Before using this product, it is essential to read this ENTIRE operation manual and ALL installation instructions. It describes equipment setup and instructs members on how to use it correctly and safely .
This Operation Manual describes the functions of the following product: Club Series T readmill (CST) See "Specifications" in this manual for product specific features. Statement of Purpose: The treadmill is an exercise machine that enables users to walk or run, in place, on a moving surface.
1 G ETTING S T ARTED 1.1 I MPORT ANT S AFETY I NSTRUCTIONS Read all instructions before using the treadmill. • DANGER: T o reduce the risk of electrical shock, always unplug this Life Fitness product before cleaning or attempting any maintenance activity .
• When it is necessary to immobilize the treadmill, set the display to read SELECT WORKOUT . (Press the STOP key twice if not already there.) Then hold down the SPEED DOWN key and press the P AUSE key . The treadmill now displays IMMOBILIZED”. In this state, the treadmill cannot be operated.

1.2 S ETUP Read the Operation Manual before setting up the Life Fitness T readmill. Place the treadmill where it will be used before beginning the setup procedure. E LECTRICAL P OWER R EQUIREMENTS The Life Fitness CST Treadmill requires a non-dedicated electrical line according to the configurations listed in the chart below .
H OW TO P OSITION AND S T ABILIZE THE L IFE F ITNESS T READMILL Following all safety instructions in Section 1.1 and move the treadmill to the location in which it will be used. See Section 7 for the dimensions of the product footprint (assembled dimensions).
S ERVICE A CCESS P ORT The two interchangeable type RJ45 networking ports (A) are located on the back of the display console. These network ports, located behind the display console rear access door , allow for console software updates.

2.2 C ONSOLE O VERLA Y AND A CTIVITY Z ONE D ESCRIPTIONS A. WORKOUT PROFILE WINDOW : During a workout, interval hills and valleys appear in this window as rows of light stacked in columns. The number of lit rows within a column corresponds to an incline percentage.
14 N. HEADPHONE JACK: Headphones must be plugged into the treadmill to access the sound for the iPod. The jack is not a user-replaceable feature. Contact Life Fitness Customer Support Services for more information. O. iPOD HOLDER: Users can attach an iPod via a 30-pin connector .

3 H EART R AT E Z ONE T RAINING ® 3.1 W HY H EART R AT E Z ONE T RAINING ® E XERCISE ? Research shows that maintaining a specific heart rate while exercising is the optimal way to monitor the intensity of a workout and to achieve maximum results. That is the idea behind the Life Fitness Heart Rate Zone Training® approach to exercise.
3.2 H EART R AT E M ONITORING T HE L IFEPULSE TM S YSTEM T o use the treadmill’s Lifepulse TM system to check the heart rate during a workout, grasp the stainless steel sensors on the Ergo TM front handlebar . T wo sensors are located on each of the handlebars.
4 T HE W ORKOUTS 4.1 W ORKOUT O VERVIEWS The following workouts are pre-programmed for the Life Fitness T readmill. QUICK ST ART: Press one of the Quick Start keys prior to a workout to have the treadmill belt begin moving at a preset value. The preset values are 2 mph (3 kph), 4 mph (6 kph), and 6 mph (9 kph).
PERSONAL TRAINER workouts are accessed through the PERSONAL TRAINER key . These include the pre-pro- grammed DIST ANCE GOAL, CALORIES GOAL, TIME IN ZONE GOAL, and SPORT TRAINING, workouts, as well as up to six CUSTOM WORKOUTS , which may be programmed by the user .
4.2 U SING THE W ORKOUTS Select a workout using the WORKOUT SELECTION or GO SYSTEM QUICK ST ART KEYS. The chart below lists the steps for setting up each workout. Use the NUMERIC keypad to enter the values when prompted by the MESSAGE CENTER, or use TIME, INCLINE, or SPEED ARROW keys to scroll to desired values displayed on the MESSAGE CENTER.
4.3 W ORKOUT D ESCRIPTIONS QUICK ST ART is the fastest way to begin exercising. After the QUICK ST ART key is pressed, a MANUAL workout begins, at a very slow speed with the incline level set to zero by default. Change the speed using the PRESET SPEED keys on the Activity Zone to jump to a preset speed.
H ILL The Life Fitness-patented HILL workout offers a variety of configurations for interval training. Intervals are periods of intense cardiovascular exercise separated by regular periods of lower-intensity exercise.
P ERSONAL T RAINER • C USTOM W ORKOUTS The treadmill console stores up to six custom workouts. For information on creating these workouts, see the topic titled Programming Custom Workouts in Section 5. T o use custom workouts, press the PERSONAL TRAINER key repeatedly until the MESSAGE CENTER displays “PER- SONAL TRAINER WORKOUTS”.
Z ONE T RAINING + Zone T raining workouts target specific ranges, or zones, for maintaining a heart rate to achieve maximum exercise results. H EART R AT E H ILL TM This program combines the standard HILL workout profile with the concept of Heart Rate Zone T raining.
H EART R AT E I NTERV AL TM This program also combines the standard HILL workout profile with the concept of Heart Rate Zone T raining. The default target heart rate is calculated as 80% of the theoretical maximum (HRmax), but the user can adjust the target rate during the workout setup.
E XTREME H EART R AT E TM This intense, varied workout is designed to help more experienced users to break through fitness improvement plateaus. The workout alternates between two target heart rates* as quickly as possible. The ef fect is similar to that of running sprints.
F IT T EST The treadmill Fit T est program is another exclusive feature of this versatile treadmill. The Fit T est workout estimates car- diovascular fitness and can be used to monitor improvements in endurance every four to six weeks.
If you make an error when entering any Fit T est data, you can correct it by pressing CLEAR, inputting the correct informa- tion, and pressing ENTER. It is important for you to take the Fit T est under similar circumstances each time.
F ITNESS T ESTS The Life Fitness T readmill features fitness tests based upon specific predefined protocols. • ARMY PFT : 2.0 miles The U.S. Army Physical Fitness T est is a physical performance test used to assess muscular endurance and car- diorespiratory fitness.
4.4 M AXIMIZING W ORKOUTS ON A L IFE F ITNESS T READMILL S ELECTING A L EVEL The steps for setting up a HILL, RANDOM, SPORT TRAINING 5K, and SPORT TRAINING 10K workout include select- ing a level. The word “level” refers to a range of incline percentages.
C OOL D OWN Life Fitness' unique Cool Down Protocol automatically customizes every cool down based on each user's workout performance. Workout performance factors such as speed, incline, duration and heart rate determine the duration and intensity of the cool down.
5 U SER M ENU (O PTIONAL S ETTINGS ) 5.1 E NTERING AND U SING THE S ER VICE M ENU Managers and other authorized personnel can use the Service Menu to access diagnostics, information, maintenance, and configuration submenus. Enter this menu system by pressing and holding down the P AUSE key and pressing the CLEAR key twice.
5.2 M ANAGER ’ S C ONFIGURA TION (O PTIONAL S ETTINGS ) 33 Setting Default V alue Description Language English This option allow for the setting of a new default language for user and service messages. 35 P ROGRAMMING C USTOM W ORKOUTS After entering the Manager ’s Configuration (Optional Settings), use the TIME arrow keys to scroll through the list of config- uration options, or allow the MESSAGE CENTER to scroll automatically through the options.
S A VING A S T ART M ESSAGE T o save the ST ART MESSAGE, press ENTER. “MESSAGE SA VED” will appear in the message center confirming the message has been saved. T o exit the start message setup without saving, press the clear key twice. “MESSAGE NOT SA VED” will appear in the MESSAGE CENTER confirming the message has not been saved.
