Using the All-In-One Center Opening the All-In-One Center Use the All-In-One Center software to scan, copy, and fax documents. To open the All-In -One Cent er, use one of these me thods: Method 1 Method 2 From the desktop, double-click the Imaging Studio icon, and then click the Scan or Copy button.

Using the I Want To menu The “I Want To” menu con tains a variety of task wizard s (p rinting a photo, an envelo pe, a banner, a poster, or printin g on both sides of the pape r) to help you se lect the correct pri nt settings for a project.

Loading paper and original documents Loading paper 1 Make sure: • You use paper designed for inkjet printers. • If you are using photo, glossy, or heavyweight matte paper , you load it with the glossy or printable side facing you. (If you are not sure which side is the p rintable side, see the instructions th at came with the paper.
Load up to Make sure 10 iron-on tr ansfe rs • You follow the loadi ng in str uct ions that came with th e iron-on transfers. • The print side of the transfers faces you. • The transfers are loaded against the right side of the paper support. • The paper gui de rests against the left ed ge of the transfers.
Load up to Make sure 25 sheets of labels • The print side of the labe ls faces you. • The top of the labe ls fee d s into the print er first. • The adhesive o n the labels do es not extend to within 1 mm o f the edge of the lab el. • You use full label sheets.
Load up to Make sure 20 sheets of bann er paper • You remove all the pap er from the pape r supp ort before loading the banner paper. • You tear off only the number of p ages needed to print the ban ner. • You place the required stack of banner paper on th e top cover.
Printing Changing the paper type If you print using specialty paper, such a s photo paper, ca rds, envelopes, transpar en cies , or iron-on t ran sfers, you need to change the pa per type setting fro m the Print dialog box. 1 Load paper. 2 With a documen t open, click File Print .
4 Click OK. 5 From the Web Too lbar, select Text Only . Printing photos or images from a Web page 1 Load paper. For best results, use ph oto or heavyweight matte paper, with the glossy or printable side facing you. (If you are not sure which side is the p rintable side, see the instructions that came wi th the paper.
7 Select the Paper Setup tab. 8 Select Paper . 9 From the Paper Size list, select a card size. 10 Click OK . 11 Click OK or Print . Notes: • To avoid paper ja ms, do not force the card s into the printe r. • To prevent smudging, remove e ach card as it exits, and le t it dry before stacking.
Printing collated copies If you print multiple cop ies of a document, you can choo se to print each copy as a set (co llated) or to print th e copies as groups of pages (not collated). Collated Not collated 1 Load paper. 2 With a documen t open, click File Print .
7 Click OK . 8 Click OK or Print . Printing the last page first (reverse page order) 1 Load paper. 2 With a documen t open, click File Print . 3 Click Properties , Preferences , Op tions , or Setup . 4 From the Quality/Copies tab, select Print Last Page First .
Working with photos Retrieving and managing photos Inserting a memory card 1 Insert a memory card. • Insert the card with the brand name label facing to the left.

Copying Making a copy 1 Load paper. 2 Load an original document fa cedown on the scanner glass. 3 If necessary, press repeatedly until light is on. 4 Press repeatedly until Color ap pears on the display. 5 Press or to select Color Copy or Black Copy .
Customizing copy settings You can make one or more sele ctio ns before copying a do cume n t or photo. Specifying the size of paper loaded 1 If necessary, press repeatedly until th e light is on. 2 Press repeatedly until Paper Size appears on the display.
Repeating an image on one page using the computer When copying, you can prin t the same image multiple times on one sheet of p aper. This option is h elpful in creating labels, decals, flyers, handouts, and so on. 1 Load paper. 2 Load an original document fa cedown on the scanner glass.
Scanning Scanning an item 1 Make sure the printer is co nnected to a computer, a nd both the printer a nd the computer are o n. 2 Load an original document fa cedown on the scanner glass. 3 If necessary, press repeatedly until th e light is on. 4 Press .

