bottom T o adjust the front height of the seat bottom, raise or low er the front of the slide lifter switch on the left side of the seat.
Black plate (20,1) q Lumbar Support Adjustment T o adjust the lumbar support, pull the lever forward. q Head Restraint W ARNING Always drive with the head restraint s installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted: Driving with the head restraint s adjusted too low or removed is dangerous.

Black plate (22,1) Height adjustmen t T o raise a head restraint, pull it up to the desired position. T o lower the head restraint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the top is even with the top of the passenger's ears, never the passenge r's neck.
Black plate (23,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibil ity of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belt s. All of the seat belt retr actors are desig ned to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (24,1) W ARNING Have your seat belts changed immedi ately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy , and the corresponding pretensioner (s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (25,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women shoul d always wear seat belts. Ask you r doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly , but never across the stomach area.
Black plate (26,1) Seat Belt (Except Center - Rear Position) NOTE When using the cen ter-rear seat belt, refer to “ Center-Rear Position Seat Belt ” (page 2-18). q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the tongue. 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoul der belt.
Black plate (27,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (28,1) Front Seat Belt Pr etensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these syst ems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (29,1) W ARNING Have your seat belt s changed immediately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy , and the corresponding preten sioner(s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (30,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner Systems W arning Light If the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system is working properly , the warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON po sition or after the engine is cranked.
Black plate (31,1) W ARNING Fastening the Center-Rea r Seat Belt with Only One Buckle: Fastening the center -rear seat belt with only one buckle is dangerous. If only one pair o f seat belt tongue and buckle, either tongue (A) and anchor buckle (B) or tongue (C) and anchor buckle (D), is fastened, the seat belt cannot provide full protection.
Black plate (32,1) q Unfastening the Lap Portion of the Seat Belt Insert a smal l object such as a key in the anchor buckle (B) slot. (B) (A) NOTE T o encourage rear seat passengers to wear their seat belts, we sugges t leaving the center-rear lap position of the belt fastened at all times.
Black plate (33,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.

Black plate (37,1) W ARNING Use the correct size child-restrain t system: For effective protection in vehicle accide nts and sudden stops, a c hild must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restrai nt system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injur ed or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (38,1) W ARNING Do not install a front-facing child-restrai nt system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the force of a deploy ing air bag could cause seri ous injury or death to the child.

Black plate (40,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statist ics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passen ger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clear ly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (41,1) 1. Secure the child-restraint system with the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt. See the manufacturer's instruct ions on the child-restraint system for belt routing instructions.

Black plate (47,1) LA TCH Child-Restraint Systems Y our Mazda is equipped with LA TCH lower anchors for atta chment of specially designed LA TCH child-res traint systems in the rear seat. Both anc hors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .
Black plate (48,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Outboard Seats) 1. Expand the area between the seat bottom and the seatback slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors.

Gases are produced to inflate the front air bags and after the infl ation, the front air bags quickly deflate.

Black plate (97,1) q Locking, Unlocking with Door - Lock Knob T o lock any door from the inside, push the door-lock knob. T o unlock, pull it out. This does not operate the other door locks. Unlock Lock T o lock any door with the door-lock knob from the outside, push the door-lock knob to the lock position and close the door .
Black plate (98,1) NOTE Holding the key in the unlocked position in the drive r's door lock for about a second unlocks all doors and the trunk lid. T o unlock only the drive r's door , insert the key into the driver's door lock and turn the key briefly to the unlock position and then immediatel y return it to the center position.
Black plate (99,1) T runk Lid W ARNING Never allow a person to ride in the trunk: Allowing a person to ride in the trunk is dangerous. In addition, the person in the trunk could be seriously injured or killed during sudden braking or a collision.
Black plate (100,1) q Opening and Closing the T runk Lid W ARNING Close the trunk lid, lock the rear seatbacks and do not allo w children to play inside the vehicle: Leaving the trunk lid open or leavi ng children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous.
Black plate (101,1) q T runk Security In some situations you may want to prevent the trunk from being unlocked when the doors are unlock ed with the key .
Black plate (102,1) q T runk Light The trunk light is on when the lid is open and off when it's closed. NOTE T o prevent the battery from being discharged, do not leave the trunk open for a long period when the engine is not running.
Black plate (103,1) W ARNING Close the trunk lid and do not allow children to play inside the vehicle: Leaving the trunk lid open or leavi ng children in the vehicle with the keys is dangerous. Children could open the trunk lid and climb inside resulting in possible injury or de ath from heat exposure.
Black plate (104,1) Power Windows The ignition switch must be in the ON position for the power windows to operate. W ARNING Make sure the opening is clear before closing a window: Closing power window s are dangerous. A person' s hands, head , or even neck could be cau ght by the window and result in serious injur y or even death.
Black plate (105,1) Manual opening/closi ng T o open the window to the desired position, lightly hold down the switch. T o close the window to the desired position, lightly pull up the switch.

Canceling the two-step down function T o cancel the two-step down funct ion for each passenger window , carry out the following procedu re using the master control switches.

Black plate (109,1) Auto-Opening Because nobody like s getting into a very hot car , we have introduced a way to get a head start on cooling it, even before you put your seat belt s on and insert yo ur key in the ignition.
Black plate (1 10,1) 2. T urn the key tow ard the front and hold it. After the doors and the trunk lid are unlocked, the windows fully op en automatically . Open T o stop this operation, turn the key to the center position, then turn it toward the front again.
