1 1 . 1 SOFTW ARE DESCRIPTION What is the RA-2400 Remote Access Soft ware? The RA-2400 Remote Access software is a communications prog ram designed to work with Linear’ s D VS Supervised Wireless Security Systems and other Linear products.

3 1 .3 PROG RAMMING OUTLINE Use the f ollowing programming outline to guide y ou through the steps required to set up the RA-2400 software and progr am a D VS-2400 Console. Many of the programming options a vailab le in the RA-2400 program can be left in their def ault settings, and do not need to be changed f or most installations.
4 1 .4 PROG RAM INST ALL A TION The RA-2400 Remote Access Program softw are is supplied on a CD- ROM. The installation program will create a directory on your hard disk drive. Be sure that you ha ve at least 10 megab ytes free on the hard disk f or the program and any Account Profi le fi les that you create.
5 1 .5 TESTING THE MODEM Bef ore you run the Remote Access Program, be sure that the computer is running correctly and that the modem is installed and working properly . T o T est the Modem: Windows Control P anel can be used to test the modem and determine what COM por t it is connected to .

7 2. 1 ST ARTING THE PROGRAM T o Run the P rogram: ✦ Press ST ART , point to PR OGRAMS, RA2400 and clic k on RA2400. 2.2 NEW WINDO W PURPOSE: T o select an Account Profi le template f or the type of unit being programmed. USER RESPONSE: ✦ Select D VS-2400/2408 (with the correct Console fi rmware v ersion number).
8 2.3 MENU BAR PURPOSE: T o provide access to each of the progr ams sub-menus. The sub-menus that can be accessed from this menu are: File NEW T o select an Account Profi le template for the type of unit being programmed. OPEN Loads a sav ed Account Profi le into the RA-2400 workspace.

12 3. 1 COM POR T PURPOSE: T o select which communications (COM) por t the modem is connected to . USER RESPONSE: ✦ Click on the COM por t number ( 1 , 2 , 3 , or 4 ) that the modem is connected to . ☞ NOTE: See the TESTING THE MODEM Section (1.5) of this manual f or deter mining the proper COM por t number .
13 3.3 CONNE C TION OPTIONS PURPOSE: T o choose how the modem will connect to the D VS-2400 Console. Remote Dialing dials a telephone number with the method chosen (tone or pulse) to connect with the Console ov er a standard telephone line.
14 3.4 MODEM INITIALIZA TION STRING PURPOSE: Used to choose whether the def ault or a custom initialization “string” is sent to confi gure the modem ( a “string” is a series of characters that are commands f or the modem ). Modem’ s use initialization strings to setup their speed, data type, and other options .

17 4.2 CUST OMER INF ORMA TION PURPOSE: F or enter ing customer inf or mation specifi c to the installation for the Account Profi le. USER RESPONSE: CUSTOMER ☞ NOTE: All fi elds are optional and do not ha ve to be fi lled in. This inf or mation is not sent to the Console.
18 4.3 CONSOLE ACCESS CODES PURPOSE: T o install a Master Access Code and up to 5 Restricted Access Codes, a Duress Code, and a P age Aler t Code. CODE DEFINITIONS: MASTER ACCESS CODE ✦ Allows ar ming and disarming the Console. Allows access to all progr amming options.
19 4.4 CONSOLE ARM/DISARM PURPOSE: T o select which modes any remote arm/disar m transmitters will s witch to . Also f or selection of fi ve arm/disar m options. USER RESPONSE: ARM/DISARM ✦ T OGGLE-ARM TO: Select either HOME or A W A Y to choose the mode that any remote arm/disar m transmitters will arm the Console to.
20 4.5 CONSOLE ENTR Y/EXIT PURPOSE: T o select dela y times and other options for the Console’ s exit and entry dela ys. USER RESPONSE: ENTRY/EXIT ✦ ENTR Y DELA Y : T o change the entr y delay , enter a dela y time from 20 to 255 seconds. ✦ EXIT DELA Y : T o change the exit dela y , enter a delay time from 20 to 255 seconds.
21 4.6 CONSOLE AL ARMS PURPOSE: F or setting the wa y the burglar y , emergency and fi re sirens w ork. Also sets the options f or the home-automation output dur ing and after alarms. USER RESPONSE: ALARMS ✦ BURGLAR Y ALARM: Select SILENT to disable the b urglar y siren or select SIREN FOR SET TIME for a timed siren after activ ation.
22 4. 7 CONSOLE HOME-AUT OMA TION OUTPUT PURPOSE: F or setting the wa y the home-automation output functions. USER RESPONSE: HOME AUTOMA TION-OUTPUT ✦ WHEN TRIGGERED: Select T OGGLES to cause the home-automation output to s witch between on & off with each activation.
23 4.8 CONSOLE AUDIO PURPOSE: T o select how the V oice Board operates . NO TE: The Model VB-2 (for 2-way audio) or VB-3 V oice Board must be installed to use these options . Selects the audio mode f or monitoring with the Console’ s microphone and communicating through the Console’ s speak er to the subscriber.
24 4.9 SENSORS PURPOSE: T o displa y and edit sensors installed in the Console’ s memor y . Up to 24 sensors ma y be installed, each with its own type, restore and supervision options.