Scanning text for editing Use the Optical Ch aracter Recogn ition (OCR) softwar e feature to turn scanned images into text you can ed it with a word-processing application.
Scanning clear images from magazines or newspapers Descreening helps to remove wavy patterns from imag es scan ned from magazin es or newspapers. 1 Make sure the printer is co nnected to a computer, a nd both the printer a nd the computer are o n. 2 Load an original document fa cedown on the scanner glass.
Faxing Sending a fax using the software 1 Make sure: • The printer is connected to a computer that is equipp ed with a fa x modem. • The computer is con nected to a working phone line. • Both the printer and the computer are turned on. 2 Load an original document fa cedown on the scanner glass.
4 Click Receiv e a fax or view settings /history . Note: You can rece ive fa xe s only when the fax sof tware is open. 5 Double-click the fax i n the status window to view it. 6 Click the printer icon to print the fax. Note: If you want to print faxe s as they arrive, select Print Incoming Faxes .
Maintaining the printer Changing a print cartridge Removing a used print cartridge 1 Make sure the printer is on. 2 Lift the scanner uni t. The print cartridge carrier mo ves and stops at the loading po sition, unless the printer is busy. 3 Press down on the leve r to raise the cartridge lid .
2 Press down on the cartridge lever to raise the cartridge lid. 3 Insert the cartridge. 4 Close the lid. 5 Lift the scanner unit, press the scanner support back unt il it slides into the slot, an d close the scanner unit. 1 2 3 CAUTION: When closing the scanner unit, make sure to keep your hands out from underneath the scanner unit.
Achieving better print quality Improving print quality If you are not sa tisfied with the print quality of a document, m ake sure you: • Use the appropriate paper for the document. Use Le xmar k Premium Pho to Paper if you are printi ng photos or other high-quality images.
3 Click the Maintain/Troub leshoot button. 4 Click Maintenance . 5 Click Clean to fix horizontal streaks . 6 Click Print . A page prints, forcing ink through the prin t cartridge nozzles to clean the m. 7 Print the document again to verify that the print quality has improv ed.
10 Repeat step 9 up to two more times. 11 If print quality is stil l not satisf actory, replace the print cartridge. Preserving the print cartridge • Keep a new cartridg e in its packa ging until you are ready to install it. • Do not remove a cartridge from the printer except to repla ce, clean, or store it in a n airtig ht containe r.
Refilling a print cartridge The warranty does not cover repair of failures or damage caused by a refilled cartridge. Lexmark does not recommend use of a refilled cartridge. Refilling a cartridge can affect print quality and may cause damage to the printer.

Check that your computer meets the minimum system requi rements listed on the box. 1 Check the USB cable for any ob vious damage. 2 Firmly plug the rectan gu lar end of the USB cable into the USB port of the compu ter. The USB port is marked with the USB symbol.
Remove and then l oad paper. Check the ink level, and install a new p rint cartridge if necessary. 1 Remove the print cartridge. 2 Make sure the sticker and tape have been removed. 3 Reinsert the print cartridge. Make sure the printer i s set as the default printer and is not on hold or paused.

Poor text and graphic quality Examples of poor text an d graphic quality include: • Blank pages • Dark pri nt • Faded print • Incorrect colors • Light and dark band s in print • Skewed lines • Smudges • Streaks • White lines in print Check the ink level, and install a new p rint cartridge if necessary.
Poor quality at th e edges of the page Unless you are using th e borderless feature, u se these minimum print ma rgin settings: • Left and r ight margins : – 6.35 mm (0.25 i n.) for letter size pap er – 3.37 mm (0.133 in.) for all paper si zes except letter • Top margin: 1.

Cannot print a fax or received fax has poor print quality Ask that the sender: • Check that the qu ality of th e o rig inal document is satisfactory. • Resend the fax. There ma y have been a problem wi th the quality of the telephone line connection.
3 Press to turn t he printe r back on. Paper or specialty media misfeeds If paper or specia lty media misfeeds or skews, or multiple sheets feed or st ick together, try the following solutions.
To keep a bann er print job from jamm ing: • Use only the number o f sheets needed for the banner. • Select the following settings to enable the printer to feed pa per continuously without jamming: 1 With a documen t open, click File Print . 2 Click Properties , Preferences , Op tions , or Setup .
Error messages Alignment problem... 1 Remove the print cartridge. 2 Make sure the sticker and tape have been removed. 3 Reinsert the print cartridge. 4 Press to print an alignmen t page. 5 Load the alignme nt page facedown on the scanner glass. 6 Press again to align the cartridge.
Cartridge missing The cartridge is missing or is not installed properly. Fo r more information, see “Ins talling a print cartridge” on page 52. Change paper or photo size setting... There are one or mo re ph otos larger tha n the paper size you selected.
Computer not connected Make sure your computer i s connected and turned on. 1 Check the USB cable for any ob vious damage. 2 Firmly plug the rectan gu lar end of the USB cable into the USB port of the compu ter. The USB port is marked with the USB symbol.
