3 Wo r k A r e a 1. Keep y our work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite acci- dents. 2. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Pow e r tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
4 18. Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control. 19. Check f or misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the tool’ s operation.

6 7. Make sure cord is located so that it will not be stepped on, tripped over , or other- wise subjected to damage or stress. 8. An extension cor d should not be used unless absolutely necessary . Use of improper e xtension cord could result in a risk of fire and electric shock.
7 (1) Do not touch the terminals with any conductive material. (2) A void storing battery cartridg e in a container with other metal objects such as nails, coins, etc. (3) Do not expose battery cartridge to water or rain. A battery short can cause a large current flow , overheating, possible b urns and even a breakdown.

9 NO TE: • The batter y charger is f or charging Makita batter y car tridge. Ne ver use it f or other pur poses or f or other manuf acturer ’ s batteries. • When you charge a ne w batter y car tridge or a batter y car tridge which has not been used for a long period of time, it ma y not accept a full charge.
10 Selecting the cutting action This tool can be operated with an orbital or a straight line (up and down) cutting action. The orbital cutting action thrusts the blade f orward on the cutting strok e and greatly increases cutting speed.
11 CA UTION: • If the tool is operated continuously at lo w speeds for a long time, the motor will get o verloaded and heated up. • The speed adjusting dial can be turned only as far as 5 and back to 1. Do not f orce it past 5 or 1, or the speed adjusting function ma y no longer work .
12 2. Pull the blade installing le ver in the (2) direction until it stops with a little click. If y ou hav e difficulty pulling it out, tr y to do so while mo ving it back and f or th in the (3) direction. 3. Rotate the blade installing le ver in the (4) direction until the clamp protrudes 5 - 7 mm from the blade holder .
13 Remov al 1. Push the blade installing le ver in the (1) direction to release it. 2. Pull the blade installing le ver in the (2) direction until it stops with a little click. If y ou hav e difficulty pulling it out, tr y to do so while mo ving it back and f or th in the (3) direction.
14 Plastic base plate (optional accessory) Use the plastic base plate when cutting decorativ e veneers, plastics, etc. It protects sensitiv e surfaces from damage .
15 T o attach the vacuum head on the tool, inser t the hooks of the vacuum head into the hole in the base . The vacuum head can be installed on either left or right side of the base. Then connect a Makita vacuum cleaner to the v acuum head. OPERA TION CA UTION: • Alwa ys hold the base flush with the workpiece.
16 Bevel cutting CA UTION: • Alwa ys be sure that the tool is switched off and the batter y cartr idge is remov ed before tilting the base . With the base tilted, you can mak e bev el cuts at any angle between 0 ° and 45 ° (left or right).
17 B) Plunge cutting Y ou need not bore a star ting hole or make a lead-in cut if you carefully do as f ollows . (1) Tilt the tool up on the front edge of the base with the blade point positioned just abo ve the workpiece sur- f ace.
18 Removing c lamp 1. Push the blade installing le ver in the (1) direction to release it. 2. Pull the blade installing le ver in the (2) direction until it stops with a little click. If y ou hav e difficulty pulling it out, tr y to do so while mo ving it back and f or th in the (3) direction.
19 Installing clamp 1. Make sure that the b lade installing lev er has been rotated in the (4) direction until it stops. 2. Inser t the clamp into the blade holder while rotating it in the (6) direction one quar ter to one full turn so that its slot will fa ce forward.
20 Use a screwdriv er to remove the brush holder caps. T ake out the worn carbon br ushes , inser t the new ones and secure the brush holder caps. T o maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY , repairs.