USER RESPONSE: ZONE CODES ✦ Enter a new two-digit alarm code for an y sensor/zone that needs to be changed.
31 4. 1 3.2 4 B Y 2 POINT-T O-POINT TROUBLE CODES PURPOSE: T o view and edit the 24 sensor/z one trouble repor t codes. ☞ NOTE: 4 by 2 P oint-to-P oint Repor ting must be selected (see Section 4.13) f or these codes to repor t. USER RESPONSE: ZONE CODES ✦ Enter a new two-digit troub le code for an y sensor/zone that needs to be changed.
32 4. 1 3.3 4 B Y 2 POINT-T O-POINT ARMING (CLOSING) CODES PURPOSE: T o view and edit the f orce arming repor t code. This repor t is sent when f orce ar m is enabled (Section 4.12) and the system is armed with any open sensors that hav e been bypassed.
33 4. 1 3.4 4 B Y 2 POINT-T O-POINT DISARMING (OPENING) CODES PURPOSE: T o view and edit the duress report code. This repor t is sent when the system is armed or disar med using the duress access code. ☞ NOTE: With either reporting method, the duress code is the same.
34 4. 1 3.5 4 B Y 2 CONSOLE AL ARM CODES PURPOSE: T o view and edit the fi ve Console report codes. These codes are sent f or Console ev ents such as the Console emergency button, fi re b utton, Console low battery and batter y restore. The cancel report occurs when the Console is disarmed dur ing an alar m.

36 4. 1 4 ADEMCO CONT AC T-ID REPORT CODES The Ademco Contact-ID repor ting codes are pre-defi ned and cannot be changed. These repor ting codes are provided as ref erence. The Ademco Contact-ID e xtended repor t codes indicate the sensor number that triggered the ev ent.

38 5. 1 ACCESSING THE SEND/RE CEIVE WINDOW PURPOSE: F or enter ing data required to connect to a D VS-2400 Console and to control the connection. Monitors the status of the communication between the RA-2400 and the D VS-2400. USER RESPONSE: ✦ An Account Profi le fi le m ust be open before the Send/Receiv e window can be accessed.
39 5.2 CHOOSING AN ACCOUNT PROFILE PURPOSE: F or selecting which Account Profi le open in the workspace will be used when connecting to a Console. The Account Profi le selected automatically fi lls in the Console’ s Phone Number and P assword Fields using inf or mation already entered in the profi le (see Section 2.
40 5.3 CONNE C TING T O A CONSOLE PURPOSE: Causes the RA-2400 to connect to the D VS-2400 Console. The RA-2400 will tr y to connect to the Console either locally or remotely , depending on the Communications Setup (see Section 3.3). ☞ NOTE: The Communications Setup can be revie wed b y pressing the COMM SETUP .

44 5.6 CHANGING THE CONSOLE’S MODE PURPOSE: T o remotely view and change the oper ating mode of the Console. USER RESPONSE: ARMING MODE ✦ View the current operating mode of the Console in the ARMING MODE displa y area.
45 5. 7 DISCONNE C TING FROM THE CONSOLE PURPOSE: T o end the programming session and disconnect the modem from the Console. USER RESPONSE: DISCONNECTING ✦ When fi nished communicating with the Console, clic k on the DISCONNECT button. The Communications Status area will show Not Connected when the Console has been disconnected.
46 5.8 CLOSING RA-2400 PURPOSE: T o sav e the active Account Profi le(s) and quit the RA-2400 program. USER RESPONSE: ✦ F rom the FILE menu, choose EXIT .
