You can’t start an application program or it quits unexpectedly. Or, when you try to open a program, you see a message that not enough memory is available. One of t he fo llo wi n g is prob abl y the c ause: m Th e Mac i nt osh ra n out o f memory .

You experience problems using a document from a DOS computer. If y ou c an ’ t op en a DO S do cument u sing a M acintosh pr ogram, try t h e f ollowi ng: m Op en the do cument fr om within the program b y choos ing Op en in the pro gram ’ s File menu .

P rob lems usi ng CD -R OM d i scs You insert a CD-ROM disc, but its icon doesn’t appear on the Macintosh desktop. m Mak e s ure that t h e disc l ab e l is f acing up and the di sc is centered in the tra y .

P rob lems usi ng ISO 96 60 o r H ig h S ier r a di scs You cannot access files on a CD-ROM disc that uses the ISO 9660 or High Sierra format. m Disc s i n the ISO 9660 a nd High S ier ra disc f or mats ha v e vers ion numbers attac hed to f ile names .
While playing an audio track on a CD-ROM disc that combines audio tracks and data, you double-click the disc icon and the audio track stops playing. m Y ou can ’ t open data file s on a CD-R OM di sc a nd li sten to audi o tracks on that di sc at the same t ime .

4 Remove the three screws from the computer’s back panel with a screwdriver. 5W ith your fingertips, find the two latches on the underside of the computer’s case. 6P ull gently on the latches. Locate the two latches on the underside of the computer’s case with your fingertips.
7S wing the panel up and slip it out. Set the pa nel as id e . 8 Touch any flat area on the exposed metal plate to discharge static electricity. Al w a y s do this bef ore y ou t ouch any parts , or install a n y components , insi de th e c omputer .
9U nplug the power cord from your computer. Y ou can unplu g the po wer c ord no w that y ou dischar ged stat ic elec tric ity i n the pr e v ious step . 10 Gently pull down on the wire handle and swing it out to unlock it from its storage position. Then grasp the handle and pull the logic board out of the computer.
11 Pull the logic board all the way out and set it on a clean, flat, stable surface. Rest the end of the board on a thick magazine or a thin book to protect the components underneath.

3I f your PCI card has ports for connecting equipment, remove the plastic access cover from the vertical plate. On the inside o f the computer , squee ze t og ether the tw o pl ast ic tabs ho lding the acce ss c ov er i n p l ace , then pull the acce ss c ov er of f from t he outsi de .
4 Remove the metal retainer from the inside of the computer. 5 Remove the PCI card adapter from the main logic board. 6 Remove the PCI card from its static-proof bag. Hol d the car d by its ed ge s t o a v oi d touc hi n g a n y connect ors on the c ard.
7C onnect the PCI card and the PCI card adapter. Pl ace the adapter on a ma g azi n e on a f i r m s urf ace , then pres s the car d fi rml y in to the adapter .
9 Insert the adapter into the PCI slot on the main logic board. Make sure the metal fence on the PCI card engages the hook on the vertical plate and that any connectors on the front of the card protrude through the port opening in the vertical plate. Don ’ t f orce the adapter .
10 Insert the retainer clamp back into the hole and hold it there while you screw it into place. 11 If you have a communication card to install, go to the next section. If you are finished installing items in your computer, proceed to the section “Closing the Computer,” later in this appendix.
