1 Introduction This Uninterru ptible Power Supply (UPS) is desig ned to preven t blackouts, brow n outs, sag s and su rges from reachin g your com puter and other valuable electronic equipm ent.
2 Inst allation Install i ng your UPS r equir es five st e ps: 1. Position and install the UPS in the rack. This step includes installing th e rails into the rack. 2. Install an d connect the batteries . 3. Connect equ ipmen t to the UPS. 4. Pow er u p the UPS.
3 Install the Mounting Ra ils in the Ra ck 1. Determin e wh ere in the rack y ou w ill m ount the UPS. The SU5000 requires a s pace of 5U. Som e racks h ave tick m arks to indicate the U-s paces. 2. Usin g th e mou ntin g tem plat e provided (part n um ber 990-0195), identify and mark the correct moun ting holes for th e UPS mounting br a ckets.
4 Load the UPS i nto the Rack an d attach the Mou nting B rackets Caution: The 5000 VA m ode ls (without batteries installe d) require two peopl e to lift due to i ts weight. Attach the Rail Cleat Attach a m ountin g cleat to each side of the UPS using tw o (2) flat head s crews per cleat.
5 230 Vac Units (fo r Hard Wire) Caution: The electrical connection m ust be m ade by an authorized electrician according to national and local regulations. Verify that t he supply line co ntains a 25 Amp circuit breaker BEFORE hardwiring the UPS. Ensure that the batteries are not ins talled in the UPS until the hardwiring is complete.
6 3. Install the Bat teries Note: All UPSs ship with th e batteries dis connected. In addition, 5000 V A units h ave the batteries sh ipped ou tside the UPS case so you m ust install the batteries before connecting them . If you need to ship the UPS you m ust disconnect the batteries prior to shipm ent in order to com ply with U.

8 Operating Instructions Switch On — Switch Off With the U PS pl ugge d in, p ress and r eleas e the large uppe r on/test b utton to suppl y po wer to the lo ads. T he lo ads ar e imm ediately pow ered wh ile the UPS beeps and perf orms a s elf-tes t.
9 Load Bar Gra ph 85% 67% 50% 33% 17% The 5-LED display on the lef t of th e front panel repres ents the pow er draw n f rom th e UPS as a percentage of total capacity. For exam ple, if three L EDs are lit, the load is drawing between 50% and 67% of the UPS’s capacity .
10 Replacing the Batter y This UPS has an easy to replace hot-s w appable battery. Battery replacemen t is a safe procedu re, isolated from electrical hazards.
11 Sto r a ge Storage Conditions Store the UPS covered and upright in a cool, dry location, w ith its battery fully charged. Before storing, charge th e UPS for at least tw o hours. R emove any acces sories in the acces sory s lot and disconn ect any cables connected to th e comput er interface port to avo id unnecessarily draining the batter y.
