1 Introduction The APC Sm art-UPS® RT is a h igh-perf ormance, unint erruptible pow er supply (UPS) that prov ides protection for electron ic equipment from utilit y power blackouts, brownouts , sags and surges.

4 B ASIC C ONNE CTORS serial com The serial connector is to be u sed for interf acing with APC Po w erChute software and terminal emulation software. Use only cables appro ved by APC. Any other interface cable will be incompatible with the UPS connector.
5 C ONNECTING E QUIPME NT AND P OWER TO TH E UPS 1. Connect equipmen t to the UPS (cables not included for XLJ/XLT/XLTW models ). 2. Avoid using ext ension cords. • 3000 VA XLJ/XLT/ XLI/XLTW and 5000 VA XLJ/XLT /XLTW models : Using a power cord, plug the UPS into a two- pole, thr ee-wire, grounded receptacle only .
6 O PERA TION Load S MART -U PS RT F RONT D ISPL AY Battery Charge Indicator Description Online The Online LED illuminat es when the UPS is drawing utility power and perf orming double con version to supply power to con nected equipment. On Battery The UPS is supplying battery po w er to the connected equ ipment.
7 Feature Function Cold Start When there is no utility po w er and the UPS is off, press and hold the button to power up th e UPS and connected equipment.

10 C ONNECTING THE EPO (E MERGENCY P OWER O FF ) O PTI ON The output pow er can be disabled in an emergen cy b y clos ing a switch connected to the EPO. Adhere to National and local electrical codes wh en wiring the EPO. The EPO switch is intern ally po we red by the UPS for use with n on-po w ered switch circuit breakers.
11 T ERMI NAL M OD E TO C ONFIGURE UPS P ARAMETE RS 3000 VA m odels: Terminal Mode is a menu driven interface that enables configuration of the UPS by users not wi shing to use P o werChute ® soft ware o r an o ptio nal Net work Ma nage ment Card. Connect the serial cable to th e serial co m con nector on the back of the UPS.

13 • Press 2 and ENTE R to change the Battery Settings. • Type in the number of external battery packs (four batt ery modules per pack ), and press E NTE R. (Num ber of packs: 1 = 1 S URT192XLBP, 2 = 2 SURT192XL BP etc.) • Press 3 and ENTER to accept the changes.
14 M AI N T EN AN C E AN D T RA NSPOR T Replacing the Battery Module This UPS has an easy to replace, h ot-swappable battery module. Replacement is a safe procedure, isolated from electrical hazards. You may leave the UPS and connected equipm ent on during the procedure.
